Chapter 251: My Sister’s Snooping Around?
I found myself receiving a request to meet with Jia Lian which was quite a surprise since this might be the first time she requested this directly.
I waited in the living room as the ding came from the elevator to my penthouse after I granted her access, the door opening to reveal a nervous looking Jia Lian standing inside.
She looked around for a moment before spotting me sitting on the couch, prompting her to step out and head directly towards me with hurried steps.
"Q... Qing... Thank you for meeting me."
I raised an eyebrow at her, "It’s no big deal. What’s the problem?"
She seemed to be a little hesitant to speak so I patted the space beside me.
She looked around the room and I realised what she was looking for and shook my head, "My sister went back home so she’s not here right now."
She originally wanted to leave a clone here but I told her to go back home and deal with tricking our mother first before she comes back. Removing her clone from here would stop her from running back here if our mother ends up changing her mind about letting her come here.
I have no doubt if my sister knew mother was going to ground her at home, she would just switch places with her clone here and then hide behind me.
I have no intention of being used as her shield against our mother.
Jia Lian let out a breath, "I see... Umm... Err..."
"I assume you’re here because of something about my sister?" I asked, prodding her.
She nodded, "A little... Umm... Don’t take this the wrong way but... I think she doesn’t like me... Or actually... I think she doesn’t like any of us..."
"The ’us’ being?"
"Your Guardians, Qing."
"Really? She seems ok with you guys though? The other day she was even telling me that you like me and maybe I should pursue you."
She actually blushed slightly when she heard that.
"Umm... I... I’m not sure what she’s like when she’s with you, Qing... But... When I was talking with her that day... She was... For the lack of a better word... Rather hostile..."
That caught me by surprise.
"Hostile? How so?"
"Umm... Well... I won’t really say it’s hostile... I guess a more proper term would be like... She’s testing us?"
I raised an eyebrow, "That doesn’t sound... Hostile?"
"It’s... I may just be paranoid but... It feels like she’s testing us."
I waved my hand, "Ah, I get what you mean, that’s just how she is, you don’t have to worry about it. She may not seem like it but she’s actually really protective of family. She would screen the people around me to make sure that they aren’t trying to mean harm to me because, in her words, I’m too kind for my own good."
Jia Lian giggled, "Fufufu... That’s what I told her as well and she agreed with that too."
I gestured at her, "See? She’s not hostile. She’s just being protective."
"Mmm... I think that might be the case... But... She asked a lot of... Personal questions..."
"Like what?"
"Like umm... Whether I was a virgin and stuff..."
I let out a deep sigh, "I apologise for my sister’s insensitivity..."
"Ah, no, no... I think... Now that I know she told you about pursuing me... I think she was just trying to see if I might be a good enough partner for you. Although... I’m not too sure about the stalking though?"
I swivelled to face her, "The stalking? What do you mean?"
"I mean... Her ability is being able to split herself into clones, right? She seems to have her clones everywhere... Like... Everywhere we go... And she’s just constantly watching us..."
I blinked at her for a good few seconds.
This was definitely something I didn’t expect to hear about her.
I mean... In the past, she would also question my friends to the point that it looked like an interrogation... Even Dan had to undergo the same process before she finally accepted him.
She was especially harsh on my female friends because she claimed that a lot of them just want to take advantage of me so it’s her duty as my sister to make sure none of the ’harpies’ get to me.
But hearing her stalk my Guardians... Hmmm...
"Could this all just be a misunderstanding though?" I asked, trying my best to rationalise this. "I mean... She is working here right now after all. So maybe she’s not actually stalking anyone?"
"I don’t think someone would be just sweeping the exact same spot on a floor for two hours, Qing..."
Ok... I don’t know how to justify that...
I let out a sigh, "Ok... So... What do you think my sister is trying to do?"
Jia Lian poked her fingers together, "Umm... I’m not very sure but... If I am not wrong... I think she’s afraid that you will replace her with us... That’s why she’s trying to seek more attention from you and maybe... Find reasons for you to stay away from the rest of us..."
"You really think so?"
"Umm... I mean... I’m not sure but... I’ve read books where that is usually the case so... Maybe I’m wrong?"
Book huh... Though I can’t deny the fact that she has been acting a little weird while she’s here I suppose...
"What do the other Guardians think?" I asked.
"I don’t think they mind her that much but... They have also expressed some concerns... They just decided that it wasn’t wise to voice it since she’s your sister, Qing..."
I let out a sigh, "Well... I can understand that... I still think she’s just being her usual over protective self though..."
Jia Lian smiled at me, "It’s still a surprise to see that it’s the little sister being protective of the older brother though. I thought... Usually it’s the other way around?"
I sighed, "The irony is that we don’t take care of ourselves but worry over the other person instead. She doesn’t protect herself so I have to protect her instead... And I guess the same goes for me where I don’t really protect myself so it usually ends up with her looking out for me as well."
She gave me a pointed look, "I can see that. I suppose the both of you are really siblings in that regard. But I’m curious though... That cloning ability of hers seems really powerful doesn’t it? Does she know that you are the Mortal God yet?"
I understood what she was trying to ask and concentrated on myself to summon a clone of me in front of me.
A naked version of me popped into existence in front of us, standing rigidly as I took control over his body.
"She does... She already suspected it from long ago. She’s really too smart for me to hide anything from her."
Jia Lian did not reply immediately as her gaze was locked onto my clone.
More specifically... Her gaze was locked on the lower part of my clone’s body.
I grinned, "What are you spacing out for? It’s not like you’ve never seen it before, right?"
She quickly averted her gaze, "Ah! Umm... I mean... So... It seems like you managed to... Get her powers too, Qing? Umm... I... Umm... Congratulations!"
"Why are you congratulating me for this? Pretty sure I didn’t really do anything much to get this power though."
"Ah... Umm... I mean... So... You can use your clones to... Do things for you now... Right?"
I shook my head, "Not yet. I’m still trying to get used to it. This power doesn’t create a new consciousness for the clone, you know? I still have to control them manually while controlling my own body. Right now, making them move a few steps is already the most that I could do."
Jia Lian seemed to look a little disappointed, "Ah... Then... Does that mean that... You can’t get them to do... More complex stuff?"
I wasn’t really sure why she was disappointed by that but just shrugged my shoulders, "Not right now at least. I’m still trying to get used to them right now so it’s just a matter of practicing more I guess."
She nodded her head in understanding, "I see... Umm... I’m looking forward to you mastering this skill, Qing... This would be very... Convenient."
"It certainly is a convenient skill isn’t it? My sister really made use of this as much as she could to get to where she is right now."
Jia Lian let out a soft chuckle, "I’m sure she did. Umm... I should get going as well, Mortal God. Thank you for your time."
Hmm... She definitely sounded a little disappointed after hearing about my clones... I wonder why? Does she want to do something related to them or something?
Oh well... If she wanted to tell me, she would tell me I guess...
