Chapter 204 – An Unexpected Dinner And A Show

Jaku City

"Rumi. What are you doing?" John asked, confused as to why she was carrying a handsaw. In fact, she was wearing blue coveralls, a tool belt with a hammer, and a thick carpenter's pencil behind one ear. He was just getting home after training with Midoriya for a couple of hours and planned to relax next to the Koi pond for a few minutes before making supper.

"Cutting a hole in the fence to our new hero agency building." She replied, then gave him a quick kiss. "The sale went through today, so now we need to start getting it set up."

"And... you plan on doing construction outside... in the dark?" He said, gesturing to the twilight sky above them. The compound didn't have much in the way of outdoor lighting or electricity outside the kitchen, bathroom, and the dojo, really.

"Mei already placed some lighting there. Her, Yu, and a couple of friends are working on the inside right now. We have contractors scheduled to come in next week, but the more we can do ourselves, the more money we can save." She replied with an oddly mischievous smile forming on her face.

"Well, I can help after I have dinner. Have you eaten yet?"

"No... we have been at this for a few hours now."

"Okay, how many people am I cooking for then?"

"Six, plus you... But make sure you make extra, please. We're famished."

"Easy enough."

Rumi thanked him, gave him another kiss, and then bounced off to the far side of the dojo happily. John just shook his head, amused by the changes happening with her. A couple of weeks ago, she said she preferred to work alone, and now here she was, happily starting her own agency with another hero.

Apparently, the building they bought is one of those adjacent to the dojo, too. He knew Mei said her grandma greased some wheels, but those are multistory commercial buildings; Those aren't cheap. They had also been a little secretive about the new building for the last week. Any time he brought it up, they said things were progressing well, and he could see it soon.

Whatever, it's not like they asked me to chip in. If she wants it to be a surprise, so be it.

He started working on a large stir-fry, using the giant wok hanging on the kitchen wall. He already had a bunch of food prepped, so it was just a matter of mixing most of it together, heating it up, and tossing in some seasonings.

I really should take some cooking lessons. There is so much food here in Japan that I have no clue about. Heck, there are dozens of different types of rice alone. Not to mention sushi, tempura, okonomiyaki, and a crap load of other things I've seen but have not had a chance to try yet.

He let his mind wander on food for a bit, not wanting to think about anything consequential right now. There would be time enough to worry about the Takeyama's ball, the oddly acting Nezu, and the fact that he was now mentoring a teenage superman, later. He chuckled at the last one, thinking of the spar they had. Nothing was quite as motivating to dodge out of the way as avoiding strikes that would probably kill him if they landed. He had to cycle water magic the whole time, but it was worth it. Fighting against someone who was stronger than he was but a poorer fighter, let him learn things about himself.

That kid will be a monster someday. Maybe I should see if Rumi would be willing to take him on during the hero agency placements. If any hero could get him to move properly, it would be her.

He happily cooked away, enjoying the moment of simplicity. About twenty minutes later, he heard some voices and then people coming inside the house.

"Dinner will be out in a moment! Mei, come grab the plates and utensils, please!" He shouted, not taking his eyes off the pans.

"Got it!" She replied. "Oh! I made an upgrade for you! I'll bring it to your office tomorrow!" She added, then darted out of the kitchen before he could reply.

Taking the food off the heat, he loaded serving trays and carried them out to the dining room, where he proceeded to nearly drop them.

Momo and Mei were sitting to one side of the table, Yu on the other. She was chatting with the last two people he expected to see. Anan and...

"Howdy, Bro!" A tall, muscular blonde woman said, smiling up at him. A very familiar one to this body's memories.

"Twinkle? What in the world are you doing in Japan?" John replied to his sister, Cathleen Bate, better known as America's number one hero, Star and Stripe.

How? Why?

"Surprise!" Rumi said behind him, taking the trays from his hands. She had a shit-eating grin on her face, amused at his stunned expression.

"I could ask the same of you! Imagine my surprise when I heard my brother quit his job and moved to Japan to work at U.A. and became a hero himself?" She said, standing up and walking over to him. "Give your sister a hug, you big lummox!"

"And... how did you hear that? We haven't talked in years." Stiffly returning the hug of one of the few women who was just as tall as he was and even more muscular.

Crap, what do I do with this?

