Chapter 129: A conversation between Sovereigns
With the combination of skills that Druid Class Awakened has, it is extremely easy for them to locate their allies and spread news.
With the Level 5 passive skill, Nature Sense, they can detect nearby life, plants, and animals.
At Level 10 after their first Class Awakening to become a D Rank Initiate Druid, Druid Class Awakened create their Verdant Qi Well, forming a pact with the natural world. This made them even better natural trackers.
And with the Level 10 passive skill, Animal Empathy, they can communicate basic intent with beasts.
The combination of these awakened traits and skills meant that within less than 30 minutes after Samson, the Sovereign of the Druid Society woke up from his years-long slumber and gave instructions to his strongest subordinates, the instructions spread throughout the forest.
The news got to the Druids at distant parts of the Midnight Forest and even those outside it, and those Druids spread the news even further.
Within minutes, a great exodus out of the Midnight Forest started.
...
Thud... thud... thud...
A duo of hefty-looking Wolfkin with hunting Spears charged through the forest, running back towards the village as a massive Bear ran after them from behind but they were not scared.
That Bear was not a hostile Qi Beast, but rather it was a Druid.
It was this Druid that relayed the news to them that the forest was about to become dangerous soon and without hesitation, the Wolfkin brothers ran.
One of them had a game strapped over his shoulder, they killed a Deer during their hunt today.
But they were not thinking of the game as they ran.
Instead, they thought of the war. In their 20+ years of living since their parents gave birth to them, this was the first time that they were hearing of a war that was about to take place in the Midnight Forest.
The implication of this were far-reaching.
Afterall, it was not that other Awakened have never set their sights on the Midnight Forest. It was just that in history, the Sovereign of the Druid Society was always forced out of his slumber in the end and each time, he was forced to show the world the terror of a Sovereign.
Each time, it was never a war as the Sovereign of the Druid Society ended the threat within minutes.
But this time, for the Druids themselves to carry the news that a war was coming meant that things were different this time.
It meant that the threat this time was something that the World Sovereign couldn’t stop, and that was why both Wolfkin brothers were panicking.
They thought of their parents. ’Hope dad didn’t go out hunting today!’
’That old man... he should be staying at home!’
’I hope mom is ok’.
They also couldn’t help but think of him. ’Where is Theodore?’
And also, they felt suspicious.
Theodore disappeared almost 2 weeks ago, and now a rare war was about to happen in the Midnight Forest?
They wanted to believe that their brother was too insignificant to affect matters of such high level, but as brothers, they couldn’t help but want to overestimate their brother and think that maybe it was possible.
Does that mean that Theodore is still alive? They didn’t know.
Maybe he was still alive. They could only hope.
A few minutes later, they emerged out of the forest back to their Town. Somewhere along the line, the Bear that had been following them abandoned them.
The Town was chaotic as the townsfolk panicked.
The news hit differently. Some townsfolk still had confidence in the Druid Society to protect them, but others especially the rich households didn’t take the risk as they immediately got ready to migrate to other distant Towns.
As all of this happened and as people ran chaotically around the village, the Wolfkin brothers soon located their home and thankfully, their family was intact.
"You’re back". Their father, a frail-looking middle-aged Wolfkin said.
The eldest of the brothers heaved a sigh of relief before looking at his missing brother’s wife and daughter. "We’re leaving," he said.
"We’ll go to the next Town and wait for news from there".
"Janville is too close to the Midnight Forest".
"But the journey..." His father interjected.
"Don’t worry," the younger Wolfkin brother said immediately. "We’ll do our best to protect everybody, we’re strong".
After that, the entire family immediately got prepared to abandon the Town.
At the same time that this happened, deep in the heart of the Midnight Forest, a female Sovereign walked barefoot into the territory of the Druid Society.
For the first time in over 10 years since she migrated Ravenhelm to hide in the depths of the Midnight Forest, Seraphina Duskveil made a first public appearance in the territory of the Druid Society.
...
BZZZZZ!
