Arcane: The Gods Want Me to Pick a Route

Chapter 227: Logan Surrounded by Gods

Kinl’s death plunged the Freljord into silence in an instant. Since the ancient battlefield, not a single god had fallen in the Freljord, and this sudden freezing rain left every demi-god of the land in mute shock.

A god had died.

After nearly ten thousand years, a god had finally died in the Freljord.

In all those tens of thousands of years, only one person had truly become divine in the Freljord, and that was Udyr, who possessed demi-god-level power through the strength of the spirit gods. But in the end, Udyr was not an ancient god.

He was human.

So in the face of Kinl’s death, Rilfen—who had escaped into the shadows through the power of his divine law—showed fear in both eyes, while Jie trembled against him.

What if the god being surrounded and attacked had been her?

She did not have an escape method as powerful as Rilfen’s. She would definitely have ended up just like Kinl, beheaded by that vicious purple-skinned woman.

And Rilfen was afraid as well. If he and Jie had not attacked White earlier and wounded her so she could not fully unleash her sealing arts, then if White had been in peak condition and used her sealing power with everything she had, there was no way Rilfen could have escaped from so many demi-gods alive.

After the two demi-gods, Rilfen and Jie, broke away from the battlefield and put some distance between themselves and the others, they instantly turned into spiritual forms and hid.

At the same time, Riven sensed Rilfen’s presence disappear. Her gaze turned toward the forest in the southwest, and she pointed in that direction before looking at Logan.

"Do you want me to chase him?"

Seeing Riven actually ask him, Logan thought for a moment and said, "Can you catch him?"

At that moment, Swain flew over with a complicated expression on his face. When he heard Riven asking Logan for instructions, his expression grew even more complicated.

He knew Logan had divine help, but... Swain had never imagined Logan’s backing would be this absurd. And this powerful god really did listen to Logan, even asking for his opinion.

That made it even harder for Swain to keep it together.

Just look at them.

Three gods far stronger than Janna.

That kind of power was enough to directly crush Noxus. In other words, if Logan wanted to, he could bring these three gods, plus Janna, and march on Noxus right now. Swain genuinely had no idea how he could possibly stop him.

"..." Riven was silent for a moment. The violet flames on her greatsword gradually receded, and the weapon called the Spirit Blossom Greatsword returned to a broken blade once the fire vanished. Holding the broken sword in one hand, she said, "I can’t catch him."

"He’s hiding in the shadows. If I had enough time, I could force him out. But the time I can stay here is limited, isn’t it?"

Logan glanced at the system panel, then nodded at Riven.

Riven had about an hour left she could remain here. Tristana had a bit more time than that, and Ahri still had two full hours of manifestation time left.

[Spirit Blossom Guardian Power]

Ahri location: Runeterra, remaining return time: 7013/s

Tristana location: Runeterra, remaining return time: 4501/s

Riven location: Runeterra, remaining return time: 3812/s

The unit was seconds. The reason the three gods had different remaining times was because they had used different amounts of power. Riven had contributed the most, so the stored Spirit Blossom points were draining fastest for her.

Ahri had basically been coasting. She had only just made one move and thrown out her orb.

Tristana, on the other hand, was playful by nature. She listened well enough to Logan, but her personality was what it was. During her fight with Jie, she had spent more time toying with her than anything else.

Riven was different. Even if she talked back to Logan once or twice, at her core she was still a soldier. If she accepted a mission, she would do everything in her power to complete it.

"So what do you need me to do next?" Riven asked again.

She was not like Tristana. Tristana had come out to have fun. Riven had come out to complete a task, and then... she needed Logan to help her find something.

"No rush. Let me see who we should hit next."

Riven still had another hour of usable time left. She went wherever she was pointed, and she did not slack off at all. Honestly, Logan really liked that kind of personality. Riven was qualified, obedient muscle.

If he needed help again in the future, Riven would definitely be his first pick.

After answering Riven, Logan lifted his head and looked north.

Riven looked north as well. Then she raised one long leg, stepped in front of Logan, narrowed her eyes, and violet fire flickered in the one eye visible beyond her hair as she raised her greatsword again.

Logan froze for a second, then reached out and patted Riven on the shoulder.

Her right shoulder was bare. Her skin was fair, her collarbone finely shaped, and beneath those elegant embroidered clothes, she looked strikingly beautiful. And when Logan touched her shoulder, the feel was surprisingly good too.

Honestly, Logan had assumed Riven would be very muscular, but the feedback under his hand was smooth skin and a lean, almost slender frame.

"No need to be tense. It’s a friend of mine," Logan said to her.

Riven lowered her sword, glanced at Logan, then stepped aside and returned to stand at his side.

Then Logan looked over at Tristana, only to find that she had already run off to play in the snow. The tiny girl made a little plop as she dove straight into a snowbank and happily rolled around in it.