"Hinata Takeyama. Imagine my shock when I was at a conference in Paris, and my mild-mannered brother came up in conversation about a recent villain attack in Japan. I just had to see it for myself." She said, squeezing him hard enough to make him think he was about to burst like a blueberry. "I see you are finally putting on some more muscle. It looks good on you!"

"Argh! And you are still a marble statue. Damn it, Twinkle, was iron not enough? You decided to eat tungsten to get so hard?" He said, cycling his healing magic to keep his spin intact. "So instead of a phone call, you flew all the way to Japan just to see me?"

"Well, not just you. I was invited to the Takeyamas' for an event this weekend. I just came a few days early to see you! It was a happy coincidence that I met your girlfriends when I stopped by your hero agency's address." She said, gesturing to the table of women.

"Umm. What?" John said, confused even more.

Rumi, sure. Yu, maybe. Anan... god, I forgot she is here too!

Before he could reply, she started bellowing in laughter. "God, you should see the look on your face right now. I'm just teasing you, bro. It's just funny, since you seemed to have as much interest in women as I did in men for the longest time. Slim to none. Now, you're surrounded by them."

"Well, it's good to see you. Now, sit down and eat up. I made plenty of food." John said, trying to change the topic. His mind was still reeling from the surprise appearance of his sister.

And Anan...

"Good Evening, Anan. Sorry for ignoring you, this was just a bit overwhelming." John said, taking a seat on a cushion. Yu and Rumi flanked him, their shoulders nearly touching, the table far too small for seven people to be crammed around it. Yu served him before filling her own plate, and he patted her thigh in thanks. She looked like she wanted to say something, but didn't interrupt him.

"It's fine. Today seems to be a day full of surprises." She replied evenly. "Like learning that Rumi had found someone. Someone who checks almost all her crazy standards. I'm a little jealous."

"Yeah, he is pretty amazing. Still, he needs more training, but we will get there." Rumi said, leaning on his arm and smiling happily. "I thought you said you had met someone? What happened to him?"

"Despite saving my life several times, he broke it off before we had a chance for something more serious. Turns out he had met another woman and didn't want to two-time her."

"His loss. You're a wonderful person. I'm sure you will find someone. Don't you think so, John- John? What's wrong?" Rumi asked, realizing the blood had drained from John's face.

"Rumi... she is talking about John." Yu sighed, apparently already having put two and two together. "You missed our earlier conversation."

"What?" Rumi exclaimed.

"BHAHAHA! What happened to you, bro? When did you become some sort of Casanova? A woman on each arm, and another who looks like she wishes you had a third one."

Fuck!

"Apparently, two weeks ago. I didn't exactly plan on any of this; it just happened." John said with a sigh. "And Yu. Not everyone here knows about me."

"Actually, everyone at this table knows about the Twilight Knight. We just didn't get a chance to tell you two yet." Yu said. "Anan had figured it out already. Cathleen guessed it was you earlier when overhearing Anan's account of her rescues, and that's when I discovered Momo knew it was you since the afternoon at U.A. after the U.S.J. attack."

John looked over at Momo. She just shrugged. "There are not many nearly 2 metre tall men with an eye patch walking around Japan. Your accent is a dead giveaway as well. A few students were speculating about it, though only Tsuya was certain it was you. She got a good look inside your helmet's visor and saw the eye patch and your steel blue eye."

"And you didn't turn me in?"

"Why would I? You saved our lives, then made sure we were all okay after the attack. You have done nothing but worry about our well-being since you arrived at the U.S.J. instead of barking at us about breaking some stupid, vaguely written rules. You have a very different view of being a hero, yet you retain the core tenet of protecting those who cannot protect themselves. Your words resonated with many of us that day, and I can assure you, we are asking many more questions in our classes because of it.

It doesn't take a genius to know that there is something fundamentally wrong with our system. If we are going to put our lives on the line and become the next generation of heroes, we want answers; answers to why we are being handicapped by the system we are there to protect. Why villains' lives seem to be more important than ours or the people we are protecting." Momo said at length. She realized everyone was looking at her then, and started to blush a bit. "That is what we are thinking."

"Are you sure you're a teenager?" Rumi asked.

"Yep. I turn sixteen in a couple of months."

"Wait. I'm older than you?" Mei said.

The table devolved into a babble of different conversations after that, the Twilight Knight seemingly forgotten. Rumi talked with Momo and Mei about what she thought the issues were, having similar thoughts herself. Yu and Cathleen were talking about whether she would wear her hero suit or a dress to the ball that weekend. John sat there quietly and mechanically picked at his food, Anan never taking her gaze off of him.

