175. Jack is a coward
The Shadow That Fled to Paris
The anger had cooled into disdain. The disdain had sharpened into something colder, a clinical contempt for anything that dared stand in front of him and still called itself competition.
Chaos in his thoughts: Our friendship faded, and I miss it. It felt really comfortable and safe. I could and did call her at any hour of the day just to share random tidbits; if I didn’t want to be alone, I’d go to his house just to be around him. I felt like I could be my totally unfiltered self around him. I’m glad I got to experience that.
It's a lot of ease, trust, and vulnerability. They're the person who you can be yourself with to the fullest extent. You can read each other's emotions without a word. You understand each other's obscure references and dumb jokes. They're someone who knows your traumas and insecurities, and you know theirs. They're someone whom you choose to let in and choose to trust and choose to love, and they choose you back. It's not always perfect; you're going to disagree and fight and even hurt each other, but good friends will communicate and work through it and learn to be better together.
It can feel very domestic at times, the way you move around each other, like you've done it a million times before. Minimal fumbling with actions and words. Even silence is comfortable when you're in it together. They encourage you and challenge you and support you and comfort you. You have each other's backs. You believe in each other. Whether you're at your best or at your worst, you know you're safe together.
And when it ends, it is the worst heartbreak you've ever experienced. You feel their absence deep in your soul. It's pain that you have to suffer through every day.
It's a suffocating loneliness that time doesn't seem to heal, because you know that no other friendship could ever compare. It's like a piece of you is just gone. And even though they're the one who ended it abruptly with no explanation, you can't hate them. You just want them to be okay and happy. You might even be willing to wait and hope that they'll come back to you, no matter how long it takes. Or, that's how it feels for me.
But there was one name that still made the Chaos Heart flicker with something older than rage.
Maat.
Formerly Jack.
The boy who had once been his brother. The one who had taken Emily. The one who had laughed at his dreams before Real Madrid proved them true. The self-proclaimed embodiment of Order who had tried, season after season, to stand as the final wall against Chaos.
He could not take it anymore.
After the 11–0 demolition of Valencia, news broke across Europe like a quiet earthquake.
Maat Transfers to Paris Saint-Germain.
The move was completed in record time. A massive fee. A contract that made him one of the highest-paid players in the world. Barcelona, once his kingdom, let him go without much fight. The club statement was polite. The truth was uglier.
Maat could no longer bear sharing the same pitch as Caos.
In a private interview with a French sports network, conducted in a dimly lit room overlooking the Champs-Élysées, Maat finally spoke.
Maat (voice steady, but eyes carrying years of quiet fracture):
I have spent years trying to bring order to chaos.
Every El Clásico, every duel, every time I stepped onto that pitch against him… I told myself that structure would win. That discipline would prevail. That one day the storm would break against the rock.
He paused. The camera caught the slight twitch in his jaw.
Maat:
But some storms do not break.
They consume.
Caos is no longer playing football. He is waging war on the very idea of competition. And I… I am tired of being another footnote in his ascension. Tired of watching him look at me with that cold disgust, like I am something weak that should have known better than to stand in his way.
He leaned forward, eyes hardening.
Maat:
Paris is a new beginning. A club with ambition. A project that understands power. Here, I will rebuild what Barcelona could not contain. And if our paths cross again in Europe… I will not make the same mistake of believing order can contain him.
I will become something sharper.
Back in Madrid, Caos read the news in the mansion garden while the three maids trained lightly around him.
He stared at the headline for a long moment, violet eyes calm but distant.
Caos (murmuring to himself):
Jack… Maat… whatever name you choose now.
You ran.
Not from me. From the mirror I came. Every time you lost, you saw the boy you betrayed staring back at you, stronger, faster, free of the chains you still wear.
Zeraphina paused her drills and walked over, wiping sweat from her brow.
Zeraphina:
He couldn’t take it anymore. The constant humiliation. The way you look at him like he’s already forgotten. Transferring to PSG… It's not ambition. It’s escape.
Keyla (kicking a ball lightly):
Old friend turned rival turned ghost. He took Emily from you once. Now he’s running from the man you became after he did it. Poetic, in a pathetic way.
Michaela (softly):
He represents the old world. The one that still believes in rules and limits. You are the new one. The one that breaks them without apology. His departure is proof you are winning on every level.
Caos stood up slowly, the ball rolling to his feet as if summoned.
Caos:
Let him run to Paris. Let him rebuild his pride behind new colors.
When we meet again in the Champions League, or wherever fate decides, I will show him the same cold truth I show every weak opponent now.
He looked toward the horizon, violet eyes narrowing.
Caos:
Order was always an illusion.
And I am the one who keeps proving it.
The season continued.
Maat had gone to Paris, chasing redemption in a new city.
Chaos remained in Madrid, colder, sharper, and more singular than ever.
The old rivalry had not ended.
Like thinking you know the rules to a board game and then realizing you’re doing it wrong and trying not to throw the board and never play again even though the other player literally just wants to chill with you and doesn’t care when you get it wrong or feel intimidated when you’re winning or pity you when you’re losing.
It had simply changed addresses.
To be continued…
