Chapter 781 - 6: The Rampaging Hairy Rhinoceros (Part 2)

Impatiently swinging its tail, the female Hairy Rhinoceros issued a low roar to warn the Camel Mimics and the group of small things behind them—

"Get off my territory!"

Whoosh~Whoosh~Whoosh~

The Camel Mimic was completely clueless; it ignored the warning from the Hairy Rhinoceros and charged straight ahead.

This behavior was nothing short of provocation, thoroughly angering the Hairy Rhinoceros.

Without gathering strength, it started its charge without warning.

Like a train engine at full power, the Camel Mimic, weighing less than a third of the female Hairy Rhinoceros, was knocked to the ground, and then, like a torn sack, was pushed by the Hairy Rhinoceros’s head, leaving a deep trail on the grassland.

The Camel Mimic was not a native species of Eurasia; it was brought here by the Space-Time Administration Bureau, unaware of the might of the Hairy Rhinoceros.

As an "old friend" of the Hairy Rhinoceros, the Cave Hyenas were very much aware of how formidable this creature was.

On the prairie, there were very few creatures they dared not provoke, and the name of the Hairy Rhinoceros was on that list.

Though the Cave Hyenas were larger and stronger than modern spotted hyenas, the Hairy Rhinoceros still had a crushing advantage in size.

Moreover, the Hairy Rhinoceros possessed thick fur and a thick skin underneath, giving it defensive capabilities superior to modern rhinos. Facing an adult Hairy Rhinoceros, even if Cave Hyenas took the risk of being trampled to death to bite, the result was usually negligible.

Realizing that the Hairy Rhinoceros had gone mad, the Cave Hyenas quickly turned around and fled.

But the Hairy Rhinoceros, once enraged, was not easy to appease.

Its small eyes were almost blood-red, and without caring which Cave Hyena first trespassed into its territory, it straightened its tail and picked one at random to charge at.

A giant beast weighing over a ton moved across the winter prairie; the heavy footsteps sounded like a beating drum, audible from a distance.

Chen Zhou had just encircled the wild asses with the Three-headed Saw-toothed Tiger, but before he could make a move, the herd was startled by the mad Hairy Rhinoceros and began to flee in a direction away from it.

Tiger First was ambushing there and immediately sprang into action as the prey rushed over.

But its size was ultimately too small; it could only pounce on the preys’ backs before they accelerated, or leap from below to bite their throats. It couldn’t overpower them as an adult Saw-toothed Tiger could.

Watching the flashing hooves in front of him, instinct warned Tiger First not to attack, as a single kick would be its end.

So it swallowed back the roar about to burst from its throat, halted abruptly, and stood still, watching the herd run away.

Tiger Second and Tiger Third, charging from the other directions, also dared not confront so many wild asses’ hooves—

The main force in hunting was Chen Zhou; without him launching an initial attack and wounding the prey, the three would basically be unable to deal with large, healthy prey. Catching squirrels or mice was barely their specialty.

...

"Damn it, when people are unlucky, even drinking cold water can choke them."

Having already drawn out his shuriken and bending forward, moving slowly, waiting for a closer range before making a move, Chen Zhou could naturally see what had happened and cursed under his breath.

Of course, what made him feel unlucky wasn’t just the alarmed herd, but also the damned Cave Hyena—

It was heading towards him with the enraged Hairy Rhinoceros.

Under the Hairy Rhinoceros’s hooves, muddy water mixed with shards of ice splattered.

The Cave Hyena, in a panic, fled directly toward Chen Zhou.

"Run!"

He shouted to alert the Three-headed Saw-toothed Tiger.

Chen Zhou was confident he could handle this giant beast, but the little ones didn’t have the strength to resist. At critical moments, it was better for them to get away to avoid getting caught up in danger.

Besides, in hunting such a massive creature, the small Saw-toothed Tigers wouldn’t be of much help; even an adult Saw-toothed Tiger could be injured during the hunt.

