Chapter 94 - 94: Why did the Snake give up?
We all looked at the Snake King who was about to attack Xanders.
"If I lose, then kill me. If I win, then I will kill you!" Hearing his statement immediately made me raise my eyebrows, and he immediately moved his tail.
"Father, why are you attacking him?" his child asked, but his father continued attacking me.
"Come, attack with your ability!" the Snake King ordered, and after that the other two immediately moved aside.
"Do you think that is the guardian beast of this mountain?" Farrel asked while looking at William, and William replied with a nod.
"I think so," William answered in a low voice, but from here I could see it clearly.
The snake was enormous and had pitch-black scales. On top of its head was also a towering horn.
"I do not need your pity. Fight according to your nature," he said, and in the narrow cave we began to fight.
We fought, and I used my Ancient Flame while he used the venom from his fangs, preparing to bite my flesh.
The snake raised its head, and its tongue flicked out as if it was testing its venom.
The hissing sound became clearer, and the ground also shook rapidly.
I drew my sword and began fighting him, occasionally avoiding his attacks.
Ssssssshhhhhh
"I have to stay focused," I said while raising my sword, and after that the snake immediately lunged at me. I dodged to the side, but my shoulder hit the rocks.
After I dodged, he still continued charging at me, and I immediately moved aside again. Finally, the snake's head crashed into the rocks. The sound of the rocks cracking echoed loudly through the tunnel, and before I could breathe a sigh of relief, its tail suddenly slammed me back against the rocks.
Bang!
"Akhhh..." I groaned while enduring the pain in my arm, and I saw my sword fall quite far away from me.
As I was about to get up, the snake suddenly attacked me again, and this time it did not hiss, so I did not realize it. I immediately rolled to the side so I could avoid it again, but it still used its tail to attack me.
It opened its mouth wide, and I immediately rolled closer to my sword, and the snake missed me once again.
I took a deep breath and raised my sword after picking it up.
It attacked me again by opening its mouth wide once more. I immediately rushed forward, and before I realized it, it had already swung its tail, causing me to be caught in its coil. My sword fell once again.
It tightened its grip around me. Even Farrel and William were already shouting my name, but the pain in my head made everything spin, and my oxygen was almost gone.
I struggled slowly. To manipulate what it was thinking, I pretended to be weak so that it would loosen its coil a little, and after that it indeed loosened its grip.
Without realizing it, it had already fallen into my trap.
My Ancient Flame suddenly awakened, and I felt intense heat spreading through my veins. I immediately clenched my fists tightly so that the flame would come out of my body.
The snake seemed to realize it. It immediately retreated and stared at me in disbelief.
"The Ancient Flame?" It looked shocked.
I immediately took as much air as possible because its coil had been incredibly tight.
"Are you alright?" Farrel asked while looking at me worriedly, but I continued staring at the Snake King..
"Why didn't you kill me with the Ancient Flame?" he asked, but I remained silent and slowly stepped forward.
"I don't want to kill you!" I answered, but he still shook his head.
"Kill me if I truly lose." After saying that, he immediately rushed forward and attacked me.
I immediately pushed Farrel backward and quickly picked up my sword.
My Ancient Flame immediately spread through my sword, and this time I immediately jumped while he opened his mouth wide.
As the snake opened its mouth, I immediately stabbed it.
I jumped straight forward.
"Die..." I said in a low voice.
Bleshh
"Akhhhhhh..."
The snake's body immediately writhed violently before finally collapsing to the ground.
Blood immediately gushed out after my sword pierced through its thick scaled skin. The snake howled with a thunderous roar, and slowly the trembling of the ground also became weaker.
"Forgive me, my child!" I faintly heard those words, but after that the crying became even louder as his child rushed to his side.
I steadied my breathing and looked at him with a sorrowful gaze.
"Father...."
The little child immediately ran over. Although I was sure he was not his real child, the affection between the two of them truly existed.
