Sweet Love 2x: Miss Ruthless CEO for our Superstar Uncle

Chapter 201: Back in Position

Arianne’s hand rested on the file tied to Dominic. She hadn’t moved from that spot since the last words settled. Her attention wasn’t scanning the documents anymore. Just holding them in place.

Franz stood beside her. Not looking at the papers. Looking at her.

He had been watching her since she stepped back from the table and said her past and Alex’s death weren’t separate things. Something had changed in how she was holding herself. Small. The kind of thing you’d only see if you were already paying close attention. And he was.

Across from them, Nate and Julian stood angled inward. Gilbert stayed at the head, silent. Not presenting anymore. Just watching.

Nate exhaled. "That doesn’t explain something."

Arianne’s gaze lifted.

"After you disappeared," Nate said, "he was looking for you."

The room went quiet. Arianne didn’t react. No change in her face. No visible tension. But Franz saw her hand press a little harder against the table.

"How," she said. One word.

"Not publicly," Nate said. "Private channels. Consistent. Not one or two tries. He kept at it."

"For what purpose," Arianne said.

"We don’t know," Nate said. "There wasn’t a clear reason tied to it."

Arianne didn’t answer right away. Not because she was thinking. Because she was holding something.

"That doesn’t fit," she said.

She moved one of the documents. Not because it needed moving.

"If my removal was required, then my absence should have been kept. Searching for me goes against that."

Julian’s brow tightened. "Unless he lost control after."

"Or didn’t have full control to begin with," Nate said.

Franz spoke. "Or he wasn’t allowed to let it end there."

Arianne’s gaze stayed on the documents, but she wasn’t reading them. She was going back. Seven years. Not as memory. As structure. Seven years of shared decisions, access that didn’t need to be requested, information that moved between them without friction. She had thought that was partnership. The word felt different now. Partnership meant equal ground. What she was looking at on this table described something else. A position she had occupied without knowing what it was for.

"He had access," she said.

Julian nodded. "That’s already clear."

"Not just to the systems." A pause. "To how they were built. He knew where pressure wouldn’t show. He knew where it would take time."

Franz watched her say it. Each word precise. Each word costing something she wasn’t going to let show.

"He knew all of it," Julian said.

Arianne’s eyes didn’t move. "Yes."

Nate leaned back. "That doesn’t explain why he’d look for you after."

Arianne didn’t answer right away. Because it didn’t.

Her eyes moved across the timeline. Dominic’s loss. The move through the shell. The engagement. The announcement. Her removal. Her disappearance. Then, after all of it: the search.

"He moved when he was supposed to," she said. "And then he kept moving."

"That’s not a reason," Julian said.

"No," Arianne said. "It’s not. Something changed. Not him—the situation. He no longer had the same position after I was gone."

Franz’s attention sharpened. "That would explain the problem."

Nate looked between them. "So he helps remove you. Then searches for you. Without a clear reason. Because the situation changed around him."

"He wasn’t acting alone," Arianne said.

The words settled. Gilbert’s silence confirmed it.

Julian leaned forward. "Then what was his role after?"

"We don’t know," Arianne said. "We don’t."

She looked at the timeline again. When she spoke, something in her voice shifted. Not much. But enough.

"Five years ago. The engagement."

She stopped.

A short pause. No one would have called it hesitation. But Franz saw it. The breath she took before she continued. The way her hand on the file pressed flat.

"The timing never made sense to me then," she said. "It does now."

Julian: "It was too clean."

"The announcement wasn’t the trigger," she said. "It was the signal. Everything moved at once—the board, the legal side, the transition. All of it was in place before that night. Long before."

She had spent five years thinking the engagement party was the moment her life broke. She understood now that it was already broken. That night was just when she found out.

She had gone over that night more times than she could count. Not obsessively. She had moved past that years ago. But the way you go back to something that never closes. Something that sits in you without answer. She had always known the timing was wrong. She had always known the pieces moved too fast, too clean, too coordinated to be chance. But she had never had the full picture. She had only had the wreckage. And you can only do so much with wreckage.

Now she had the structure.

She didn’t say that out loud.

Nate said it low, almost not a word: "Diana."

Arianne didn’t react. "Dominic moved when he had to. He was inside something he didn’t build. Someone designed it. He stayed inside it."

Franz watched her face as she said his name. Dominic. She said it the same way she said everything. Controlled. Precise. No extra. But he had been beside her long enough to know what she looked like when control was a choice and not just how she was. Right now it was a choice. Every word about that part of her life was a choice.

He thought about what it would take to sit in a room and name, one by one, the parts of your own breaking. To trace the logic of how you were removed from your own life. To do it in front of people who cared about you, and not let any of it show, because letting it show would mean losing the one thing you’d held onto the whole five years you were gone.

He didn’t interrupt. He didn’t reach for her. He just stayed close.

"I wasn’t removed because I failed," Arianne said. "I was removed because I was in the way."

Franz’s hand pressed against the table. "You would have found it."

"Yes." No hesitation.

Arianne had known that. She had suspected for years that what happened to her wasn’t bad luck or failure. It had been built. But knowing it in your gut and having it laid out in documents across a table were different things. Her hands were steady. Her voice was even. But the five years she had spent not knowing—the five years she had spent gone, cut off from everything she had built, present only at the edges of her own life—those years were in the room with her. In the flatness of how she said yes. In the fact that she didn’t look up after.

Five years. She had lost five years to this. And she had come back only because Alex died. Because losing him had been the one thing that pulled harder than the distance she’d kept. Now she was standing over the evidence of what had been done to her, and it turned out those weren’t separate losses at all. They were the same thing. The same hand.

She didn’t say that either.

"And now you’re back," Julian said.

"Yes."

"Which puts you back where you were. Which is why they leaked your face."

Arianne’s gaze returned to the documents. "Five years ago, they removed control." Her hand rested on the file tied to Dominic. "Now they’re making sure everyone sees me."

The room held that.

The documents remained spread across the table. Dominic. Blackwood. Summers. A pattern that had stopped being something they were looking for and become something they were standing inside.

Arianne stood at the center. Franz beside her. Her hand on the file, not moving.

She had spent five years trying to understand what had happened to her. Not every day. Not obsessively. But in the gaps where the question came back. She had tried to name it. She had tried to find the logic. She had gotten close sometimes and then hit the edge of what she knew and stopped.

She wasn’t at the edge anymore. She had the structure. She had the sequence. She had the full picture, finally, and she knew what to do with it.

Arianne didn’t close the file. She left her hand on it. As if marking the exact point where the past stopped being unclear—and started becoming usable.