The presence of the Succubus Sovereign saturated the atmosphere of the forest within the settlements like a vice grip as she threaded forward barefoot.
Wearing a long flowing black Witch robe, she walked forward barefooted, letting her silky black hair roll down her robe in thick long strands.
She was a Witch, but she didn’t look malevolent at all.
She looked otherworldly and beautiful as even with her Succubus wings suppressed and hidden inside her, her natural charm as a Succubus still prevailed, making the people in the tree houses steal glances at her repeatedly.
It was not just the people in the tree houses though, she had an unconscious attraction on sentient beings that even made certain smart Qi Beasts to be infatuated by her presence.
They were enamored by her, but they were also frightened by her.
And as they all stared at her with infatuation, her Emotion Feed trait made her absorb their qi through their affection, lust, and obsession.
Barely a minute after she walked into the settlement, a team of powerful A Rank Druids quickly surrounded her.
Seraphina Duskveil was unfazed though as her eyes quickly located their leader, she revealed a beautiful smile that made him freeze.
He only recovered after a few seconds then he immediately averted his gaze. "Stop that!" He growled in a low voice.
Seraphina smiled. "Stop what?"
She grinned. "Take me to your Sovereign".
"He’s busy..."
"Really?" She smiled in a seductive manner.
Then within an instant, her face morphed, turning from smiling into a chilling cold as she snarled. "Take me to him, NOW!"
BZZZZZZ!
Her aura erupted like a tsunami with sinister grey tendrils, slamming into them and pushing them backward.
Some of them coughed blood, and that was when he stepped out.
The mutated Fairy who was almost as tall as a Giant stepped out of a tree. He wore scanty primitive clothes that were weaved from tree bark and beast hide, leaving his thick and prominent muscles uncovered.
The moment he stepped out, he said. "Leave".
It was an order as with a bow, the team of powerful A Rank Awakened Druids immediately walked out.
Glamour!
The World Sovereign’s qi flared, leaving forest green tendrils in the air around him as he created an illusion that isolated him and the Witch Sovereign from the sight of his people.
He looked her in the eye and demanded. "What do you want?"
"Samson..." She called in a seductive manner.
But the World Sovereign was not having it as he snorted. "Seraphina, tell me what you want".
She tsked. "That’s not how to welcome a beautiful lady who visited you. We’ve been neighbors for 10 years now and you didn’t even visit once, what kind of man are you? Or are you gay?"
The World Sovereign’s forehead twitched slightly, then he repeated. "What do you want?"
"So boring". Seraphina chuckled, then her face became serious as she said. "You should have felt it, I’ve seen and I’ve interpreted the fate threads too".
"Zaratul and his little followers are coming for us".
"Not us, you". Samson pointed at immediately.
Hearing that, Seraphina scowled but the World Sovereign didn’t give a damn as he added impassively. "Zaratul was dormant, yet you took the initiative to go ruffle his feathers". He scoffed. "That was a stupid move, and when you make stupid moves you bear the consequences alone".
Seraphina’s scowl deepened.
He continued. "I don’t know why you came here but the Druid Society has always been neutral, and I’m not going to change that stance for no one".
"Letting you stay in the Midnight Forest for 10 years is the best of my hospitality, I can’t do more than that".
Seraphina glared at him. "You fool, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to murder that bastard once and for all".
"He’s weak!"
Samson glared back at her. "I don’t care".
She scoffed coldly. "Does that mean you won’t interfere in the war?"
"I won’t".
She stared at him for a few seconds, then she said. "You’re making a very foolish decision, and you’re going to regret it".
The World Sovereign folded his arms and just stared at her.
Seraphina clicked her tongue in annoyance then she turned around to leave.
As she left, her voice echoed. "You shall bear witness to the day that I take Zaratul’s head, and you shall gnash your teeth in regret for not taking part in an action that will be forever written in history".
She paused, then she spat. "You coward".
The World Sovereign didn’t say another word.
...
An hour later, Dreadmoor secretly arrived somewhere in the Midnight Forest and war exploded!
