Netori Harem: New life as a hunter and gatherer

Chapter 111: Paranoid for nothing

Returning to the room, Luke felt slightly nervous. Laila wasn’t particularly silent when they were going at it, and the walls of the house weren’t too thick.

Should he have taken her out before fucking her senseless? But wouldn’t that have been boring? He wanted Caleb to have a part of this night always engraved deep into his consciousness.

But now, he was nervous that Monica might have heard them and must be upset.

However, when he reached the bed and gently called out to her, "Huh?" he found her already asleep.

Her lips were slightly parted, her breathing soft and even.

He scratched his head, wondering if this was for the best.

Shaking the thought away, he decided to sleep beside her as well. He was exhausted after a full day of hunting and the heavy "work" he had just done with his dear elder sister.

He quietly lay down next to Monica, then slipped an arm around her soft, huggable waist and pulled her closer.

She hummed in contentment and snuggled into him, her face burying against his chest.

Luke let out a quiet sigh. This really was the most comfortable way to sleep.

He was just about to close his eyes when the system suddenly notified him,

[The dungeon has been set up, host. You can access the feature anytime.]

Luke was excited, yes, but right now, all he wanted was sleep.

’See you tomorrow, system.’

....

Somewhere outside the village perimeter, a warrior insisted, "I’m telling you, he was too specific to be lying about something like this, Graham."

"Lance, you’re being unreasonable. Yes, I know Luke is a good hunter, and he has made a name for himself with his recent deeds, but in the end, he is still just a brat."

Lance clicked his tongue. "Let’s assume Luke was mistaken, but even then, I sensed something off about this place. Especially this side of the perimeter."

He scanned the surroundings before adding, "I can still feel something watching us."

Graham let out an exasperated sigh. "Didn’t we already search the area just because you felt something was suspicious? Come on, Lance. What could possibly be so deadly that it can hide from our sight?"

If it truly was something so deadly that it could push someone as experienced and strong as Lance to the edge, then by now, at least someone other than Luke should have sensed its presence.

But so far, no warrior had reported anything unusual lurking around the village, and no one had gone missing either.

Still, just to reassure Lance, Graham had accompanied him around the entire perimeter, even staying back after his shift had ended.

Yet all they had come across were a few rabbits and some antlers.

"Lance, listen to me." Graham gripped his shoulder, forcing him to meet his gaze. "Tomorrow, some important people are arriving at our village. If you keep talking like this, there’s a high chance the others will panic. And if word reaches the chief that something dangerous is lurking around, even when there isn’t anything, and we fail to deal with it..."

Graham’s fingers slid loosely around Lance’s throat as his voice turned cold.

"He will kill you."

Lance swallowed deeply, his Adam’s apple bobbing. With a hesitant nod, he said, "I understand..let’s go back."

Without any further ado, the duo began to walk back to the village...completely unaware of those red eyes looking at them from a few feet away.

...

Luke stretched his arms, feeling something pop in his back.

"Mmgh... ah!" A loud yawn escaped him as he slowly came down from the stretch, his head spinning for a brief moment. Nothing beat an early morning stretch. No, wait... something did. Early morning cuddles. But unfortunately for him,

"She’s gone again."

The space beside him was empty and cold, a clear sign she had left long ago. Well, it wasn’t her fault. He always woke up late.

Shaking his head, he got up and glanced down at himself.

He was still wearing the same clothes from last night, and they reeked. Damn, that woman was nasty. Peeing all over her mate...

Shaking his head, he decided to change after taking a bath, but the rear side of the house would already be busy at this hour.

He had no intention of putting his naked body on display.

Then... what should he do?

Hmm, maybe ask the neighbors?

Yes, that would be for the best.

Leaving his room, he walked toward the dining hall and found Ginna cleaning the table.

"Ah, Luke. You’re awake." Ginna smiled as she saw him, still a little dazed, rubbing his head.

"Yeah, morning. Where is Mother?"

"She must be cooking. Want me to call her?"

Luke shook his head. "Nah, just tell her I’m going over to Dart’s place to take a bath."

Ginna hummed. "Because of the construction, it’s quite dusty back there."

Luke nodded. Speaking of that, he needed to tell Monica to stop bathing in that area. It was too exposed to passersby.

Sure, men in this world might not care much about such things, but he still couldn’t stand the thought of others seeing her like that.

He was about to leave when suddenly, Ginna asked, "Umm...Luke. Were you the one who healed Caleb last night?"

Luke turned, "He was healed?"

Ginna nodded, "Yes. I checked on him this morning and saw Laila tending to him. His hand looked better and Laila said it was you who healed him."

He snickered. Despite his half hearted attention, that bastard actually recovered, huh?

’I wonder how much he remembers of the last night.’ Well, even if he actually remembers anything about last night, that how his mate was getting wrecked by another man, he still wouldn’t do anything.

That bastard was so selfish that he might as well sell Laila for a few Toras in the future.

Nothing to do with him anymore. He had his fun and now, he doesn’t have anything to do with those two anymore.

....

Soon, he left the house and headed toward the one next door.

As he walked, he noticed the streets were unusually empty. It was probably because of the special guests arriving today.

’Should I go check on them... or not?’

He wanted to see Roxanne, but after that day, when she left his side to follow her mate, a faint displeasure lingered within him.

Still, he understood her position. The chief... that bastard seemed like the kind of man who would go to extreme lengths over what he considered his.

Shaking his head, Luke pushed the thought aside. He would deal with it later.

He stepped into Dart’s yard and knocked on the door.

After a long pause, it finally opened, revealing a familiar face.

"Hey, Dart," Luke greeted.

For some reason, the man froze, clearly caught off guard by his presence. What? Did he come at the wrong time?

"Hey..." Dart forced a smile. "Come in."

Luke blinked in mild surprise but nodded and stepped inside.

There, Nadia stood in the middle of the hall, her expression equally startled.

Dart cleared his throat. "Is there something you need?"

Luke scratched the back of his head. "Umm... can I use your bath? Mine’s under construction, so..."

Dart nodded, then turned to his mate. "Lead him there, Nadia... I’m leaving for work now."

Nadia’s heart grew heavy as she caught that faint gleam in his eyes, but she said nothing as he walked out—

Dhak

—leaving the two of them alone.