In the sky, a rainbow bridge stretched between heaven and earth. One end of it landed on the ground before Logan, and then a dark-skinned woman in green robes walked down it. Behind her followed another woman—fair-skinned, plain-looking, but with excellent poise.

The one who had come was naturally Karma.

But who was the other woman?

Karma and the woman descended to the ground. When Karma saw Swain, her expression shifted slightly, while Swain simply closed his eyes in calm repose, not even looking at her.

Karma looked at Logan, then at Riven, then at Tristana, who was still tunneling through the snow like a little mole. She drew a deep breath, and a complicated emotion filled her dark green eyes.

Another god from the Spirit Blossom realm...

By all logic, as Ionia’s prophet and someone connected to the spirit of Ionia itself, if gods from the Spirit Blossom realm came into Runeterra, then she should have been the one to guide them.

So why had the Spirit Blossom realm chosen a Zaunite instead?

Still, one small thing gave Karma some comfort.

At least Logan had the black hair and black eyes of an Ionian, with an Eastern appearance.

Otherwise, Karma really would have been miserable over this.

"Logan, it feels like I didn’t really manage to help you," Karma said quietly.

Logan hurriedly replied, "Don’t say that. If you hadn’t come, Janna and the others would’ve been in danger, and Lissandra would’ve had huge problems too."

Logan meant that sincerely. If Karma had not stepped in to stop the god coming from the northern sea, then once the ancient gods converged, Janna would have had her spirit body shattered, and Swain most likely would never even have shown up.

And because Karma had appeared, Logan had gained enough time to go into Spirit Blossom and recruit gods as hired muscle.

"Who is this?" Logan asked curiously, looking at the woman behind Karma.

Logan’s current strength had not yet reached the level of a demi-god, but with the divine law power he now controlled, he was not far off. After thinking it over, he felt that the current him could probably exchange blows with Jax. Whether he could win or not was another matter, but he could definitely fight him.

And Logan would not lose quickly, either. In fact, Logan even felt that if he transformed using emotion points, he might actually have a chance... of beating Jax?

That was Jax.

Someone Logan had once never even dared imagine reaching.

Everyone familiar with League lore knew one thing: even though Jax was mortal, he possessed the power to slay gods. And now Logan felt that the divine law Jax had grasped was—

Martial mastery.

If Jax had truly carved out that path in Runeterra, if Runeterra itself acknowledged that path of his and he ascended through it, then Jax’s strength might surge once again, making him one of the top demi-gods in all of Runeterra.

A thousand years ago, he could already battle Ascended.

How refined had his skill become after another thousand years?

Logan did not even want to guess.

And that was exactly why Logan, who was now not far from becoming a demi-god himself, could sense the immense magical power in the woman standing behind Karma.

In terms of sheer aura, she was not on Riven’s level. But her magic was unbelievably deep. In the Spirit Blossom realm, only Ahri, Syndra, Evelynn, Soraka, and Thresh could firmly suppress her in that regard.

Karma shook her head, indicating that she did not know either.

"The Seal Sister," the woman said, introducing herself first.

Logan paused, then instinctively said, "The Seal Sister who brought the sea to Ornn and helped shape the Freljord into what it is today?"

The Seal Sister froze too. She raised her head and looked at Logan, then nodded in surprise.

Logan asked curiously, "What brings you here?"

The Seal Sister answered, "I came to help Lissandra. I do not like Lissandra as a person, but under Anivia’s witness, I signed a pact with Avarosa. I am one of the gods aligned with the Three Sisters."

"I understand." Logan smiled.

So that meant—

She was on their side.

"Logan, what should we do now?" Karma asked him.

She had come to the Freljord because of Logan, so naturally she wanted his opinion.

At the same moment, Swain also opened his eyes and looked at Logan. The meaning was obvious.

Seeing all this, the Seal Sister pressed her lips together. Logan was actually the weakest person present in terms of raw strength, yet these gods... all seemed to listen to him?

That shocked her.

Back in the era of the Three Sisters, even they had not had this many gods under them, had they?

And the Seal Sister’s relationship with the Three Sisters had only ever really been one of cooperation. She had joined their side because of Anivia. In a sense, the Three Sisters had relied on her.

But this human in front of her?

A human man whose strength was far below that of the Three Sisters, yet he was surrounded by a whole crowd of gods.

Ahri, Tristana, Riven, Karma, Swain, Janna...

That was six gods.

And not one of them was weak.

If this man wanted to... he could absolutely seize the Freljord right now and build a power of his own there.

That left the Seal Sister with a trace of worry.

She looked toward White. Sensing the Seal Sister’s gaze, the snow fox turned and shook her head at her.

