Chapter 1316 - 1311: Misunderstanding
"No way, I've never worn a skirt my whole life, and I'm not willing to wear that. It must be really uncomfortable." Song Xiaojia looked distressed and promptly refused, then pulled Lai Xiaole trying to leave.
"Hehe, that won't do. Since we're already here, we definitely have to give it a try. Otherwise, it would be a waste of our visit. Come on, break through a bit, make a self-breakthrough." Lai Xiaole forcibly dragged Song Xiaojia into the store.
At the entrance of the store, Song Xiaojia finally broke free from Lai Xiaole's hand, stomped her foot, and said, "Oh, I really can't wear a skirt. I'm not suited for it."
"There's no such thing as being or not being suited. Besides, you said you never wore one growing up, so how do you know you're not suited for it?" Lai Xiaole didn't care much and dragged Song Xiaojia inside the store.
"Welcome!" Originally, Song Xiaojia wanted to say something to Lai Xiaole, but the store's staff already greeted them with sweet smiles, making it hard for her to oppose.
"Excuse me, sir, what style does this lady prefer?" A girl who looked like a college student asked.
"Just any business suit will do." Song Xiaojia replied instantly.
Hearing Song Xiaojia's words, the girl was at a loss, not knowing what to say.
"Don't listen to her, just bring out some skirts for her to try on. She can't pick, and I, well, naturally can't either. You just make her look pretty." Lai Xiaole said grinning.
"So you're saying I'm not pretty like this, right? Just give me any business suit!" Song Xiaojia shot a glare at Lai Xiaole, looking somewhat annoyed.
"How could that be? You're pretty like this too, I meant that they should use skirts to make you look even prettier. Also, you have to try them on, hurry up. As for business suits, can't you see they don't have any here?" Lai Xiaole laughed, then turned to the girl, "I'm leaving her to you. Make sure to dress her up to my satisfaction, or I won't pay."
"Don't worry, sir, we'll make sure the lady looks stunning." The girl called out, and then a few more girls came over, together pulling Song Xiaojia into the fitting room.
Before long, Song Xiaojia came out wearing a red skirt.
She kept twisting, feeling very awkward.
"Hehe, not bad, we'll take this one. It's simply top-notch. Look at you, still moving and all, like an enchantress. I don't think even those famous models can compare to you." Lai Xiaole laughed and said, "Miss, bring her some other styles to try on."
"Okay, sir."
The girls were indeed very excited, hard to come by such a straightforward customer; they naturally moved quickly.
At first, Song Xiaojia was very resistant. But eventually, she got used to it, almost like surrendering to her fate, letting the girls do as they pleased.
"This one's nice too, wrap it up!"
"Not bad, wrap it up!"
"Haha, it seems you're born to wear skirts, not business suits, wrap it up too!"
"..."
Finally, after choosing eighteen skirts, Lai Xiaole ended the spree.
Coming out of the fitting room, Song Xiaojia felt utterly exhausted, weak, and tired to death.
After paying, they were ready to put the skirts in the car and then grab some food before heading to the auction. But soon after stepping out, Lai Xiaole ran into an acquaintance.
"Lai Xiaole? You guys... who is she?" Yan Xin'er questioned, holding her bag and looking puzzled at Lai Xiaole, with an angry expression on her face as well.
"Yan Xin'er, why are you in Jiangbei City? She's the deputy leader of the Criminal Police Team, Song Xiaojia." Lai Xiaole introduced with a grin.
"I asked about your relationship?" Seeing Lai Xiaole carrying bags while Song Xiaojia habitually clung to him, looking so intimately, made Yan Xin'er almost explode.
"Just friends! Hey, wait, why should I tell you? Are you here to check household registration or something?" Seeing Yan Xin'er upset, Lai Xiaole also got angry.
"Smack!" Yan Xin'er said nothing, directly slapped Lai Xiaole's face.
"What are you doing!" Lai Xiaole shouted loudly.
Song Xiaojia stood stunned, quite unclear about what was happening. Could that girl in front be Lai Xiaole's girlfriend?
