Chapter 121: The first floor
After leaving Nadia back home, still recovering and gasping after what they had done, Luke left the house and decided to wander around for a bit.
He had a fun time. For three hours straight, he had spent his time buried in that delicious twat of the woman who had his attention ever since he first saw her.
He didn’t know he could crave for someone like this other than Monica. But once he got a taste of her, he couldn’t stop.
Before leaving, he told Nadia that they would at least need to go at it for a week to see the results and, despite the hesitation, clearly from the fear of getting hooked, she nodded.
He could tell that the woman was scared of getting addicted to the kind of sex he offered.
Luke smirked just at the thought of how embarrassed she was remembering how she begged to be fucked.
[Host, you have gained increment in Gamma.]
Luke grinned, nice. He knew that having sex gained him gamma. After all, every alive being possessed Gamma and when something he does causes them to release that energy gets absorbed by him.
So yes, a good plus point.
"Alright now, let’s prepare." He stopped beneath a tree and sat down. He didn’t return home despite wanting to. He knew the comfort of his mate would make him lazy. Staying here, active and alert, felt like the better choice for what was coming.
Dungeon.
He wouldn’t be able to use the Shop feature once inside unless he purchased a resting zone. So it made sense to buy what he needed now and stay prepared.
At the moment, he had three hundred gamma points in reserve.
He was just about to call up the shopping tab when the system suddenly spoke,
[Host, it’s better to first assess the battlefield before purchasing anything.]
Ah, so the terrain wouldn’t be a simple open hall. Interesting... and a little risky. But that only made his grin widen.
Still, one question lingered in his mind, ’How long will the default resting zone last?’ He could already tell how crucial that space would be.
The first resting zone would be free, but any additional ones would cost a heavy amount of gamma points.
So he had to be careful.
[The first resting zone will remain for half an hour. However, the host may begin the raid before that.]
Luke didn’t see himself doing that. He was patient, someone who used his resources wisely.
He glanced toward his house, still visible from where he sat.
Taking a deep breath, he muttered, ’Alright... take me there.’
In the next instant, his vision shifted.
He nearly stumbled to the side, dizziness crashing into him as if he had been dragged across a vast distance while sitting still.
"Agh..." he groaned, silently grateful for Nadia to help him digest all the food earlier through their combined workout.
His vision slowly cleared. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, falling directly over him.
He raised a hand to shield his eyes and finally took in his surroundings.
A forest.
He had landed in the middle of nowhere.
He looked around. Nothing felt familiar. Only towering trees and long stretches of grass. The buzz of insects filled the air, mixed with the distant chirping of birds.
The ground beneath his feet was damp, the grass moist. The trees here were massive, nearly twice the height of what he was used to.
Slowly, he pushed himself up and asked, "What is the range of the resting zone?"
The system didn’t respond. Instead, a faint line began to stretch out before him. Luke followed it with his gaze.
Ten feet to the left. Then to the right. Then it rose ten feet upward.
He was enclosed in a square boundary.
A cage.
Crossing his arms, he glanced at the system notification.
[Host, remember, once you begin the challenge, you cannot return to the real world unless you have completed the challenge or have died.]
Haah.
He hadn’t expected something this convenient. Just imagine facing a deadly threat and escaping simply because he was tired.
But... in a way, this was better.
Now he would have no choice but to push beyond his limits.
Looking around once more, he made his decision.
First, four hydration solutions for 2G. Then bandages and ointments for 4G. In this terrain, cuts and bruises were inevitable. After that, he bought special boots, light and suited for wet ground. Cost: 5G.
Next came protein and energy bars for 5G.
Then, the potions.
"Damn... you really don’t hold back with this."
[Healing Potions (Low): 50G]
He had no choice but to buy one.
If he ended up too injured to fight and didn’t have time to rest, this would mean the difference between survival and death.
He purchased a single healing potion and stopped himself from buying anything more.
In total, he had spent around seventy gamma points.
Not bad.
He still had,
[Gamma Points: 250]
So yes, if things went wrong, he could still afford a resting zone.
But he hoped it wouldn’t come to that.
He checked the timer. There were still more than twenty minutes left.
Stretching his arms, he asked the system, "What battle-friendly equipment do I have in my inventory?"
[Inventory:
Samurai Vest: 1
Magma Tooth: 1
Steel Claws: 1
Camouflaging Cloak: 1]
Humming softly, Kyle pulled out the samurai vest and slipped it on. Instantly, he could feel the added protection settle over his body.
Next, his hand moved to the knife resting at his waist.
Magma Tooth would work well for a surprise strike, but his main weapon would be the Steel Claws. He had already gotten used to wielding them.
After a moment of thought, he asked, "Based on my performance, will I earn more points, or will the reward stay the same no matter how long I take?"
[The reward will remain the same regardless of the time taken, host. However, each level has a time limit, so be mindful of that. The system may also assign quests during each level for additional rewards. Furthermore, you may find random treasures scattered throughout the area that can be brought back to the real world.]
The mention of treasures had been on his mind ever since he first heard about it.
He was curious about what he might gain from them. Of course, clearing the level would always come first, but if he had the time... why not?
He stretched his arms and legs, then ran through a few knife techniques to warm up.
This challenge would be different from the others. He wouldn’t be able to stop whenever he wanted.
Until the level was cleared, he had to keep moving.
Glancing at the timer, he saw that barely five minutes remained.
Just then, the system notified him,
[Floor 1: Echo of the Wild]
[Level 1:
1. Hunt ten Level One beasts
2. Hunt a Level Two beast]
[Time Limit: 3 hrs]
[Best of luck, host.]
He took in the information with a quiet nod before gripping his knife and adjusting to the new boots.
He had already hydrated himself well and carried no unnecessary weight.
He was ready to move.
