Chapter 1096 346: Bountiful Harvest! Money Bag Explosion! (Part 2)
Of course.
Ian wasn't too eager to study this further, after all, he wasn't a magical entomologist. Ian's only interest in these beetles was to take the scarabs back as magic potion materials.
"Since I'm already here... I might as well take everything, can't leave with regrets." His gaze fell on the holes in the walls, and a bold idea emerged in his mind.
He rubbed his hands together and walked directly to the nearest hole, reaching in to feel around, "I'm not interested in antiques, but magic potion materials shouldn't be wasted."
Ian always found reasons for himself. His fingers explored within the hole for a moment and soon grabbed a handful of sticky eggs.
"Scarab eggs! Perfect freshness!" Ian's eyes lit up, "These are far more valuable than adults, they can be used as a base for the 'Rejuvenation' potion!"
The so-called 'Rejuvenation' potion certainly isn't an Elixir of Immortality; indeed, it has some life-extending effects, but its greatest function is to make the elderly appear young again.
It's just that body functions don't get younger along with the appearance; only the outer shell can be changed. Ian has been exploring advanced formulas for this potion.
If he could figure out a way to rejuvenate internal organs as well, then a relatively cheap version of the Elixir of Immortality would definitely impact the version requiring the Magic Stone.
It might even become obsolete.
Just like the choice between a thousand-dollar smartphone and a ten-thousand-dollar flip Nokia; those in need know what to choose—seeing many holes around still containing scarab eggs, Ian didn't hesitate to empty several nearby crannies, putting all the eggs he could find into his special preservation pouch.
The Master of Magic Potions heads out.
In every aspect, the accompanying containers are always comprehensive. Then, while busy in the Pharaoh's tomb, he discovered a glowing fungus clinging to the walls.
"Is this... 'Nether River Fluorescent Fungus'?!" Ian's voice trembled, "The legendary material for brewing the 'Undead Communication Potion' which was thought to be extinct!"
He dug through each hole in the walls like hunting for treasure, not even sparing the beetle droppings in the crevices—after all, scarab excrement is a top-grade alchemy catalyst.
Once he confirmed that there was no more value to squeeze out, Ian reluctantly stopped, looking at his bulging money bag and sighing contentedly.
"This trip was truly profitable." Now, in the chamber, only the central sarcophagus inlaid with turquoise was left. Ian clapped the dust off his hands and walked towards the sarcophagus.
His fingertips lightly brushed the hieroglyphs on the sarcophagus lid.
[Those who disturb the Pharaoh's sleep, shall be devoured by a thousand insects.]
This was one of the most common anti-tomb theft measures in Ancient Egypt, and indeed, there was a curse attached to the sarcophagus. However, a trivial curse like this was no match for the legendary Ian.
"Already been devoured, thank you." He insincerely apologized to the sarcophagus, first using his magic wand to clean off the curse, then slapped the sarcophagus lid!
Bam!
The heavy stone lid flew off, crashing into the wall and shattering in two.
Inside the sarcophagus, a mummy wrapped in bandages lay quietly, its hands crossed over its chest, with a palm-sized gold foil pressed in its palms—cursed gold foil!
Just as Ian was about to reach for it, the mummy suddenly opened its eyes!
"Knew this would happen." He rolled his eyes, pulling a small bottle of "Corpse-Dissolving Water" from his money bag with his other hand and splashed it directly onto the mummy's face.
—Sizzle!
The mummy let out a silent scream as the bandages rotted away, crumbling into a pile of ash.
"Did you seriously underestimate the value of Ian of the Nine Ancient Schools? Trying to scare me?" Ian casually picked up the gold foil, blowing off non-existent dust.
"All set."
Ian weighed the cursed gold foil in his hand, the gold sheet gleaming with an eerie red light under the torchlight.
By all rights, a normal person would immediately leave this gloomy pyramid after obtaining the target item, but the mind of a Master of Magic Potions was evidently different from ordinary folks.
"Since I'm already here..." Ian stuck to his earlier words, glancing around with eyes sparkling excitedly in the dark, "Wouldn't it be a loss if I don't clean this place out?"
Having acquired the cursed gold foil, Ian didn't leave immediately but started wandering around the pyramid tomb as if he were there to stock up rather than tomb raid. Of course, the affluent always liked to bury themselves with plenty of treasures, but Ian wasn't interested in gold and silver treasures, only in transcendental matters.