As it stands, Chen Zhou had no second shot of Regeneration Injection at hand; once the Saw-toothed Tigers are injured, they would most likely lose their lives.

...

The Three-headed Saw-toothed Tiger, having been with humans for so long, was quite obedient.

Upon hearing the "Leader’s" command, they immediately dispersed, leaving Chen Zhou alone to face the Hairy Rhinoceros with his knife.

The fleeing Cave Hyena didn’t expect any creature would not flee upon seeing a Hairy Rhinoceros.

It ran towards Chen Zhou without hesitation, baring its teeth halfway, as if to threaten this unwise human to hurry and dodge.

Chen Zhou’s response was a shuriken—

The distance was truly close. The cold glimmer of the flying weapon flashed in the Cave Hyena’s eyes for an instant before deeply embedding into its chest.

A sharp pain suddenly emerged in the hyena’s chest, making it difficult to breathe and even harder to take the next step, causing its speed to drop sharply.

During an escape, any hesitation or waiting is deadly.

The relentless Hairy Rhinoceros lowered its head and quickly caught up with the hyena. With its thick neck moving like a triggered mechanism, it instantly flung the hyena into the air.

In this pause, the galloping force halted momentarily, almost stopping in place.

As a giant beast weighing over a ton, once the Hairy Rhinoceros stops, reaching a sprint speed of 45 kph again would be difficult, requiring ample strength and a relatively lengthy acceleration period.

And what Chen Zhou feared was precisely the terrifying power of the charging Hairy Rhinoceros.

Once the Hairy Rhinoceros voluntarily abandoned this advantage, it would lose most of its potential threat, becoming an easier target than a mammoth.

...

The Cave Hyena that flew over ten meters landed with a "thud" on the ground, leaving a mark on the snow.

It wasn’t dead yet and struggled to get up.

The Cave Hyenas, with muscular builds much lighter than Camel Mimics, and much sturdier limbs than the Camel Mimics’ slender ones, were natural predators chosen by nature, boasting a resistance to damage much stronger than most herbivores, along with remarkably tenacious vitality.

If only flung by the Hairy Rhinoceros and not pierced by its horn, this level of impact wouldn’t be lethal to a Cave Hyena.

However, the truly deadly aspect was the shuriken thrown by Chen Zhou, which pierced through the hyena’s skin to remain in its lung.

As the Cave Hyena was flung, the metal shuriken, influenced by the kinetic energy, moved inside the hyena’s lung, worsening the injury and directly impairing its ability to breathe.

It opened its mouth wide, as if trying to gulp more air.

But no matter how hard it tried, all it felt was the chill of the snow.

So it could only widen its eyes in despair, watching the Hairy Rhinoceros approach step by step, raising its cylindrical, sturdy front hoof...

As the Hairy Rhinoceros’s foot came down, the entire body of the hyena collapsed, flattened into a "skin rug".

After taking out two intruders in its territory, the Hairy Rhinoceros’s rage had not subsided.

The bloody scent beneath it instinctively disgusts this massive herbivore, so it turned away in disdain, fixing its gaze on that unfamiliar, incomprehensible creature—

Chen Zhou.

...

Once again, two puffs of white vapor sprayed from the Hairy Rhinoceros’s nostrils, reminding Chen Zhou unbidden of the steamboat he had crafted with his own hands.

When the coal in the boiler burns fully, water boils, and the whistle blows, the chimney releases steam such as this.

Except the vapor from the Hairy Rhinoceros’s nostrils wasn’t hot enough, and its attitude was far less friendly than that of a steam engine.

Clenching the knife in his hand, Chen Zhou’s mind involuntarily filled with all the blade techniques he had recently learned.

Should he hack, chop, sweep, slice, hook, flick, or slash...

Or perhaps use the hidden step, insert hand over the top, or cover with snowflakes...
