Chapter 252: Epidemic (7)
Ayen told what he just recalled to the two espers. If he could not understand, then he would just let the two help him comprehend what was happening.
The two did not immediately say their opinion and thought for a moment. Devion and Khal soon exchanged glances. Ayen watched them and noticed that they seemed to have the same conjectures.
"What is it?"
The two looked at Ayen. Devion motioned for Khal to speak, which the other gladly accepted.
"I’m certain that curse is causing this."
Devion nodded at him. Khal then continued as both listened to him.
"Those people following the crowd are afflicted by this curse. We can’t tell what curse it is. To be able to affect so many people, it must be a higher-level one."
Ayen agreed to them. It was not actually hard to understand that those people were running away from the people calmly following them, who were affected by a curse. However, it almost blew his mind to know that curses were able to affect so many people at once.
Was it a level higher than the one in Devion’s subconscious?
Khal read the question in Ayen’s face and answered them.
"I don’t think it’s a higher level than the bastard in Dveion’s head. There’s only one explanation for now. This curse type might be something that can spread like a disease."
Devion, who was only listening, expressed his agreement.
"I thought so too. We’re not clear about different curse types, but we came across one time about a marionette curse."
"I remember that." Khal nodded.
Devion looked at Ayen and explained. "The marionette curse can create an area where everyone affected by its curse will turn into a doll. Of course, it was a lower-level curse and couldn’t affect espers higher than B-class."
He continued. "The situations you encountered are somewhat similar. However, we can’t say for sure unless we investigate about it."
When it came to course talks, Devion rarely put on his solemn expression, and he spoke more seriously, too.
"I don’t know where it is," Ayen made it clear.
"It doesn’t matter," Khal assured him. "I’ll have my men look around for the news."
Devion smirked. "How convenient to have you, huh?"
"Of course." Khal winked at him.
Ayen’s worries always vanished as soon as they had already decided on something, and watching them make flirt made it all the more assuring.
What they needed to do with Ayen’s dream was decided just like that. Although Ayen had yet to determine what his involvement was about, that curse was for him to have the so-called subconscious warning.
Was it because he could purify it, or more than that?
Ayen could not dwell on it deeper when the closed door suddenly opened from the inside and two unfamiliar guides appeared. They seemed not to expect their presence, as both of their expressions showed an unconcealed shock.
It was even more so when they quickly realized who their visitor was, the famed Khal and Devion.
Ayen observed the two: it was a blonde woman and a man with a somewhat similar build to Lucian. They froze where they stood, unable to think about whether to go back inside or approach the three.
Of course, they did not have any choice. The three were unwilling to disturb them inside the room, but now that they were already awake, Khal had no intention to wait any longer.
It just so happened that he had something to do after this.
Khal smiled at them, though it did not really reach his eyes.
"We have something to ask the two of you."
It was not forceful, but for the two guides, it was no different from being one. The moment they saw the SS-class espers, they already knew their fate.
Paula and Malcom held hands, as if to support each other, before they walked slowly towards the couch. They did not dare dally, but every step was too heavy.
Ayen did not take his eyes off them. They seemed to be A-class guides; the mana around them was abundant. It only proved that while they were imprisoned, they did not suffer.
If anything, they looked particularly well-fed.
The two guides cautiously sat across from the three. Ayen noticed the two glanced at him, but they soon averted their gaze. Ayen had once again witnessed his two espers’ effect on others once they recognized Khal and Devion.
Khal and Devion did not say anything to calm the two guides. While they had their principle to not hurt guides, that did not mean they would take this interrogation easily because they were one.
And not like the two would calm down if they did so.
"Your colleagues next door," Devion started, not elaborating much. However, the two stiffened at hearing his voice. "I know you have an idea why we’ve captured you."
The two guides remained silent, holding each other’s hands tight. Ayen narrowed his eyes and observed them as the two continued their questions.
"What are you doing at that place? Searching for the town?" Devion did not ask if the two knew their headquarters. The two would not answer him, anyway.
About this, he wanted to know if they wanted to capture Aegi, the anomaly town, or whatever designs they had for him.
Ayen’s expression became serious.
The two guides still expressed their shock, despite the fact that they were captured in that very place. They pressed their lips together and clearly had no intention to answer.
"You’ll experiment with an anomaly just like you’re all doing with curses?" Ayen was the one who spoke this time. His exclamation earned everyone’s attention. His tone was incredibly blunt.
Khal and Devion twitched their lips. Perhaps because they seemed to have seen the Ayen of their first meeting. And they were already accustomed to Ayen of today.
However, this Ayen was still so intimidatingly sexy.
The two stared at Ayen deeply.
Ayen ignored their heated gaze; his expression almost dropped because of this. these two...
The guides snapped their heads in shock, looking at Ayen. Fortunately, the two espers still knew when to put restraint on their desires.
"Don’t be shocked. This is a simple matter to us." Devion shrugged. His arrogant tone filled the whole place.
Now, Ayen was again reminded that Devion also had this side.
