A Dragon against the Whole World

Chapter 259 - 238: Surprise Attack and Decapitation!

"Push forward, push forward!"

The voice of the Jackal-Wolf Folk overseer was shrill and distorted with fear as he swung his long whip, desperately lashing at the Jackal-Wolf Folk and Kobolds who hesitated to advance after the fall of the Ogre Leader. The crack of the whip and the overseer’s screams seemed so feeble amidst the war cries of the Beastmen.

Dogman Doug flapped his wings, silently appearing where the Shaman was.

Rip!

His dagger slashed across the Elder Shaman’s throat, killing him by slitting his throat. Then, under the astonished and furious gaze of the Barbarian guards nearby, he disappeared again, only to reappear flapping his wings in mid-air.

"Retreat!"

The Warlord of iron will issued the command to retreat.

The already demoralized monsters fought and retreated, leaving a trail of corpses in the wake of the human and Beastmen pursuit.

"Why hasn’t it made a move? What’s the purpose of this White Dragon’s existence?"

Skull Splitter frowned deeply, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

Just then, his communication device vibrated intensely.

— The Ancestral Spirit Altar is under attack!

A few dozens of seconds earlier, in the northern Border Area, at the Dawn Tribe’s ancestral sacrificial grounds.

The spine of the Iron Spine Mountain Range lay silent in the night, the Ancestral Spirit Altar embedded at the peak’s summit. The ground, hewn smooth, was etched with ancient petroglyphs depicting old hunts, wars, and celestial totems.

Like ancient rocks, the Ancestral Guardians stood tall, with totem markings faintly glowing in the shadows.

Their physiques far surpassed those of ordinary Barbarian warriors, clad in hard leather armor inlaid with thick bone plates, and their bare skin branded with complex, dense tattoo patterns, narrating the Dawn Tribe’s ancestral tales of challenging nature and hunting fierce beasts, exuding the weight of history.

Shaman Leonie, a slender yet upright elderly woman, had her silver-gray hair braided into countless thin plaits hanging down to her waist.

She was the most powerful Shaman of the Dawn Tribe and its eldest sage, watching even the contemporary leader Brunhild since birth, blessing her from her swaddling days. In the Dawn Tribe, she held high prestige and status.

Leonie’s eyes were slightly closed, and her lips moved soundlessly.

She seemed to be listening to whispers from the depths of the earth, or perhaps praying to the slumbering Ancestral Essence.

Suddenly, her heart tightened as if gripped by an invisible hand, transmitting an intense sense of danger.

Buzz—!

A sharp tearing sound abruptly pierced the deathly silence.

It was not the mountain wind, nor thunder.

But something was ripping through the air at an terrifying speed, producing a deathly sound potent enough to make rocks tremble!

Shaman Leonie snapped her eyes open, those aged eyes entirely unclouded, and her Bone Staff heavily thudded on the altar’s stone surface.

"Enemy attack! Ancestral Spirit’s protection!"

Her hoarse voice resonated with a strange echo, almost overshadowing the piercing screech, as if awakening the mountain’s soul from slumber.

Simultaneously, the surrounding Ancestral Guardians, as if struck by an invisible hammer, burst forth from their calm state with terrifying momentum.

The four Guards at the core of the altar instinctively looked up, the muscles of their weapon-gripping arms bulging like steel cables, and the totem patterns on their bodies instantly flaring with dazzling light.

But, it was too late.

The grim, vicious Dragon Shadow, its entire body resembling a supreme weapon, was already upon them.

Death Omen Star, it is here!

"Listen, to the silencing extinction!"

Boom!

The Dragon Shadow blazed like a falling meteor, tearing a long tail scar in the sky and descending with flames electric enough to ignite the air and destroy everything in its path, striking the mountaintop with precision.

Crackling—! Rumbling—!

The earth trembled and the magically reinforced, iron-hard mountain surface shattered, fragmented, and lifted like fragile thin ice.

In the center, the Guards died instantly, their corpses obliterated, and a deep crater formed, with huge cracks spreading erratically from the impact point, threatening the entire mountain’s stability.

Then.

The majestic figure rising slowly from the dust and debris turned the very air into iron.

The Red Iron Dragon unfolded its wings, its body clad in Black Silver Dragon Scale marred with many cracks, exuding cold that froze the surrounding ground inch by inch, coating it with frost.

"Humans, use your Ancestral remnants to consecrate my battle flag and soothe the souls of the Molten Iron Warriors."

With a gaze brimming with invasive danger scanning the surviving Ancestral Guardians and Elder Shaman, the Red Iron Dragon spoke slowly.

As his words fell, two shadows simultaneously enveloped the mountain ruins.

Iron Dragon Solrog and Red Dragon Samantha, two adolescent dragons, soared left and right, circling the Red Iron Dragon with fierce glints in their eyes.

The Ignatius Brothers, taking advantage of the war distraction at Black Stone Pass capturing the Dawn Tribe’s attention, wielded the Dragon Race’s dominion over the skies to launch a surprise attack on the Dawn Tribe’s Ancestral Spirit Altar.

With the Ancestral Spirit Altar, those Barbarian Leaders could always be resurrected unless killed instantly.

Moreover, this place also gathered the faith of the Dawn Tribe, serving as their spiritual haven.

If destroyed, leaving the humans of the Dawn Tribe in utter despair, whether they retaliate with fury or suffer a morale collapse, the sacrifices made at Black Stone Pass would all be worthwhile.
