Chapter 615 - 499: Go Meet Your Future Husband
"Miss Tushan?"
Seeing the woman walking down the street, Liu Shui froze, her steps halting involuntarily.
Miss Tushan was walking beside another woman.
She was dressed in a Daoist Robe, her waist as slender as a willow branch, as if it would snap with the slightest touch.
The tassels of her silk sash hung at her side, swaying gently with each breath.
The front of her Daoist Robe was slightly open, revealing the moon-white undergarment within. Though the robe was loose, it couldn’t hide her graceful figure, the fabric stretching taut over the full curve of her chest.
Her eyes were exceptionally clear, like water in a mountain stream, flowing quietly. She had a fine, straight nose and lips of a natural, pale red, without a hint of powder or rouge. The line of her jaw was soft, resembling a faint crescent moon in profile.
Although Liu Shui hadn’t seen Tushan Jing Ci in three years, this woman bore an uncanny resemblance to her, as if cast from the very same mold.
The only difference was her hair color.
This woman had a head of natural black hair, as dark as ink. It wasn’t pinned up, but gathered loosely at the back of her head and tied with a matching silk ribbon.
The ends of her hair fell to her waist, swaying gently with her movements. A few stray strands clung to her cheeks, making her face appear all the more fair and jade-like.
In Liu Shui’s memory, however, Miss Tushan had hair as white as snow, as if spun from the purest drifts, giving her a cold and noble air.
’But what if... that really is Miss Tushan?’ Liu Shui thought to herself. The more she considered it, the more plausible the idea seemed.
She couldn’t help but take a step forward, wanting to call out to the woman and confirm her identity.
However—
In the blink of an eye, a gentle breeze swept by, and the two women vanished before Liu Shui’s very eyes.
The street was still teeming with people and bustling with traffic, as if that moment had been nothing more than a trick of her mind, and the two had never been there at all.
...
「Spring Tea City, City Lord’s Mansion.」
As that woman and her apprentice entered the main hall, the various Sect Leaders attending the victory banquet in Spring Tea City all rose to their feet. They bowed with cupped fists, their expressions respectful. "Greetings, Daoist Yun Xi."
"Everyone, there is no need for such formalities. Please, be seated," Daoist Yun Xi replied with a polite bow of her own, her voice gentle and calm.
"This way, Daoist." At the head of the assembly, Sect Leader Xu Donghui of the Moonview Sect gestured for her to proceed, solicitously guiding Daoist Yun Xi toward the seat of honor.
After Daoist Yun Xi and her apprentice were seated, many eyes in the hall turned toward them in unison.
The gazes of the younger generation, in particular, were mostly fixed upon the apprentice by Daoist Yun Xi’s side.
But the young woman, whose name was Gui Junmeng, seemed oblivious to the stares directed at her. She simply sat primly beside her master, her expression serene and composed, her eyes fixed straight ahead.
"We’ve received news! In addition to our own Spring Tea City, the other four armies of the Human Alliance have also successfully conquered their target cities. The situation for our Human Alliance is looking excellent!"
Xu Donghui raised his cup high, looked around at the crowd, and declared in a booming voice.
"I propose a toast to everyone!"
"Cheers!"
Everyone raised their cups in unison.
The Loose Cultivator Wang Feiyu wiped his mouth, his face flush with excitement, and his voice rose a few notches.
"And it’s not just our Human Alliance making smooth progress! The sects and dynasties within the Demon Race have also fallen into strife! After the second Human-Demon War, the various Demon Race sects and dynasties are now at each other’s throats. They all want to become the new hegemon of the Demon Race’s World and establish a new order. For our Human Race, this is an absolutely once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"
"Hahaha, and get this! I heard the Tushan clan has taken the lead in forming an alliance called the ’Ten Thousand Demon Alliance,’ and they’re fighting to the death with the other Demon Race dynasties!"
"Serves them right! Let them tear each other apart like dogs! The bloodier, the better!"
"That’s right! The Human Race is united, while the Demon Race is consumed by infighting. Now is the time for us humans to turn the tables!"
The crowd grew more and more excited as they chimed in one after another.
As for these passionate declarations at the banquet, Daoist Yun Xi offered no comment. She simply sat quietly with a faint smile, as if none of it had anything to do with her.
Two hours later, after several rounds of drinks, Yun Xi decided it was getting late. She rose to her feet and politely took her leave from her fellow cultivators.
Xu Donghui personally rose and escorted her all the way to the city gates.
"Daoist Yun Xi,"
Xu Donghui slowed his pace, his expression turning more serious. A flicker of desire for the position of Human Alliance Hierarch glinted in his eyes.
"In four months, all the Sect Leaders of our Human Alliance, as well as all Cultivators at the Nascent Soul Realm and above, will gather. I’ve heard that Lei Peng and others have proposed appointing a Human Alliance Hierarch. I suspect quite a few people have their eyes on that position. I was wondering if the Daoist has anyone in mind?"
He knew in his heart that Daoist Yun Xi herself would not vie for the position of Alliance Hierarch.
But anyone who could gain her support would undoubtedly have a much greater chance of success.
However, Daoist Yun Xi simply shook her head, her tone peaceful. "As long as everyone can work together for the future of the Human Race, it doesn’t really matter who becomes the Alliance Hierarch. I will not be attending the Human Alliance conference in four months. Whoever you all choose will be the one."
"Eh? You won’t be attending?" Xu Donghui’s face showed his surprise.
"That is correct." Daoist Yun Xi nodded. "I must take my apprentice to a certain place to meet someone important. I hope Sect Leader Xu will understand."
"I see..." Although Xu Donghui was curious about who Daoist Yun Xi was going to see, he could tell she had no intention of elaborating. He didn’t press the matter and simply nodded.
"Sect Leader Xu, you’ve escorted us far enough. We, master and apprentice, will take our leave now." Yun Xi stopped, turned, and bowed to Xu Donghui.
"Take care, Daoist." Xu Donghui quickly returned the bow.
Daoist Yun Xi gave a slight nod, then with a flick of the duster in her hand, a gust of wind rose from nowhere. When Xu Donghui looked up again, the pair were already beyond the clouds, leaving only a faint wisp of a trail in the sky.
"Master, who are we going to see?"
Following beside her master, Gui Junmeng turned her head curiously, her clear eyes gazing at Daoist Yun Xi as she asked in a soft voice.
"Do you remember that marriage contract?" Daoist Yun Xi turned her head to look at her apprentice, a meaningful smile playing on her lips.
"Of course I remember." Upon hearing this, Gui Junmeng’s cheeks flushed slightly, and her voice became unconsciously softer.
’How could I possibly forget?’
When she was six years old, her master had told her—that she had arranged a childhood betrothal for her.
"We are..."
Daoist Yun Xi reached out and gently stroked her apprentice’s long hair, her gaze tender and affectionate.
"Going to meet your future husband."
