Chapter 1169 373: Living Corpses and Priests (Part 2)
With the priests of the Sun God, the Evil God Embryo created its own priests in its own way. They need no faith, no will, only to become conduits of energy.
Very efficient.
And they seem to be unwaveringly loyal.
What is even more spine-chilling is that around the hall, ghost brides keep pouring in from various passages. Their appearances vary — some wear school uniforms, some drape themselves in dancer's veils, and some are simply wrapped in white cloth like deceased young girls — but their eyes all burn with red light, and they all drag black coffins in their hands.
The coffins are opened one by one.
Inside are not corpses, but living humans.
Ordinary citizens, wandering wizards, scholars, craftsmen... All have labels stuck on them with crimson ink detailing their extraordinary skills.
They are forcibly dragged from the coffins and thrown to the ground. Some scream, some struggle, some angrily demand answers:
"Who are you?! Where is this place?!"
"Let go of me! I'm a registered wizard of the Dusk Hermit Association! You'll face judgment!"
"Is this... the underground of the Temple? Are you insane?!"
No one responds. The Mummy Priests simply continue their chanting, as the ghost brides coldly push them to the center.
In an instant, twelve mummy priests simultaneously raise their hands, beams of eerie green light shoot out from their palms, weaving into a massive energy net that envelopes all the live sacrifices.
Their bodies begin to glow, golden patterns appear under their skin, identical to those on the surface of the embryo. Their life force, magic affinity, and soul essence are forcibly extracted, transformed into streams of golden light constantly injected into the embryo.
Screams of agony resound endlessly.
Someone tries to resist, releasing magic, but as soon as the magic power gathers, it is devoured by the energy net. Someone tries to flee but finds their legs feel like lead, unable to move an inch.
A matter of seconds.
All the live sacrifices' bodies begin to wither, skin shrinks, eyes hollow out, eventually becoming mummified corpses, carried away by the ghost brides, hung on the dome, to become new "chanters."
"After extracting their life essence, the remaining corpses are converted into the living corpse followers? Tsk~" Ian couldn't help but be shocked by the twisted thoughts and brutal will of the golden embryo.
"Ahhhhh——!"
The piercing scream interrupted Ian's thoughts. Ian turned to look and saw another ghost bride dragging a black coffin into the cellar. When she opened the coffin lid, five living people chained up were curled inside, each with a papyrus label on their forehead: "Sybill Trelawney," "Herbal Scholar," "Master Architect..."
The mummies suddenly collectively turned towards the new sacrifices. They rose with eerie synchronization, bone claws clutching the struggling live humans, dragging them around the flesh egg to seven specific spots. One young woman struggles frantically, shouting at the Scepter Priest: "Save us! Aren't you the High Priest?!"
The Scepter Priest sits slumped on the ground, lips trembling but unable to utter a single word. The mummies press the sacrifices on stone slabs with grooves carved on them, bone claws scratching across their foreheads. As blood gushes forth, the flesh egg suddenly contracts violently, seven golden chains tautly stretched. Ian clearly sees streams of blue energy being extracted from the foreheads of the sacrifices, flowing through the engraved trenches on the ground towards the flesh egg.
"No... no..." Sybill Trelawney's eyes fade quickly, "I can see... it is..."
Her final words are abruptly cut off.
All sacrifices become rigid simultaneously, skin visibly shriveled, ultimately becoming mummified corpses like those around. Their foreheads also begin to bulge, tiny golden buds breaking through the skin. Having witnessed two consecutive sacrifices, the Scepter Priest finally collapses. He crawls frantically toward the flesh egg, banging his head on the ground.
"No... no... I'm not a sacrifice! I'm a priest! I am a high-ranking holder of the scepter in the Temple! I can serve you! Great God! Please, let me be your High Priest! I can manage your followers! Write your oracles for you! I know all the secrets of the Temple! I can help you obtain more sacrifices!"
He kneels on the ground, his forehead hitting the floor, bleeding profusely.
"I am willing to offer my soul! My knowledge! Everything of mine! Just please let me live! Let me become your most loyal servant!"
He truly doesn't want to die, and even more so doesn't want to become a sacrifice. Due to magic being sealed, he missed the best timing for suicide, and now even wanting to die directly is a luxury for this Scepter Priest.
In truth.
Earlier outside the Upper Divine Hall, he still had the chance to choose death, to accept the protection of the laws of the Netherworld and enter the Netherworld, but clearly the Scepter Priest himself abandoned the protection and reception, still wanting to stay in the Human World and plot rebirth, which resulted in him having no chance now.
Only the Scepter Priest himself to blame.
Of course.
There are also many ordinary people who are innocent, Ian wants to save them, but he is unfamiliar with the ghost brides and the incarnating Evil God, taking reckless action might even cost him dearly.
Despite becoming a Raven and being immune to magic and divine art, this was just something Ian concluded before, he is not too sure if evil art could affect the Raven's body, also a creature of evil.
During Ian's observation.
He can see countless souls also being absorbed into the golden embryo, becoming part of the Evil God within the golden embryo, not perishing, so as long as the problem is resolved, the souls might be saved.
Ian is not a Gryffindor.