"Xanders, are you hurt?" Farrel said as William walked toward me. I turned to them and shook my head.
"I'm fine!" I answered and walked toward the snake spirit.
"Why did you kill my father?"
The little child stood up and lightly hit my thigh, but I remained silent.
"Your father was the one who told me to kill him," I asked while narrowing my eyes. Instantly, he stopped hitting me and looked at me.
"Did your father ever tell you something?" I asked him because it was impossible for him to say that if he did not know something.
"Are you the owner of the Ancient Flame?" he asked while wiping away his tears, and I nodded.
"My father has been waiting for you for hundreds of years!"
"What!"
"What?"
"How is that possible?" the three of us asked at the same time.
"Your father was waiting for him?" William asked in disbelief, and he answered with a nod.
"How could that be?" Farrel asked with a very confused expression while looking at the Snake Spirit King.
"My father was assigned to guard a flower, and that was a punishment he had to carry out!"
Hearing his statement immediately made me raise my eyebrows.
"Are you from the Witch Clan?" I asked softly. He immediately nodded slowly.
"I thought you were from the Human Clan!" William said. After that, he walked toward the snake's body.
Even though blood was scattered everywhere, the child still hugged the Snake King.
"What should we do after this?" Farrel asked, and then William told us to rest here for a while.
"We'd better bury him and rest here!"
I also nodded, agreeing with William's suggestion, and we all looked at the little child.
"What is your name?" Farrel asked as he approached him. He looked at the Snake Spirit who was already lying motionless.
"My name is Mikaila," he said while wiping the tears from his cheeks.
"If we bury him, will you allow it?" William asked, and Mikaila immediately nodded.
"I give my permission!"
After that, we hurried to dig the ground to bury the snake's body, accompanied by Mikaila's crying.
It took two hours to finish everything, and because we were exhausted, we sat down.
Inside this cave, there was a large bed. Perhaps it was the bed Mikaila used to sleep on.
I didn't know what he was looking for, but he seemed to have been searching for something for quite a while.
"What are you looking for?" Farrel asked while looking at Mikaila.
"It seems Father left me a book, but I forgot where I put it," he said while letting out a heavy sigh.
"Is that book very important?" Farrel asked, and Mikaila replied with a nod.
"What does the book look like? Maybe I can help you find it."
Farrel and I immediately stood up and walked toward the bed, but before we got close, he suddenly told us to stop.
"You must not enter this place!"
His loud voice immediately made us look at each other.
"Why?" I asked with a curious expression, but he shook his head.
"I don't know. But what I do know is that Father warned me that if you entered this area, you would be injured."
Curious, Farrel immediately stepped across the two lines that marked the boundary.
I looked at him, but Farrel did not appear to be hurt at all.
"Nothing happened to me," Farrel said while raising his hands and looking at his body, which was completely unharmed.
"Now you try crossing the line. Maybe you won't be hurt either," Farrel said in a low voice.
As I was about to step forward, William suddenly patted my shoulder gently.
"I hope you never cross the boundary."
After William said that, I immediately stopped.
"I've found the book. This is my father's message for the one who possesses the Ancient Flame."
Mikaila immediately handed it to me, and I looked at the book.
"Did your father say anything before he passed away?" William asked with a curious look, and Mikaila answered with a nod.
"I was with him for almost ten years, and he was also the one who saved me from being chased by the demons."
He paused for a moment.
"All I know is that Father had been waiting for someone, and when he met that person, he would surely die because he had already completed his duty."
He wiped away the tears that fell, and it immediately reminded me of Grandma Wilona, who had helped me.
"I don't want to talk to you anymore. If you have already rested, then leave this cave immediately."
After saying that, Mikaila left the three of us, who simply looked at one another.
He pulled the blanket over himself, and together we heard the sound of his sobbing, which was heartbreaking.
At such a young age, I understood the meaning of loss. The three of u
simply nodded because perhaps it was the hardest blow for him, seeing his adoptive father being killed right before his own eyes.
