Chapter 250: Master and Pet
———Yos———
<10: 17 am>
Everyone is still in shock at the appearance of two unknown individuals, no one dared to make a move as the pressure exuding from the pair was suffocating. It’s signaling to everyone with a survival instinct to run and hide. It’s a sensation I never felt before, excluding what felt like peering into the void when I tried to scrutinize that white-haired woman. That gives me a similar feeling, if perhaps less terrifying since I don’t know the full extent of it.
It feels like minutes have passed despite how sudden the entrance was and how little happened as everyone, no matter their affiliation, can only look at them with confusion and fear. Time seems to slow down when under great distress, which is probably what I am feeling right now.
“Well then. Since none of you are running away, I guess it is a declaration of resistance.” The girl in the dark gray robe said as she held the metal leash close to her face. “My beloved pet, it’s time to let you have your fun.”
*Drop* *Clang*
“RAAAGHHHHH!!!!” A monstrous scream came out of the mouth of the giant humanoid wolf the second the leash was dropped and hit the ground. It’s as if an invisible force is accompanying that mighty roar and pushing everyone back before they could react.
*Leap* *Crash*
The giant wolf jumped past us and rushed towards the invader.
“H-Hey. What’s going on?” The guy next to me asked. How am I supposed to know!?
*Swing* *Strike* *Smash*
The giant’s assault is restless as the invaders have to think of what to do against such an overwhelming force. One hit from those giant bulky arms and you’re done for, some of them were sent flying into the concrete wall or the course ground.
People from our side are running away, not really sure if that beast would recognize whether someone is a friend or foe. While those invaders conveniently do have armbands to identify each other, I don’t even know if that giant wolf is even human. With the fighting style so savage and the fact that it’s attacking almost indiscriminately makes it hard to believe that’s even something sentient.
All attacks were bounced off as if hitting an invisible barrier, and the speed and power behind each strike could easily kill…
“…Hey! You! Go tell the others to evacuate out of this town, now!” I yelled out after something clicked in.
“W-What?” He said in confusion.
“Get the hell out! Don’t even hide in buildings! Just run!” I yelled a second time to make sure that message finally reached his brain. “I’ll stay here for now, you need to go!”
“O-Okay!” He said before running off, walking past the woman observing her pet doing her dirty work, standing still as she observed what would be called a slaughter.
*Grab* *Throw* *Crash*
When I turned to look at the right unfolding, I saw the giant wolf grabbing someone and throwing him at his companions, making them all fall over like a bunch of bowling pins. Despite the massive frame it’s clear that this hulking beast would’ve run circles around me without breaking a sweat.
The invaders quickly retreated when they realized that fighting wouldn’t be much help. Unfortunately, this is just one of the units, it’s far from over.
“You think you could run away!? Pet, give them their punishment. Don’t let a single one escape!” The beastmaster said with a twisted expression as she ordered her servant.
*Crackle* *BLAST*
A massive burst of energy came out of its gaping maw and seemed to swallow up all the retreating figures. I can’t even be certain if anyone is alive. I would be very surprised if they are, seeing as the road ahead is suddenly painted in red.
“Come here girlie. We still have other places to check out.” The blonde woman said while performing a beckoning gesture, and the giant beast returned to her and placed her on its shoulder.
*Leap*
It jumped away, probably rushing towards the other invaders that were still attacking. I don’t really know if their side has received the intel of this third party, but regardless I need to make sure that our side has evacuated, or at least isn’t in the vicinity of those two.
If we stayed within the proximity of those two there’s a chance we could get caught in the crossfire. Hopefully all those other volunteers also dipped along with the-
*Smash* *Slam*
When I catch up to the two, the giant bipedal wolf is once again seen battling those with armbands. Swinging its arms with reckless abandon. Nothing even caused the giant to flinch. It’s like fighting a natural disaster that doesn’t really care what was thrown at it.
*Chomp* *Crunch*
One guy got gobbled up and crushed by the sharp fangs before being spat out with his body almost split in half. That quickly demoralizes the group and they are clearly planning on retreating.
*Grab* *Slam* *Splat*
Before they could escape, one of them was suddenly grabbed then slammed on the ground and exploded into a fine red mist.
*Leap* *Smash*
As the others in that group tried to retreat, the giant wolf leaped forward to cut off their exit and start tearing into the group as they had to now go the other way around. The beast’s giant frame and agility makes it practically impossible to run past it without adding to its kill count.
*Leap* *Grab*
“Grk!” Probably due to desperation, someone tried to ambush the beastmaster only for him to be intercepted by a hand reaching out to his neck and grip it tightly, clearly intent on choking him and crushing his neck.
“Hey! Doggy! Eat up!” She said to the giant wolf as she held the man who thinks he could overpowered someone in command of such a powerful weapon. The fact that she’s content to just stand there instead of going into hiding makes it clear she’s no slouch herself.