"What do you mean, what am I doing? Lai Xiaole, you're a jerk! Do you know that I came after you the very next day you left? Do you know how worried I've been these days? But you, just a few days and you've already moved on, cozying up with another woman!" Yan Xin'er screamed.
Yan Xin'er was hired as Lai Xiaole's secretary, but in her heart, Lai Xiaole was not only her boss but also her one and only man.
The Lai family had ancestral rules, Lai Xiaole couldn't marry a woman like Yan Xin'er, but Yan Xin'er didn't care.
People around quickly gathered.
"Yan Xin'er, please clarify the situation before you speak, okay? What are you to me, anyway? Don't vent your madness on me! Seriously, am I that unlucky? Xiaojia, let's go!" Lai Xiaole glared at Yan Xin'er then pulled Song Xiaojia to leave.
It was no wonder Lai Xiaole was angry. With so many people watching, Yan Xin'er gave him no face at all.
Seeing this, Song Xiaojia understood what was happening, giggled, and said to Yan Xin'er, "Lai Xiaole, I won't be the third wheel, goodbye."
She emotionlessly took out a ticket from her bag and handed it to Lai Xiaole, "This is the auction entry ticket. Sorry, you'll have to go on your own in the afternoon, just ask and you'll find out."
"What are you doing? Xiaojia, come back!" Watching Song Xiaojia leave quickly, Lai Xiaole angrily threw all eighteen skirts on the ground.
"Feel better now, do you?" Lai Xiaole shouted at Yan Xin'er.
"I..." Witnessing the scene in front of her, Yan Xin'er seemed to realize her mistake and didn't know what to do.
"You what! Mind your own business, don't even say we're just friends." Lai Xiaole furiously yelled, then ran after Song Xiaojia's direction.
Yan Xin'er stood there, unable to speak.
She felt a deep pain inside her, and immense sorrow. She didn't understand what she was sad about or for whom she felt this pain.
Seeing the intimate actions between Lai Xiaole and Song Xiaojia, she inexplicably felt an emptiness inside, like she'd suddenly lost something, immensely painful.
After crying on the spot for about two minutes, people around started to disperse, and Yan Xin'er left alone, feeling desolate.
After Lai Xiaole chased ahead, he couldn't find any sign of Song Xiaojia. He hurried back to where Song Xiaojia had parked earlier; the car was there, but she wasn't.
Helplessly, Lai Xiaole gave up because his calls went unanswered.
After leaving the shopping street, Lai Xiaole hastily grabbed some food and headed for the Su Group auction venue.
When Lai Xiaole reached the auction venue's entrance, two men in work uniforms approached him, saying, "Hello, sir."
Lai Xiaole looked at the two men and said, "I'm here to buy something."
"Perhaps this is your first time at our auction house? These are our credentials; we're internal staff. For privacy and safety, please join us in a vehicle. We'll take a detour around the city and then guide you to the auction house." One of them, the slightly chubbier one, said with a smile.
"Is that so? Let me see your credentials first." After inspecting their credentials, Lai Xiaole followed them into the car.
He wasn't afraid of danger, just didn't want to waste time.
Sure enough, the two drove him around the city aimlessly for a while, then somehow drove directly into the auction venue. When Lai Xiaole got out, he was already in a private booth.
"Not bad at all, thanks for your hard work. Do you want a tip?" Lai Xiaole asked cheekily, not intending to tip.
"Thank you, sir, but we're not allowed to accept tips from guests. If you need anything, feel free to call us. We'll be at the door." They both smiled and left the room.
Inside the booth, only a small window was open, but it was behind glass, preventing them from leaning out. There was also a cover outside, making it impossible to see straight, only downwards.
"Excuse me, how should I place a bid later on?" Just as Lai Xiaole tried to open the door, he found it wouldn't budge, so he had to knock hard.
"Sorry, sir, if you wish to bid, there are price tags provided. Write your number and put it on the window glass, that's all you need to do."
"All right, thanks." Lai Xiaole didn't ask further and focused on the auction items being rolled out.
