Chapter 202: Curse Guiding (2)
Khal’s expression turned solemn, although a hint of relief flickered in his eyes.
"What is it about?" Devion approached them, stood by Khal’s side, and looked over the two S-class espers before glancing again at Khal.
Khal did not hide it either.
"About the curse..." Khal refrained from saying too much. He trusted his subordinates, but Ayen’s uniqueness, especially about his potential ability to cure curses, was best known only to the three of them.
Devion quickly understood it as well, his expression turning serious just like Khal’s.
Farrah and Calson did not interrupt them and stood respectfully before them.
Khal reached out and snaked his arm around Devion’s waist, patting his sides to assure him.
"Everything’s going to be okay," he whispered as he leaned into his ear.
Both of them were worried, more than anticipating any results. This was the reason they postponed testing Ayen’s ability to increase the safety measures.
Khal already did his part; he could only hope it was more than enough preparation.
If he were to ask... Khal truly wanted this. For every possibility, he was willing to cling to it. Whatever chances they got, they should hold onto them.
Exhausting his reserves to lower the dangers, Khal would even be willing to sacrifice any treasure he had accumulated for that low chance.
No matter what.
Ayen had no way of knowing this yet. Lucian had already sensed their arrival and put down his phone; his expression had a trace of worry.
He could not blame Lucian or Nolan for being this worried either. Their espers were S-class espers and had experience fighting monsters of similar rank before, but it was still a different story if they were fighting against human espers.
Monsters, aside from the few, did not have intelligence, but humans could use any tactics at their disposal to win. Ranks were harder to surpass, but on the scale of this war, individual prowess was not enough to be certain of victory.
"Don’t worry too much. The commander general won’t be defeated that easily," Georgina comforted.
Lucian coughed slightly and looked at the blonde woman, startled.
"Who said I’m worried about him?"
Ayen almost rolled his eyes at him. Everyone here noticed it already; what was the point of denying it?
Keeran giggled slightly. He and Lucian had already clicked these days, and often, the source of noise in the group.
"I already noticed it. But Lucian’s a bit of a tsundere, don’t you all think?" Keeran smiled at Ayen, who obviously did not care, before she finally shifted to Georgina, who generously agreed to her.
For some reason, she had been fawning over Keeran. Ayen narrowed his eyes, but as he was about to think more, his attention was grabbed by Lucian exaggeratedly exclaiming at Keeran’s statement.
"Tsun...dere? Keeran! Don’t spout nonsense!" Lucian pointed at Keeran, looking so offended.
Keeran only laughed at him.
"Look. He totally is." When she was about to laugh again, her face twisted slightly as she drooped her body and touched her side where a wound was still in the healing stage.
Ayen’s expression shifted slightly.
"Keeran," he called in a stern voice.
Their relationship is less like a friend’s but more like a parent’s nowadays. Keeran had become energetic again only a few days after arriving here, but she was still recovering and had to rest.
Keeran sat properly and smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry. I’ll control my laughter."
Georgina smiled at her, endeared by her apology. Ayen could only nod; it was not like he could change Keeran’s personality. And why would he do that? The firm reason he wanted to hide her here was to protect that very personality.
Lucian ignored Keeran and stood up; he did not forget to bring his phone.
"Why? Want to escape?" Keeran teased.
Usually, Lucian could counter her and even win; after all, Keeran was talkative but not good at arguments. However, Lucian was really worried to care.
Lucian did not even answer with words and only flashed a middle finger to her. "Hop off my dick," he said and went to his room.
The moment that he entered his room, Nolan got off his and looked clueless. "What happened?"
Keeran only smiled. It was okay to make fun of Lucian being tsundere when he was around. Since he had already left, Keeran dropped this issue and instead tried to tease Nolan.
Nolan was more cunning than Lucian, who was as simple-minded as Keeran. He knew how to handle both. It was not long before Nolan defeated Keeran and began teasing her instead.
Ayen lingered for a while before he decided to leave. If he guessed it right, the two espers were already done and might have already returned to their place.
But it seemed he did not need to, as he just stood at the elevator when it opened and the two espers appeared.
Ayen blinked at them, who looked serious.
"Did something happen?" He could not help but ask.
Devion looked at him and behind him; seeing he was alone, he walked to Ayen and held his hand, dragging him inside the elevator.
"We’ll talk in our place," he whispered.
Ayen turned to Khal, who nodded.
It was not long, as they only lived on the next floor.
Once inside their place, Khal put a storage box on the table. It looked ordinary, but the mana emanating from it gave him pressure.
The three of them sat in the living room as Ayen looked at the two, waiting for them to explain.
"Inside this box are miraculous items of various effects." Khal did not open it immediately. He looked Ayen in the eye. face unusually serious. "But there are similarities among them. They are related to wavelength defense."
It sounded odd, even absurd. However, they were more known for what they called.
Rare soul enhancer items.
Khal did not say it as such because they were more inclined to believe that wavelengths were related to the soul, as the latter could not be proven if they did exist, but wavelengths were.
They did not need any more healing items; if something happened, they would have had a few. The jar was there as well. However, healing wavelengths, their very core or soul, were extremely sensitive.
If something goes wrong, both Devion’s and Ayen’s wavelengths might be damaged. No healing effects could be used there, so they needed defense more than healing in this situation.