Hesitantly, he activated Scouter to see what she was thinking, then immediately facepalmed.

{If this is what fate has decided, so be it. I want in too!}

"Are you sure you want to do this?" John asked Rumi, holding her mouth guard.

"Damn right! I might never get this chance again!" She said, jumping up and down to warm up her muscles.

Across the dojo from her was Twinkle, stretching out her massive muscles. They were both impressive specimens, but his sister was a foot taller than Rumi and built like All Might when his power was activated. They both had their hero costumes on, looking more ready to go on a patrol than a strength vs speed spar.

(Snagged these fan arts from a Google search)

"Then give her hell, darlin'," John said, pushing the mouthguard between her lips, then took his place over with the others.

Somehow, dinner didn't turn into some odd explosion, just cordial conversation. Anan had joined in with Yu's conversation about the ball, apparently being invited to attend as well by the Takeyamas, though she didn't explain why. John could only shake his head and was doubly sure that something was going to happen at this ball now. Before he could interject his thoughts, Rumi challenged Twinkle to a duel, which his sister accepted with a laugh.

Twinkle did grab him by the arm after dinner and said they would need to talk before she returned to America, but it needed to be in private. He tried to run Scouter on her, but it was rebuffed almost the same as when he tried to read Jaina's mind. That surprised him, but he chalked it up to however she had New Order bestow superpowers on her.

"So the rules are simple. A straight-up fight, no using additional New Orders to disable your opponent. Tap out or knock out, best two out of three." John said, raising his voice. "Are you ready? Fight!"

"Let's dance, partner!" "Ahahaha! Luna Rush!" The two said, then charged towards each other.

The resulting impact literally shook the dojo, causing the dangling light fixtures to shake. The two women sped up even more, kicking and punching each other, testing defences and feeling the other out. John was no expert, but from a technical standpoint, it appeared that Rumi was winning. She was getting hits in that against almost any other opponent, they would have been catapulted out of the dojo.

Twinkle was made of sterner stuff than that, and laughed off most of the attacks. Not to say she wasn't being hurt, she was bleeding in several spots, but she never let up on Rumi. In a feat of monstrous strength and a bit of luck, she caught one of Rumi's kicks and slammed her into the floor. Rumi rolled forward, then spun on her head, whipped her body towards Twinkle, and snapped her head back with several unexpected kicks before flipping backwards on her feet.

This battle of titans continued: John's tavern brawler sister, who had started learning Krav Maga nearly thirty years ago, versus Rumi, with fifteen years of an MMA style mixed with Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu. John felt a little lost again, unsure how he would be able to reach Rumi's level with just his Mana cycling technique.

"Should... we stop them?" Anan asked, "I mean, I came by to help her remodel her place and catch up. Not watch her get repeatedly slammed into the ground."

"I've only known her for a few weeks, but have you ever known her to back down from a challenge? This is literally one of her dreams right now, and if Twinkle wants to humour her, I won't stop it from happening."

"Why do you call her Twinkle? Isn't her hero nickname Stars or something like that?"

"Oh," John said, digging back into the memories given to him. "We used to play superheroes when we were kids, and her hero name was Twinkle. It just kind of stuck... we were closer then, but well, time and other things separated us. Something seems off about her even being here."

"Really? She seems like she just wanted to reconnect with you. It was definitely unexpected when she showed up earlier, and she asked us not to warn you that she was here so she could surprise you too." Yu said, chipping into the conversation.

"Nickname aside, we are not close. I went to school to become a teacher, and she started training to be a hero. From there, we had different opinions on how she should be a hero, as her Quirk is capable of so much more than just making her strong. Instead of taking my advice, she decided to be a peacock instead. It was effective, obviously, but she could have done so much more if she didn't want to be in the spotlight. After our parents were murdered by someone who wanted revenge on her, and nearly killed our other sister and me, we both threw ourselves into our jobs and drifted even further apart."

"Is that when you received your scars, John?" Momo asked.

"Yeah. Anyway, something seems odd here that she chose now to come visit and act as if nothing happened." He said. Maybe he was being a bit cynical, but something had to be going on here. Twinkle was a walking weapon of mass destruction if she wanted to be. She didn't just casually enter foreign countries without anyone knowing.

*BAM!*

Rumi bounced along the floor of the Dojo, landing at John's feet. He looked down at her bloody and beaten body and shook his head. "You alive?" He asked, kneeling beside her.

