The X Guide

Chapter 178: To Vent One’s Anger (1)

They were already rushing, but they still took about a day to arrive. This was Liz not resting even a bit. Fortunately, it was an S-class monster, and the two espers provided it with meat as it continued to move.

Ayen’s expression grew intense as time passed, so the tension could already be felt. Khal and Devion did not try to talk with him either, letting him be lost in his thoughts.

They could distract him, but it was better for Ayen to calm down instead. That was indeed the best, as Ayen’s emotions calmed down somewhat; the rage and darkness within him retreated.

However, when the city was already in their sight, Ayen’s emotions surged again. He clasped his hand, composing himself. There were already sorts of scenarios in his head, which he suppressed, but some still managed to mess with his mind.

Ayen paused and looked at the two who were sitting at his sides. Liz stopped moving at their behest.

"Liz’s too eye-catching." Devion grinned at him. "We’ll stop by here. Khal will put barriers around her."

Khal nodded and brushed Ayen’s hair, giving him a kiss at the crown of his head. There was no need for words, which might become empty if they were proven to be lies.

He glanced at Devion, who nodded, already understanding what he meant with his gaze alone.

Devion lifted Ayen and carried him down Liz. Ayen instinctively put his arms around his neck. The two watched as Khal began to instruct Liz on the direction they would leave her.

As usual, Liz was attentive, but most of her attention was on the monster meat in her mouth.

"We can’t leave her unattended. She won’t escape, but she might destroy a city if she roams free." Devion’s tone was playful, but Ayen knew he was serious.

Liz seemed docile; she even listened to Ayen’s words sometimes, but she was still an S-class monster and destructive in nature. Without their supervision, Liz would definitely create trouble everywhere.

Khal finished his barrier in no time. It was invisible to the naked eye and mostly factored into Liz’s senses, which would remind her of not going beyond what was allowed.

As for its safety? They were not worried. This barrier was about protecting the outside world from her.

They did not linger in the area; the two espers nodded to each other and continued moving. They still had a considerable distance from the city, but it would only take a few minutes at most for them.

Ayen tightened his hold on Devion, and the esper carried him while he sped off towards the city. Khal was not far behind them. They paused as they reached where the government had established their camp.

So far, none sensed the two. After all, if they did not want to reveal their presence, it would be hard to sense their arrival. Except one person, though. However, this person also did not know that it was Khal and Devion, but the foreboding feeling suddenly suffocated him somehow.

And this was when everything was not directed at him.

"What’s wrong?" A voice sounded behind him. Jarred wiped the sweat on his forehead and the back of his neck. He even felt his back starting to be drenched in sweat.

Jarred looked up and saw Georgina; her left hand was wrapped in gauze and a slight bruise at her left chin. His lips twitched at the sight.

It had been a few hours since Georgina suddenly pulled the aggro of the clan forces, and they had to fight the other side to get Georgina out of the city, who was carrying an unconscious woman on her back.

Jarred realized then why Georgina could escape without the opponents realizing her infiltration was busted. What was more, her combat power was halved because she could not fight in close combat when she was protecting someone.

She could only escape.

Fortunately, Georgina was only injured to this degree, which was not as serious for espers.

"Remember what I said about my ominous premonition?" Jarred wiped his forehead again. "It arrived. I’m sure... it has now reached the city."

The tension in his shoulders increased so much that he had to stretch and massage to loosen them.

Georgina nodded, her eyes fixed on the bed before them. Jarred also glanced at it, his expression becoming strange.

"It’s not pointing at us, why worry?" Georgina casually said, not that worried. While she had a point, Jarred could not help but do so when it might affect this war.

This was unpredictable to begin with, and if another force joined this early, everything would be more chaotic.

Jarred sighed, not planning to share his worries when the woman clearly did not care. He would have to wait for the Commander General to tell him about this.

For now, his attention was once again drawn by the guide Georgina risked her life to save. Jarred was also mad that the clan dared to injure an association guide, but he might not do the same as her.

"She hasn’t woken up yet," Jarred muttered. "Why did you save her?"

Georgina blinked and watched the rise and fall of the woman’s chest, indicating she was merely sleeping.

"Do I need a reason to save someone injured?"

Jarred’s lips twitched. Okay, she had a point. He did not want to argue when it came from Georgina’s eccentric records, doing whatever she wanted.

Just as they were talking, a commotion began outside.

Jarred frowned and glanced in that direction.

"Is this the clan again?" Ever since Georgina saved the guide, the frequency of the clan harassing them had increased.

Georgina’s beautiful face quickly turned fierce.

"Those bitches." They were disrupting Keeran’s rest.

Both espers left the room and went outside to determine what the issue was, but they suddenly paused. The commotion came from the soldiers and the bewildered espers at the sudden visitors.

Counting, they had ten members, and most appeared to be bodyguards and encircled the three men inside.

"State your purpose!"

"This is the government camp. Please state your purpose."

Some repeated again. They could not attack, as there was a primal fear that suddenly sprang in their hearts, preventing them from taking action.

Jarred’s focus was on the men at the center who were also looking at him. Because he was in an elevated area, he could clearly see them.

Huh? What were they doing here?
