Chapter 180: Friendwatch
———Orrel———
<11: 59 am>
Magic spells are thrown around in quick succession and wearing down the giant white yeti-like monster of this tenth floor.
A swing from the spiky shield right towards its throat and the monster quickly lose its life and collapse onto the hard ground as it bleeds out.
“<Good work!>” Karra said as the others walked over to congratulate the two.
“<Yeah. No sweat.>” Liss said, not sweating like she said, but sounded slightly nervous regardless. I doubt she used that much mana in one setting, but I suppose no one wants to spend too much mana more than needed. She is probably being conscious of how much she used and how much she has left. For a dedicated spellcaster, you need to keep track of how much you could reliably spend to make sure you have some in reserve when you’re outmatched or need to leave the dungeon.
We have taken it for granted, but the existence of warp points to send us straight back to the surface is a godsend that lets us be more reckless and get more out of a dungeon run without needing to worry about our stamina and mana.
“Mhm… How long do those things even last with the fancy tech and all that?” Jeff asked with a bowl of cereal in his hand and a pile of candy on the table in front of him, all the while looking at the wall of candy.
“Very long. There are staff members around to inspect the items to make sure it doesn’t spoil. I also think they have some sort of computer system for it. I don’t really know where it all came from.” Useph said, as always, not sure what in the world all the fancy technology in his house came from. I never understand it either. His parents probably know something about it, at least.
“Gotta love the surplus of these tooth destroyers.” Kenni said while indulging in them. A lot of chocolate and strawberry-flavored candies. “This place basically has a buffet ready 24/7. It’s a miracle you two don’t get fat.”
“...By the way, does anyone know where Jass is? I thought he’d also come here and enjoy all the food and watch Karra.” Jeff asked. I thought he made it clear already that he has something to do today.
“Who cares, let’s just keep watching. It’s his loss if he doesn’t come here.” Kenni dismissively said, not caring one bit.
“Mhmm…” Emmie meanwhile is enjoying her hot chocolate. The room is quite cold at the moment with a lot of blankets lying around. I don’t quite recall why that is…
“<Huh… Is this a puzzle floor?>” Karra asked from the other side of the screen, looking at a floor with square tiles in the middle, and no monster in sight.
“<Seems like it. It could be dangerous to just try to blaze through it. The ceiling isn’t very high either so leaping to the other side isn’t a good idea.>” That fox woman in the back said. No idea why she is with Karra in the first place. “<I think clearing out the whole area with a big magic blast should work, but that’d be hella boring, ain’t it?>”
“<I guess we could at least test it out first.>” Cry said before breaking a part of the wall with her fist and collecting the pebbles. Those walls are extremely durable usually, even at the first layer.
“Damn, is she made out of metal or what?” Jeyst sarcastically asked, looking a bit surprised.
“Come on now, all of us can do that.” Gregori said mockingly. Indeed we can, but it’s not exactly easy or something we just do by accident for the most part.
The moment she threw some pebbles onto the tiles, they lit up and zap all the pebbles.
“<...Is there no safe tile?>” Cry asked with a dissatisfied look.
“<Looks that way, I guess we’re stu- Whoa!>” Terry was saying something before leaning on a wall that turned out to be a secret door. She then suddenly smashed through the door and parts of the wall in anger, sending the secret door flying and shattering on the other side of the room. “<Alright, who was the smartass suggesting this layout?>”
“Yeesh. Throwing a temper tantrum already.” Kenni said mockingly. That was way more power she put out than I would’ve expected from someone who mainly plays support. She doesn’t even use her impractical-looking weapon for that one.
“<Uhh… Let’s just nuke this room and keep moving then.>” The fox woman said before putting her hand on the handle of her katana.
“<Can we please just do things normally for now?>” Karra complained seeing the state of affairs, walking towards the fox woman and putting her hand on her wrist before she could try anything funny. “<Just… go through the hidden passage. Let’s move on already.>”
“Boooring!” Kenni complained as they all agreed to just do things the intended way.
“Shut the hell up already! Your complaining is drowning the stream out!” Qyunda said, yelling even louder than Kenni did.
“Can you two please stop? Mom is in the house today. If we all get super rowdy she’s gonna kill us!” Useph said, extremely distressed at the commotion. His mom can be very terrifying, and I don’t think the others have really experienced what she’s like when she’s in a bad mood…
One time when… Actually, let’s not recount that rather bloody experience. Let’s focus on the stream and what’s happening right now.
Terry’s tamed monsters start clearing out a large amount of the floor monsters thanks to the buffs she gave them with her spell. They must be extremely potent for early-floor monsters to fight so well.
They’re speeding through the floors again without a trick floor to interrupt them. They should be at the twentieth floor pretty soon. I think.
“<By the way, you guys didn’t skip out on breakfast, right?>” Karra said as they kept moving.
“<I usually don’t eat anything early in the morning, admittedly.>” Cry said, not sounding too concerned.