In the corner of the tomb chamber, several fist-sized black scorpions held up their venomous tails in vigilance. These were the Pharaoh's bred "Guardian Scorpions of Death God," said to have venom potent enough to kill an elephant in ten seconds with just a drop.
"This is a good find too!" Ian's eyes lit up as he took out a specially made glass jar from his money bag, "It's just right for the main ingredient of 'Strong Poison Neutralizer'."
He snapped his fingers, and a strand of silver-gray magic power coiled around the scorpions like silk. These fierce venomous creatures immediately lined up obediently and crawled into the jar, as if they were put under a binding spell.
The last scorpion king attempted to resist but was gently picked up by Ian with tweezers, holding it upside down by the tail.
"Wow, this poison sac is so full it's about to overflow."
He shook the scorpion with satisfaction, "Enough to refine three portions of 'Immune to All Poisons' potion."
Ancient resources are indeed richer compared to later generations; these things have almost become extinct in later years, relying solely on artificial cultivation. However, as everyone knows, artificially cultivated items can't match the potency of wild ones.
It's just like the dragons in dragon farms not being able to compete with wild giant dragons outside.
"Tap, tap, tap~"
The little wizard walked through the pyramid.
Passing through a narrow corridor, he discovered a stone chamber filled with jars and bottles. This was obviously a workspace for making mummies, with shelves full of various preservation potions.
"Resin from the Naquet tree, Natron salt... and a complete record of organ preservation techniques?" Ian was thrilled as he flipped through the papyrus scrolls, "These formulas have been lost in later generations!"
He unceremoniously stuffed all potion recipes into the money bag, not even sparing the preservative ingredients in the corner of the room. When he found a jar containing a perfectly preserved "Pharaoh's Liver," he whistled with delight.
"A perfect medicinal lead for heart disease treatment!" There's a reason Europe was once obsessed with consuming mummies; the Wizarding World does indeed have a tradition of using parts of mummies as potion ingredients.
It's unknown how this was passed down to the Muggle world by some wizard, leading to a wave historians deemed ignorant—a period when people believed eating mummies would yield magical effects, which of course wasn't true.
"The goods at Diagon Alley probably don't rival my collection now."
Ian continued his scavenging.
Indeed, the resting place of Pharaoh contained a trove of treasures; the most delightful discovery for Ian was the secret chamber concealed behind the murals. Pushing open the hidden door revealed a well-equipped ancient alchemy laboratory.
Bronze distiller, obsidian mortar, gem-encrusted balance... each tool was engraved with the mark of the Eye of Horus. The most attention-grabbing item was the thick "Sun Golden Scripture" on the lab table.
The cover was also inlaid with intricate constellations in gold.
"The legendary magic book."
The "Sun Golden Scripture" is an important text in Ancient Egyptian mythology, representing the Pharaoh's divine endorsement, akin to a "Divine Code," and is known alongside the "Book of the Undead" as one of Ancient Egypt's two major treasures.
The latter governs resurrection, whereas the former symbolizes "Solar Power" and the "Principle of Death." They have been lost in later generations, and yet Ian managed to find them using dubious means in ancient times.
"This is a real treasure." Ian carefully put away the "Sun Golden Scripture," feeling excited, "Ancient Egyptian alchemy systems and magic are very unique."
Many later magic spells were influenced by the Ancient Egyptian magic system.
This serves as proof that Ancient Egyptian magic was indeed exceptional. Without a second thought, Ian stuffed the entire book into the money bag, along with packing up the tools on the lab table.
When he attempted to move the half-person-high bronze furnace, it suddenly emitted a protesting hum.
"Oh? Is this an alchemy tool with spirituality?"
Ian felt even more delighted.
"Then it's a must-have."
At the bottom layer of the pyramid, Ian discovered a sealed dark chamber. The walls were covered with various cursed items: a blood-sucking bronze mirror, a burial shroud full of eyes, a Holy Grail continuously seeping black water... lots of them. When Ian finally walked out of the pyramid, his money bag was nearly overflowing.
It was filled with various rare materials and ancient secret texts.
Outside.
The sky was already showing the pale light of dawn.
"Goal accomplished, with a bonus heap of rare materials... This trip to Egypt started off well." The silhouette of Ian quickly vanished on the path to his next destination.
He's off to "borrow" that Nether River Oar from Anubis.