*Throw* *Chomp* *Crunch* *Gulp*
She threw the poor sod right into its mouth! It just eats the guy whole!
“Now then. Let’s end this quickly so we can go home. I’m starting to get bored with how little resistance they put up.” She said as she walked forward. “Kill them quickly and be done with it. We got more fish to fry.”
*Grab* *Swing* *Crash* *Smack* *Splat*
The giant wolf then grab one of them by the legs and start using them as a weapon, swinging the poor soul right towards his companion, each strikes battering their body and causing his to become managed to the point of turning into mush as all of his bones were broken and bleeding out until he’s no longer useful as a blunt weapon.
*Swing* *Block*
“Hey. Enough with the play.” Suddenly a new voice rang out as the giant wolf’s fist was blocked by the newcomer and suddenly the remaining survivor of the opposing side suddenly had a collar put on them.
The sight of someone blocking a fist of such a giant hulking beast with only a hand is absolutely ridiculous, and yet considering who she is, that shouldn’t come as a surprise.
*Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap* *Zap*
All of them were electrocuted and collapsed to the ground.
“Wiina…” The blonde one said as she stared at her while her giant pet chose to retreat and walked over to her side.
“You’re starting to get way into it, so I had to step in.” Wiina said as she looked around the area, seeing the area trashed with broken signs and holes in the road and walls, as well as the pile of corpses scattering all over the place, many of which are not in a state that’s for the faint of heart. “I’m not trying to kink shame, but you and your ‘pet’ should leave before people actually start to recognize you. Besides, as you said, it’s already gotten boring, or were those just empty words?”
“Tch. Fine. Puppy, let’s go home.” The other party said before both of them unceremoniously walked away. That went way smoother than I would’ve thought.
So she’s gonna let those two lunatics leave like that? I thought she would’ve been more involved than that.
“Oh, hey. Weird to see you here.” She looked at me and said. “Guess you were caught by surprise, seeing that you’re not in your armor.”
“Even if that’s not the case I’m not sure if I’m in the mood to put that ridiculous helmet on.” I replied. “Thanks for the assist. It looked like things were going to escalate.”
“It definitely will. Perhaps not on the scope of a whole city being destroyed, but the road will definitely be painted red and a building or two becoming nothing but a pile of rubble. If there was one more extraordinary individual in the mix, then all of you truly need to abandon ship.” She said without sounding particularly bothered by the possibility. I guess my estimate wasn’t wrong. I just didn’t expect her to intervene to stop the damage from spreading further.
“So who even were those two? It seems like you know.” I asked, wondering if she’ll even be willing to answer.
“Confidential. Unless you wanna risk being on her dinner plate.” Okay then, guess that’s a no for a foreseeable future. That is two other homicidal individuals she is seen with. At this point it just makes it seem like her choice to not kill or damage property more performative than anything. The nearly perfect operation she performed in our town and the three total casualties makes it hard to believe that she would let someone who isn’t averse to killing in the slightest go like that. Perhaps the fact that she let that crow woman come along should be the first sign.
But speaking of casualties, there are a lot. Somewhat thankfully, none of them seem to be the people living here, but the sight is still harrowing.
“I’ll take my leave with all the captured enemies, I’ll send some resources their way so they could properly rebuild the town. Thankfully the damage is way less severe than your own.” She remarked. It is fortunate that things don’t go that far, but I can’t say I like the comparison.
“So why have you come here this time? It looks like things would've been resolved anyway.” I asked, wondering why she seems rather lax.
“Make sure that girl doesn’t have too much fun, for one. Secondly, we’re having a party in my town right now, so I don’t want others to hear that one of their neighboring towns just got conquered and oppressed. It’s already on the news at this point. The best I can do is come here to make sure things don’t go south.” A party? That’s the main reason she’s being so proactive compared to last time? Something about the things she said and how she said it just feels infuriating, yet I can’t really complain. She still helps me twice now, that fact doesn’t really change. At least it’s better than people who said they want to help but never did. Sometimes you just have to look past whatever weird reasoning exists, as long as it’s not intrinsically malicious. “You could come if you want. It’s technically open until midnight. We got a bunch of expensive stuff you can take for free. Don’t be shy.”
Before I could say anything in return, she already left along with everyone she captured. It was literally in the blink of an eye. It was as if she wasn’t even there at all, and I don’t even know where those two went.
…What in the world am I supposed to do now? No doubt I have to explain what happened to the others as well.
“Hey! Are you alright? What happened here!” Someone said as he ran up to me. “All of those guys suddenly collapsed and disappeared and… What in the world happened here?”
“It’s a long story.” I said as he was clearly baffled and terrified by the carnage left behind.
