Chapter 211 – The Hunger Grows And The Doctor Strikes

U.A. Infirmary

*MUAH!*

"Huh? Where am I?" John said groggily. His vision was blurry, and his cheek felt damp for some reason.

"Ah! You're finally awake. Don't worry, you're safe, and it looks like you'll make a full recovery." A familiar voice said.

He blinked a few times, his vision slowly starting to focus. He was in a hospital room that was somewhat familiar, with a little old grandma beside him. "Recovery Girl? How...Why am I here?"

"Hah, well, you were ill, and I am the best healer in Japan. When a crazy dragon lady showed up at my door and practically kidnapped me in the middle of the night, I didn't ask too many questions. Imagine my surprise to find you lying here in my infirmary." She said, then started to chuckle. "You have been unconscious and running a high fever for five days. It only broke a few hours ago."

"Five days? Dragon lady? Where is Rumi?" He said, somewhat confused. His memory was full of holes from Saturday night. Was there a dragon lady? Or two of them? He wasn't sure.

"Mirko? Out chasing the person who poisoned you. Her, Mt Lady, Thirteen, and Mei didn't leave your side for the first day. Then, a revolving door of heroes, men in suits, and students started coming in and out of my infirmary when school opened on Monday, so I had to kick everyone out. Your sister was rather imposing, but I chased her off with a broom when she kept trying to use her Quirk to heal you to no avail."

He chuckled at the image of this tiny woman swinging a broom at his massive sister. "I would have paid good money to see that."

"I can pull up the security feed later if you want. I might start using it for first-year orientations on respecting the infirmary's rules. Enough gab for now, how are you feeling?"

John sat up in the bed and started flexing his joints a bit. He was stiff, but was only in a little pain. He noticed he was in a hospital gown, his suit nowhere to be seen. He looked to the side of the room, spotting his sword and his leathers hanging in an open locker in the corner. The fog in his brain was lifting somewhat, though his memories were still vague; as far as he could tell, he was fine. More than fine. Like, there was a new energy in his body.

"What is this?" He mumbled. Alongside his mana, he could feel another energy inside of him now. He tried to focus on it and found he could move it around, though the vast majority of it was in his guts. It kind of reminded him of when he cycled his mana, but it didn't seem to have any elements, just raw energy.

"What is what, dearie?" She asked, poking his belly with some weird tool. Her visor displayed what appeared to be an ultrasound image of his insides.

"I... have a weird energy inside of me. I can kind of control it, but I have no idea what it is."

"Hmm... I'll have to run some tests, but that sounds like you might have awakened a Quirk. Strange at your age, but it isn't completely unprecedented. There have been a couple of cases where Quirkless individuals have awakened a Quirk later in life, but I've never heard of someone awakening a second Quirk. You might be a medical marvel, John."

When she said that, his mind snapped back to the balcony and the strange fruit that woman had fed him.

That... that had to be one of the Takeyama fruits. What did Sakura say about them? That they grant long life and a powerful Quirk? She didn't mention that it would nearly kill me in the process.

He flexed the energy again, wondering what in the hell it was for. It somewhat reminded him of his healing magic, but he would need time to explore it more. He would check his status window when he was alone; it might be able to shed some light on the situation.

"Sure. Let's run some tests, but is my phone somewhere nearby? I'd like to let a few people know that I'm awake."

"I didn't see it, but that is fine. I already shot off a message to Mr. Principal; he will pass it on to everyone."

"That works. Thanks for everything, Recovery Girl."

"You're welcome, dearie! Now, stay still, this might sting a bit." She said, holding up a massive syringe, its needle glinting menacingly in the light coming through the windows.

"Argh! What in the hell is that thing?"

"Just a little prick. Don't worry, I'll kiss your boo boo better. Now, come here!"

The rest of the day went by quickly for John. Recovery Girl did take a blood sample with a much more reasonable needle, once she was done laughing at his terrified face from that massive syringe. She had him do a series of movements, and once she was confident he wouldn't pass out, she cleared him to go home on sick leave for the rest of the week.

Nezu was the first person to arrive. The principal was relieved that John had woken up but expressed concerns about his health. Next to show up was Rumi and Yu, the latter rushing into the room pushing a wheelchair, the former strolling behind her, munching on a carrot.

"Ha! Told ya he wouldn't need that. He is too stubborn to let something like a little fever make him weak." Rumi said with an air of confidence, though she ruined that a moment later when she placed a hand on his shoulder and added: "You're okay, right?"

"Yeah, I'm good. Sorry to worry you two." He replied, then pulled them both in for a hug to prove he was good.

With the green light from Recovery Girl, they returned to the house where both women immediately tossed him on the pillows in the barely used living room. They lay down beside him, pinning him in place.

"Okay, spill it," Rumi said, running her hand through his chest hair. Yu wasn't quite as daring and just rested her hand on his jacket.

"Spill what?"

"Your new Quirk, of course! What can you do?" She said, sounding excited.

"Rumi! We talked about this! He just recovered from eating one of those fruits. Let him have some time to relax and recover before you interrogate him about his new ability." Yu said, glaring at Rumi. She then turned to John, smiling up at him. "Do you want anything to drink? A request for dinner? I'm cooking tonight, so it will be whatever you feel like you can eat."

"I'm a little thirsty, but what I want right now is to stay right here and relax for a bit." He said, wrapping his arms around both of them and leaning back against the pile of pillows. "And I would love it if you two could tell me what in the heck happened to me, and what has been going on all week. As for my new Quirk... I'm still figuring that out."