"How about this," Logan said. "Riven, you go west with Janna and help Udyr. Tristana, Karma, Ahri—you’re with me. Swain, I need to trouble you to go east, find Sejuani—you’ll recognize her—and protect Jinx and Sejuani’s group."

"Where are we going?" Tristana asked the moment she heard Logan call her name, popping her head out of the snowbank and looking at him with sparkling eyes.

Logan turned toward Ursine Mountain and smiled.

"We’re going to deal with the biggest problem."

With that, Logan was the first to rise into the air.

Swain also flew east toward the forest.

Riven looked at Janna, while Janna fluttered her wings a little nervously. What kind of joke was this...? Janna had personally witnessed Riven split Kinl’s body apart with a single strike, and since they were both technically "birds," Janna instinctively found Riven a little scary.

So she wanted Riven to go first, but Riven only looked at her in silence.

Then, after a brief pause, Riven said, "Not moving?"

"Moving, moving!" Janna said quickly, hurrying into the air.

Logan, Karma, Tristana, and Ahri then all flew toward Ursine Mountain, heading for where Lissandra and Volibear were fighting.

The Seal Sister and White the Snow Fox stayed behind.

Logan had not tried to command either of them. These two were native gods of the Freljord, and they had no reason to follow his orders. Besides, the combat power they already had was enough.

Lissandra could fight Volibear to a standstill.

And once Ahri arrived, along with Karma and Tristana, the balance would immediately tip to Logan’s side.

Come on.

No matter how strong Volibear was, even at his peak he could not possibly fight four gods alone, could he?

Especially when both Ahri and Lissandra were exceptionally powerful demi-gods.

A few dozen seconds later, Logan and the others reached Ursine Mountain.

The sea ice had shattered, and Ursine Mountain had completely vanished, leaving behind only a bare little island just poking above the surface of the sea, blackened everywhere with scorch marks.

Lissandra was still in her witch-like form. She turned back, saw Logan, and instantly felt joy rise in her heart.

The enormous Volibear, on the other hand, went dark-faced at once.

Gods surrounded Logan.

Karma, Ahri, Tristana, White the Snow Fox, the Seal Sister.

"Logan, kill him!" Lissandra shrieked.

And just as Logan was about to agree and tell Ahri to help Lissandra, Volibear—who had been imposing and fearless just moments ago, his body massive beyond measure—suddenly shrank on the spot. Then, right in front of Logan and the gathered gods, Volibear turned and transformed into a mass of lightning-shadow, shooting straight toward the storm clouds overhead.

"Volibear?!"

Forget Logan—even Lissandra was stunned by what she saw.

The bear spirit who had looked so ferocious and fearless just moments before had now turned and fled without hesitation.

The moment she saw Volibear running, Lissandra struck at once. She clapped her hands together, and dark ice beneath her surged upward as a gigantic coffin of ice descended from the sky, vast enough to blot out the heavens, crashing toward the fleeing mass of lightning.

"Ahri, Tristana, Karma—go!" Logan shouted too.

The three gods attacked at once.

Ahri’s pink hair turned white, her nails lengthened, and foxlike markings appeared on her cheeks. Her alluring body flashed forward as she sent the orb in her hand flying toward the streak of lightning-shadow.

Tristana hugged her purple gourd and blew out a breath. Instantly, massive violet flames burst into existence, covering a radius of a thousand meters around the lightning-shadow and burning the dark mass within.

Karma swung her fan. Behind her, the spirit dragon shone with green light. With one strike of the fan, a massive bolt of concentrated green power, like a great arrow formed of living ink, pierced toward the black lightning-shadow.

White the Snow Fox and the Seal Sister attacked as well.

One raised a little paw and sent out several spirit sigils, attempting to seal off Volibear’s route of escape, while the other drew upon the Ice Sea itself, summoning a towering spiral of seawater more than a thousand meters high that roared toward Volibear.

Logan attacked too.

Wind sword in hand, he saw the formerly green blade become covered in strange patterns, the sword itself turning pink-white.

His sword-drawing strike was ready.

Logan swung.

And Volibear?

The war-spirit of the Freljord...

At that moment, he had only one thought in his head.

Run.

What kind of joke was this?

Volibear loved battle, but he was not stupid!

If he did not run now, was he supposed to stay and wait to die?

Yes, he wanted to die in battle.

But he did not want to throw his life away like an idiot!

What he wanted was a bloody fight between evenly matched opponents, not to get jumped and beaten to death by a gang of powerful gods!

So, ignoring every attack striking his body and enduring the pain tearing through him, Volibear fled like mad.

And at the exact same time, Logan wore a huge grin, thrilled out of his mind.

He swung his sword, but the speed of his sword-wind could not keep up with Volibear’s retreat, and he failed to hit him.

Even so, Logan still burst out laughing and shouted:

"Damn, we’re strong as hell!"

Were they not strong?

Of course they were strong.

They had Volibear running for his life.
