Chapter 54 - 54: Diamond Flakes
We walked stealthily and still glanced nervously toward the doors that could possibly connect to them. But in the current situation, only the sound of swords clashing could be heard, so I thought that it was Kael diverting their attention to himself.
In front of me was already a door, and wasn't this the door we had passed through before? So I thought this door probably did not have many traps.
Considering that many of these people were hoping to save their own lives in order to survive, I told them to enter first and guided them to leave through the underground corridor led by an official named Arif.
"Are you the one named Xanders?" he asked me with doubt and fear, and I nodded.
"My God, I finally met you?"
"You really are helping me get out of here?" I did not answer.
"So all those rumors about you are lies?" I smiled faintly.
"It depends on which side you're looking from."
"Enough. Take them away from here."
"I trust you to take all of them out of here," I said to him, and he looked embarrassed after I said that.
"Thank you for trusting me, I will carry out what you ordered."
He said that, and I immediately headed toward the door.
We walked and managed to open it. Apparently there were still several traps, but they could pass through them.
"Are you sure you can do this on your own?" I asked once again, and he nodded.
"I can still help them."
"I know maybe the bad rumors about you have spread widely, but your duty is not only to help us." I smiled faintly at that.
"Go safely. In front of you there are my subordinates waiting for you."
After that, one by one they entered, and the last was the middle-aged man named Arif, whom I entrusted to get them out of this palace.
I looked at the door that had tightly closed again. Silence filled the place. There was no sign of anyone walking, even though there had been so many soldiers earlier. Everything was quiet.
From a distance, faintly, I heard the sound of a bird chirping. The sound grew closer and my steps slowed. I turned around to make sure whether it was Kael.
Then my ears rang as if I felt intense pain in my head. The sound was so piercing that I held my head and grabbed my own hair.
My necklace throbbed, emitting a red glow, and I immediately looked around to make sure whether there were demons approaching me or not.
"Xanders." I recognized the voice.
Hesitantly, I turned back while holding my head.
"You…" I said in shock, and the bird approached me.
"You managed to deceive them?" I asked with a faint smile, and he landed on my shoulder.
"Yes, I asked my friends for help," he said proudly, but my necklace was still pulsing red.
"Have you freed the prisoners?" Kael asked, and I nodded.
"Don't you think this is a little strange?" I said while walking slowly, and Kael fell silent.
"Strange?" he muttered while looking around.
"I think so."
"Where is your other friend?" Kael asked after realizing that Farrel was not beside me.
"Farrel?"
"You know him?" I asked with narrowed eyes, but he sighed roughly.
"I don't know him, I just know that he is your best friend."
"He is looking for his parents. We have to hurry to find my uncle and aunt," I explained briefly, and he nodded.
"Wait…"
"How did you get in here and what exactly happened outside?" I asked him, because their strength did not make sense. If demon soldiers and witches united, how could they be defeated by a bird?
"We just caused chaos in the area and the situation right now is quite overwhelming." I nodded without asking further.
"So what is your plan?" Kael asked again, and I remained silent.
"We must find my uncle and aunt first. We have to find them so they don't lose their lives." He turned to look at me.
"You want to drive them out of here? Alone?" Kael asked in disbelief, and I nodded.
"I even want to make them feel what the Elf clan felt."
"You may be strong, but they are not few, and if they unite their strength could be great," Kael warned me. But I could not stay silent if my territory was taken.
"There is no other way," I said while clenching my fists.
"Do you have information about this clan?" I asked him, but he looked away, making me suspicious that there was something they were after here.
"I… I don't know!" Kael stuttered.
"You know… actually every clan has a diamond shaped like half a heart." I was shocked hearing that.
"Diamond?"
"Yes. As far as I know every clan has half of a diamond."
"Who told you that?" This was the first time I heard about it. Was it that important that demons and witches united to get it?
"Why do they really want the diamond?" His small feet moved closer and he lowered his voice as if someone might hear us, even though we were alone in the corridor.
"According to legend, if someone unites every shard of the diamond, they will become a ruler. Unbeatable." Now I understood why they united. They were after the diamond. If he had not told me, I would not have known, and maybe I would have been made a fool by those behind me.
"How many diamonds do the demons have now?" I asked.
"They already have four!"
"Four?" My eyes widened in disbelief, and Kael nodded.
"Yes. Vampire clan, werewolf, witches, and Elf." I scratched my ear. Was my hearing wrong?
"Has the Elf clan's diamond been found by them?" I asked in a trembling voice, and Kael nodded.
"I'm sorry that I failed."
"They already got it, and the situation now is slightly better than before." He looked at me sadly, and I could not even blame him because we were too late.
"Does Albert know?" I asked anxiously, and he shook his head.
"He doesn't know yet, but before that he visited a seer who said we would not succeed." My lips felt numb hearing that. I sat down weakly, staring ahead.
"So everything we did ends up meaningless?" My gaze was empty and I remembered Farrel.
"Nothing is meaningless!" Kael encouraged me, and I smiled faintly.
"Thank you for cheering me up, even though I'm sad, I feel a little comforted."
He did not reply but looked at my red necklace.
"It seems something terrible is about to happen. Be prepared."
From here my ears heard someone approaching, followed by several others whose footsteps echoed loudly in the corridor.
Kael disappeared, leaving me alone through the air vent.
"You… the one who took our prisoners?" In front of me were several demons ready to pounce, their smell strong.
"Release them all!" I demanded, but he spat in front of me.
"Before they get you, I will eat your flesh."
"Attack." About ten demons attacked me brutally. I managed to block them even though attacks kept coming. Their bodies were big and tall, but they were slower than me, so I easily threw them to the ground.
Crash
Crash
Crash
Thud
Brakkk
Akhh
Crash
Akhhh
Akhhh
Brakkk
He.
He still smiled widely while watching his soldiers fall one by one.
He laughed seeing his men dead, none left. I stayed silent as he approached with a long sharp sword.
The smell of blood was strong.
"Hahahahahaha you killed them easily?" He lit a cigarette and blew the smoke toward me. I stayed calm.
"You are the legend of the ancient fire?" he asked. I remained silent.
"How great are you to defeat my soldiers?" He blew smoke again.
"You are the one who ordered your men to attack me repeatedly, aren't you?" I asked with narrowed eyes. He laughed loudly.
"Hahahahahaha you just realized?"
I chuckled softly.
"I realized it before you appeared in front of me!"
"Cuih…"
"Hand over what you have." He threw away his cigarette and crushed it.
"You are forcing what is not yours to become yours."
"Like a dog barking, asking for food that is not yours."
He became furious and raised his sword at me.
"You are truly a bastard," he cursed as he attacked me.