Yu explained what happened at the mansion, how the thief had broken into the vault and stolen a few valuables, along with about half of the remaining Takeyama fruits. Thankfully, the rest of the fruits, other than the one she fed him, were still in the bag she tossed to John. After he passed out, the four of them arrived on the scene, followed shortly by Hinata. She was furious about the attack, but after seeing the condition John was in, she immediately flew him to U.A., then picked up Recovery Girl.

Twinkle and Constantine were unable to catch the wily thief; the woman was somehow able to hide from them. Yu and Rumi joined them in their investigation, but it proved fruitless, as neither could actually help Constantine search for her. Wherever she went, she was lying low for the time being.

Outside of that night, villain attacks had all but halted in Japan. Even the Hero Killer hadn't been seen since he attacked Ingenium, making Rumi wonder if he had given up his reign of terror in Hosu and relocated to another city, or was just lying low. The name Ingenium tickled something in the back of his mind, but he couldn't place it right then.

Mei and Momo had been setting up their workshop in the agency's basement, while the contractors were busy with the rest of the building. John was surprised that the top story was being converted into several apartments, but Yu just shrugged at that. "It's normal for the heroes to live at their agency, at least until it grows large enough to have an on-duty team. With just the two of us being the only full-time pro heroes, and you as a part-time sidekick, it makes sense for Mei and I move upstairs. It will save us on commuting times, not to mention paying rent as well."

John just nodded at that. It made sense, mainly since Rumi's house was way too small to move the pair of them in. Even if the three of them slept in one room, there wasn't anywhere near enough room for more dressers, let alone a larger bed. The pad he was using for a mattress might have been a twin-sized bed, and there was barely enough room for him and Rumi in it. He couldn't imagine how uncomfortable it would be to add Yu to the pile. He paused at that thought.

When did I start considering Yu as family?

He didn't have an answer. He pulled her in tighter to his side, his hand on her lower back, her breasts pushing into his side. It felt... right. Just as much as it did to have Rumi pulled in tight to his other side. His hand had been idly playing with her tail while they talked, the cotton ball having a nub of flesh underneath that she seemed to like him stroking.

This felt right. Not like the canon trying to pull him in some direction right, but like this is what he wanted right. He wallowed in this feeling for a bit, nodding occasionally to show he was still listening to their stories.

"..and that is pretty much everything that happened while you were out. Oh, and Mother said she would stop by tomorrow to check in on you." Yu finished, now lying her head on his chest like Rumi was.

"Sounds good. Now, this Quirk... is weird. It's like I have a well of energy in my guts that I can move around my body, but I can't tell what it does."

"A well of energy? Can you move it outside your body? Or is it stuck inside of you?" Yu asked, moving her hand down to his belly like she was trying to feel the energy through his clothes.

"I haven't tried." He said. He lifted his hand off her back and brought it over his chest. He tried pushing the energy through his body, down his arm, to his hand. It was difficult, but he managed to pack as much power into his hand as he could. Try as he might, it didn't seem to want to exit his body. "Well, whatever it is, it seems to want to stay inside my body."

"Do you notice anything different?"

"Not really. Maybe... my hand feels a little stronger? It's hard to tell." He said, opening and closing his hand. When he squeezed his fist tightly, the knuckles popped, but that didn't really mean much.

"Here, squeeze my fingers," Rumi said, placing her hand inside his.

With a shrug, he squeezed her hand, causing her to stiffen up. He released her immediately.

"Yeah... your grip is tighter." She said, flexing her fingers, then putting them back on his chest.

He nodded and released the energy, letting it return to his guts. "Interesting. I'll try it again the next time I train. But right now, I think I need a nap."

"Do you want to go to bed?"

"No... I'm right where I want to be." He said, closing his eye, a content smile on his face as he drifted off to sleep.

[KI]

The power to control the flow of life energy within your body. When cycled through the body, it provides a percent increase to your base physical stats. Gateway to Senjitsu, Touki, and many other forms of Ki control.

Increase your power level by increasing your base Wisdom and Stamina stat points.

Current Power Level - Wis 52 + Sta 69 = 121/4 = PL 30 = 30% increase to base stats

Caution - Ki usage increases appetites.

[Mana Cycling]

The ability to augment your physical stats with mana. When mana is cycled through the body, it provides a small multiplier to your base stats. Adding different elements will either increase the multiplier on a single stat or add an element to a strike. Calculated after Ki is added to base stats.

Current Known Magics

Natural - 1.5x to all base physical stats

Wind - 2x to Speed

Water - 2x to Reflex

Earth - 2x to Strength

Fire - Ignites targets struck

Lightning - Stuns targets struck

Shadow - Decays targets struck

Holy - Heals the user's body as damage is received

John whistled at the descriptors in his stat window. He never claimed to be a genius, but between these two new skills, he could see a path where he could indeed become powerful. While he was still less than half of most of Rumi's stats when he fully boosted himself, with time, training, and a bit of Substance X, he could see it. He could become as powerful as a superhero.

Add the anger boost from his sword, and he was already beyond her, though that was only when he was casting spells or wielding the weapon itself. Not to mention it required him to be angry. That was the farthest thing from what he was feeling right now.

He pulled both Rumi and Yu in tightly to his side, both of the women still sound asleep beside him. They passed out when he did, exhausted from the past few days worrying about him despite both Hinata and Recovery Girl assuring them that he would be fine. Anan apparently showed up at the house while they were asleep, as she was lying between his legs, resting her head on his belly.

I have no idea what I did to deserve this... but I'm done fighting it. If all three of them want to share their love with me, I will accept it. I will love them back with all my heart.

He closed his eye again and started to drift back asleep. He had no idea what the logistics of their relationship were going to look like in the end, but right now, he didn't care. He was loved, and he had love to give, and that was what mattered most to him.