“<I have cereal, that’s it.>” Liss answered.
“<Granola bars for me. Very quick and easy in the morning.>” Terry gave her own answer. Looks like they aren’t really filled up on much. If anything, sweet stuff causes more appetite down the line, so it’s not exactly ideal.
“<...I see.>” Karra said, not sounding impressed at all.
“<So what did you eat today then?>” Liss asked since she was the one who asked in the first place.
“<For today I got some jellied eels.>” Oh boy. Karra and her obsession with cold food is back again. Everyone’s face reasonably changed to show a sign of disgust and bewilderment. “<What? It’s not like I eat that everyday. Eels are hard to come by nowadays, right?>”
“<The fact that you even eat it in the first place is concerning. Is one of your parents a brit?>” Terry said mockingly.
“<Nope.>” Karra said, clearly not intending on prolonging that part of the conversation. “<Anyway, don’t worry too much about food if you’re feeling hungry. The ones in the back have stuff to give out in case of that.>”
“<Ain’t that reassuring.>” Terry said while looking at them. It doesn’t look like they’re carrying anything big enough to contain meals. Probably some snacks and water at best.
They continue with their escapades and keep running into more monsters and blitzing through them with ease. It looks like it’s gonna be a while before they run into anything remotely challenging.
“<By the way. Do they get paid at all even if they didn’t contribute anything?>” Terry suddenly asked before they walked down to the twentieth floor.
“<Huh? They still get paid no matter what. As long as they keep us safe from anything unprecedented.>” Karra explained. “<Why? You think I’m paying them by how much they kill? That’d be ridiculous and hard to keep track.>”
“<Kinda? But that’s really not the main thing I wanna bring up.>” Terry said before looking at the two combatants on standby. “<I just want to see them in action a bit. Since you went out of your way to bring them here, they must be super strong, right?>”
“<Of course. I’m not gonna skimp out on quality. Bad impression is not something I want out of this collab, as we all know.>” Karra said before leading everyone down the stairs to floor twenty. Meanwhile her chat keeps talking about wanting to see how they do. “<Chat, we can worry about that on the lower floors. Right now things are pretty easy. I’m pretty sure everyone here can blaze through it, even the tech person Fei over there could.>”
“<Hey! Don’t include me in this conversation of yours!>” The one handling the camera drones protested.
They don’t really say much else on the topic and focus on fighting the boss… Hm. The floor is full of monsters with only a single monster standing out among the pack with brighter colors and being much bigger.
They start fighting through the horde with the camera person in the back with the two bodyguards standing close while the four stand in front, Cry taking the frontmost position with Karra and Terry managing the flow of monsters from the side.
That massive shield is doing Crylight a lot of favor and cleans out a large amount of the enemies in front of her, looking like some sort of mutated lizard creature.
“Can’t be the only one feeling like they’re going easy still?” Nicks couldn't help but comment due to the speed of the fight.
“They gotta build up the tension. Besides, going all out would’ve been really boring and a waste of stamina.” Gregori explained. “Also, let’s not forget how we have zero indication of how strong they all are or how much energy has been used up. We can’t really sense those things through the screen now, can we?”
“...Guess not.” Nicks said before turning his attention back to the fight at hand. It’s going to end up as a bloodbath with how many monsters there are.
Soon enough they killed all the monsters in this large hallway and collected the goods.
“<Alright, wellness check time. Fei, scan everyone and show the results.>” Karra said and the drones start to shine a weird color and show results on the screen of each stream. It’s pretty basic, just telling if their mana and stamina level is good or not. Everyone is still in top shape aside from Liss whose mana level is only above average at the moment. “<Hmm. We did just get a mana potion just now. Alright, Liss, bottoms up!>”
She looks a bit hesitant but still gulp down the concoction before they continue with their journey down deeper into the dungeon.
“...Anyone got a fast forward option?” Kenni said before getting off the sofa and going to get more snacks for herself.
“Just be more patient for crying out loud.” Malk said before he continued eating the massive bowl of cereal he has. Everyone here is really indulging in all the snacks on display in this room.
It would’ve been highway robbery if it wasn’t for the fact that it was allowed. Basically the only thing that wasn’t allowed is wasting food. Useph’s mom will murder them if this place is dirtied with food on the ground and walls.
“Considering they are going through this pretty quickly even if they’re taking it easy. I think we’ll see some crazy actions soon enough.” Gregori said while going through a lot of sour candies.
“They could be a bit quicker still, but the pace itself isn’t bad. It’s easy to follow for the weak.” Emmie suddenly chimed in with a glass of hot chocolate topped with a lot of marshmallow.
“You… could’ve worded that a bit better?” Seni said with a big glass of milk and cookies.
“By the way, aren’t you gonna go get a refill? They’re not doing anything important right now.” Useph asked, seeing that after the first batch of snacks I haven’t got up for more.
“...You’re right.” I said before quickly getting up to get some snacks. I need to remember that this stream will be for quite a while as well.