"Again!" She said, giving him a thumbs up.

He looked over at Cathleen, the powerful hero still standing but not in the best-looking shape either. She just smiled and gave him a thumbs-up, too. "She is fun, bro. I approve!"

Like I need your approval... damn it, John, it's been over fifteen years and just memories. Let it go.

"Heal!" He chanted, bringing Rumi back to life. She shivered a little bit, John belatedly remembering this stupid orgasm thing that the spell was doing to women now. Rumi, a sadistic smile growing on her face, grabbed John and gave him a quick kiss before somehow flipping to her feet.

"Round Two!" Rumi hollered and charged at his sister.

"What? She gets a heal, and I don't?" Cathleen said, blocking Rumi's assault.

"Unless you're dying, Twinkle, I am NOT using that part of my Quirk on my sister."

"Giving your girlfriend the advantage, I see. No matter, I'll still- Ack!" She said, then caught Rumi’s foot in the gut, which sent her flying backwards.

"Keep talking, and I'll knock the stripes right off that suit." Rumi cackled, then leaped after Cathleen.

"What's it do other than heal?" Yu asked. She was not fully conscious when she was hit by it before.

"I'm going back to work for a bit before I head home. Tell Rumi I'll stop by in the morning... and TK... you're my knight too." Anan said, interrupting before John could fumble an explanation. She touched his shoulder for a moment, her amber eyes looking like they wanted to say something more, before leaving the dojo.

What do I even say to her?

"So what does it do?" Yu asked again.

John looked at the two teens, then leaned in and whispered the answer into Yu's ear. She started to blush.

"You're joking?"

"Nope. I have no idea why it does it, though it seems that any adult woman I've healed in the last while triggers it. I do have another heal that works differently, that I haven't tested to see if it does the same, but it takes a lot out of me to use it."

"Mom, what are you two whispering about?" Mei asked.

"Nothing. Nothing at all. Go join Anan if you want, or watch this brawl. Either way, we are heading out in an hour. You two have school tomorrow."

"Mei! I almost forgot. We need to finish those drones for John." Momo said.

"Right! Can't leave a customer waiting!" Mei stated, then grabbed Momo by the shoulders, and they flew off somewhere with her rocket boots.

John and Yu turned back to the fight, watching as Rumi clamped her legs around Cathleen's neck, trying to force the larger woman to tap out.

"I'm going to go help Anan." She said after a minute of watching them flail around, Cathleen was unable to dislodge Rumi, but Rumi was unable to make a perfect lock. "She came by to help us work today, but Rumi is stuck on this dream fight of hers."

"Okay, darlin'. Give me the tour tomorrow. I'll make sure these two don't accidentally kill each other."

"Sure... and thank you again, John. Mei hasn't been this happy in a long time. She barely ever hung out with another student, and now I can't seem to separate those two. I'm thinking of offering Momo a position here at the agency, at least for the week. It will let them hang out more and join us on patrol."

"Isn't Mei going to one of those businesses she was trying for from the sports festival?"

"She was, but now she says she is close to a breakthrough in something, and doesn't want to lose the patent to some other business. Instead, the building's basement will be her workshop. She will shadow with us, but focus on her tech."

"All right. Well, if that is what she wants. God, it doesn't seem like we are getting a moment's peace around here." He said, still trying to wrap his head around everything that was going on.

"Nope. Not yet, anyway. I'm just hoping things cool off a bit after the ball."

"Let's hope."

Yu touched his arm as well, then left the dojo, leaving him to babysit the two meatheads. They were trading blows again, Rumi somehow rolling with Cathleen's and not taking the full blast of their connections. Still, it was clear that Cathleen was strong enough to be able to-

*Bam!*

"Ha! Luna Fall!" Rumi shouted victoriously, knocking Twinkle over with a well-timed calf kick and followed with her signature heel drop. The concrete floor shattered below Twinkle, her body being driven into the ground from the amount of pressure Rumi managed to connect with.

"Ha! You got me." Twinkle said as she climbed out of the hole, smiling just as crazily as Rumi was. "New Order. Full Heal!" She said, snapping her fingers. Her body reverted to how she started the fight. "Now, again!"

"Ahhaha! Let's go!" Rumi shouted and charged back into the fight.

John just sighed, then moved up to the speed bag. If these two were going to keep at this, he might as well get some training in.
