Chapter 175 – Escape From U.S.J.

John knelt beside the fallen teacher, in awe that he was still conscious despite having all four of his limbs shattered in multiple spots.

"Did... did you stop them?" Aizawa asked through clenched teeth, looking up at John with bloodshot eyes.

"Yeah, their boss is dead. Hold on, let me fix you up." He replied, then placed a hand on the man's head. "Middle Heal!"

His bones started to knit back together as his most powerful healing spell flooded into the teacher's body, bringing him back from the edge to nearly being completely healed. John became a little dizzy, nearly expending the rest of his mana on that single spell, the consecutive battles having all but drained his mana. He pulled out his Substance X tin and swallowed a ball, hoping its description of helping him recover his mana faster would work.

Aizawa pushed himself up and stared at John, a look of confusion on his now clear eyes. "How? Recovery Girl can't even heal someone that quickly?"

"I'm a man of many talents. Now, how are you feeling? I don't know if there are more students missing, as that gassy guy apparently teleported them somewhere, and there are still a lot of bad guys to wrangle."

"I've been better, but I seem to be whole again at least." The man replied, then looked around. He reached for a nearby piece of metal, then sighed. "My goggles have seen better days."

"Well, if you can joke, you can get up. Now, be the good teacher and either guard these guys or go find the rest of the students." John replied, offering the man a hand up. He took it and stood up, not wavering despite his remaining injuries.

Tough guy.

Just then, more students started to arrive at the outskirts of where the battle had happened, many of them looking a little rough but alive. Aizawa raised his voice and began issuing orders to his students, getting them to help corral the remaining villains. After a little investigation, he confirmed that all of the students were accounted for, one of his students apparently knew exactly who had been teleported.

John patted him on the back, then started to make his way to the stairs, intent on getting out of there before he started to question him. He didn't get far before a hand clasped his shoulder.

"Hold on. Where do you think you're going?" Aizawa asked, his tone friendly but firm.

"You seem to have things handled here. I'm going to check to make sure the rest of the students, All Might, and Thirteen didn't get attacked by more of these guys. Both of them were in no condition to fight, and the rest were just students. That gassy guy that can teleport escaped, so you never know what might be happening elsewhere." John said, improvising. He activated his scouter skill and listened to the man's thoughts.

The man stared at him intently for a moment, then released him. "Fine, but you report to U.A. and the Heroes Public Safety Commission later. You need to explain to them why you decided to use lethal force against Shigaraki."

<I don't believe a word he is saying, but I'm in no condition to fight right against someone who could take those two guys down. I'll look away, this time.>

Good instincts on this one, because it's not bloody likely that I will do either of those. Not as the Twilight Knight anyway.

"That won't be hard; they nearly killed you and a bunch of students. I stopped the threat." He replied, then continued out of the dome. He could have sworn he felt eyes on his back until he closed the door behind him.

Once he was sure the coast was clear, he stuffed his sword into his luggage again. After a moment of deliberation, he kept the armour on and proceeded down the stairs as fast as he could go without tumbling down them. Once he reached the bottom, he pulled out the Harley and expanded it. The big bike roared to life, and he kicked it into gear, accelerating out to the road at a slightly unsafe velocity. He opened the throttle up once he was on the road, heading back out the way the cabbie brought him instead of the other direction that he assumed U.A. was located at.

When he got out of the forest and back into the city, he slowed down to a reasonable speed and let out a deep sigh. He had no idea what was happening in this world, but fighting two battles against villains, then being treated almost like one himself, was not what he expected at all.

Now, to find this damn school and then a place where I can park nearby without a bunch of prying eyes.

The Harley rumbled down the road, its rider deep in thought.

U.A. High School

"I'm sorry, the Principal is indisposed for the rest of the day. I've already rebooked your orientation for eight AM tomorrow. Does that work for you?" The secretary said to John when he finally arrived at U.A. It took him about an hour to get there, find an alley to park and store his bike, and swap back to just his leathers.

"I understand. Can I bother you to point me to a nearby hotel for the night? I haven't rented a place to live yet since I haven't secured the position." John asked the man, not surprised at the news.

"You haven't? I already have you enrolled in payroll." The man said, scratching his head. "I think it is a foregone conclusion you have the job already, Counselor Wayne."

Hun? Counselor? Is that the official title for the second and third-year teachers here?

"Really? Well, as great as that is, I still need a place to rent for a few days."

"Of course. Just head down..." The man gave him directions to a nearby hotel that was classy, but not terribly expensive. John thanked him, then took his leave. He wanted nothing more than a hot shower and maybe to grab a bite to eat. A quick check on his phone showed he had several million Yen and a few hundred thousand USD in his bank accounts. He still had no idea how far that would take him here, but he assumed it was at least enough for a place to sleep for a few nights if necessary before he found a more permanent solution.

If I am even here that long.

He didn't like this world. He didn't like their stupid laws that were protecting murderers, kidnappers, and some of these more heinous criminals, allowing them out of jail just to run rampant again. He didn't like how nearly ninety percent of the population had quirks, but they were illegal to use unless they were registered with the government, and not in public unless it was in self-defense. Unless they were harmless quirks. Sometimes.

The whole system reeked of bureaucracy and government overreach. Bad laws that were put in place with good intentions, doing more harm to innocent civilians than the criminals that were the intended target of the laws. And, from what he could tell, this school was just brainwashing students into believing those same ideals.

Not that I have a better idea at this very moment in time, other than letting heroes end the threats before they could crop up again.

He stepped outside of the school and started to make his way towards the main gate. Many students were outside, including some of those who were at the U.S.J., talking amongst themselves. He caught a few snippets of what they were saying, mostly about the attack and being thankful everyone had survived. He heard a few mentions of the 'Twilight Knight' who rescued them, but he didn't linger to listen to the gossip about him. If he was lucky, that 'person' wouldn't be seen again, and he could leave this world in relative peace.

Scratch the shower. All I want right now is a nap.

He started to walk again, then paused, running his hand over the scarred right side of his face for a moment, and came to a decision. He turned around and started approaching some of the students he had recognised from the incident. He had become so used to fighting and violence in recent months that he had nearly forgotten that these were students, most of whom were only in their mid to late teens.

This might have been the first time their lives were ever in real danger, and while he was hardly a therapist, he could at least make sure they were doing all right. Between his Scouter Skill and his Quirk, he could probably help these kids out in the tough situation they had found themselves in.

Once again, his afternoon nap would have to wait.

Back At The U.S.J.

"And you allowed this man to walk free?"

"What else was I supposed to do? He killed that Nomu with a couple of quick slashes of a sword. Even All Might didn't have the power to take down that thing before he ran out of power." Shota said, defending his actions to the principal of U.A., a short, furry rodent named Nezu.

The school staff, along with members of the police force, were still at the U.S.J., investigating the assault on the facility by this League of Villains. Though the hot topic seemed to be this armoured man that went by the name Twilight Knight, not to mention that All Might's sickness had now been discovered by the students and the villains.

"Correct me if I am wrong, Mr. Aizawa, but isn't your Quirk ideal for fighting in duels? Surely you could have shut off the man's Quirk and held him in custody until reinforcements arrived."

"You're not serious? The man killed that thing, and the villain's leader, who I might add, nearly killed me and one of the students. Then he came up to me and chanted something about holy light and the grace of god, and suddenly my broken limbs were all repaired and the pain all but gone. If I didn't know any better, I might have thought he was All For One* of all people, as he can clearly use multiple Quirks." He replied, gesturing to the odd block of dirt next to the corpse of Shigaraki that was still lying nearby.

I know this rat is brilliant, but I swear he thinks everyone is a damn robot sometimes. I'm not going to pick a fight and put my students in danger when the man was clearly not hostile towards us.

"Hmm, that is a distinct possibility. Not that he is the villain, but that he has a Quirk like All For One. Well, we will not get much more accomplished today." Nezu said, putting his hands into the pockets of his little suit. "Return home and get some rest. I am canceling school tomorrow so we can have a full debriefing with the staff and police on this incident. I will see you in the morning, Mr. Aizawa."

"Right. Good Night, Mr. Principal." Shota replied, then turned to leave the U.S.J. He wanted to make a quick stop by the school before he went home. He might be used to the violence that came with fighting criminals, but for most of his students, this was the first time many of them had been exposed to the true nature of the work they signed up for by joining U.A. He knew he wasn't the best people person, but he should at least check up on them before he went home to lick his own wounds.

* - All For One is the overarching antagonist of the My Hero Academia manga and anime series. He was the founder and benefactor of the League of Villains. His Quirk is called All For One as well, which has allowed him to steal multiple Quirks from others.
