Chapter 174: Eventful Spectate
———Kenni———
<3: 35 pm>
What a crazy parade to be happening on this day. So many people gather just for this one occasion. So late in the day, what could they be up to?
They are all talking loudly, saying something I can’t quite discern from this distance. They are a pretty large mob of demi-humans. Let’s keep watching and see how it goes. I can’t imagine the police or other authority figure ignoring this for more than a few hours.
It’s happening in multiple places too, there must be a network of people coordinating all of this. Why can’t I ever be a part of something fun like this? But then again, I’d rather not make myself face the news just yet. The incident with Jennla aside, I made sure to not leave any witness behind.
Hmm… Looks like some sort of rally? Or maybe a start of a protest? Considering the type of people involved, it’s quite likely this is some sort of movement done nationwide, or at least in multiple states.
Just what kind of group is able to cause this kind of organization, I wonder…
“You know anything about this? I know you’re watching right now.” I asked, just to see if they were eavesdropping.
“Heheheh… Quite a good sense you have there.” A somewhat distorted voice rang out behind me, and when I turned around I saw a cloud of dark smokes forming into a shape. A body that seems to reflect the light of the sun.
The body is dark pale blue with a metallic texture. The arms are long and look more like coiled up metal than normal human arms, or arms of any living creatures at all. The hands look more like giant claws and the legs look akin to those on dolls with joints.
The face looks humanoid, if a bit lethargic and almost skeletal with a permanent grin on its face, looking more like a helmet or a mask instead of a head, the only thing that keeps this thing from looking bald is the curved horn and spikes on the back of the head.
And what the hell is that belt with multiple glowing dots on it that it’s wearing? This thing sure has a weird biology to it.
“So what the hell are you anyway? That sorta dirty feeling I got from you, probably nothing from this realm, I take it?” Something this strange is very unlikely to come from even this planet.
“Oh? You get that figure out real quick.” This thing said while leaning forward with a hand on the chin. The voice is distorted and seems a bit otherworldly, but also distinctly feminine despite the rather maniacal face that doesn’t really scream either way. “Hehehe… Just a demon looking for some fresh meal. It’s been a long time since I saw any big scale conflicts to observe and salivate over.”
“Good for you, I guess. So why are they doing this, exactly? A demon like you wouldn’t show up without at least having a bit of context. You guys tend to be observant of who you siphoned out of, aren’t you?” I asked with my arms crossed.
“Hmm… I guess I got nothing better to do while I wait for them to pick up arms. I suppose I could tell you. You’d learn it one way or the other anyway.” It said with a smirk, or what probably is a smirk, the mouth barely moves from that giant grin no matter how it talks. “Their need for violence is at an all time high. Looks like they are trying to take over the entire city and topple the local ruler here. It will be a bloodbath to watch.”
“Any reason you come to this specific spot? Or did your demon buddies hog the other places?” I asked, wondering if this event attracts any more of these things.
“Oh, please. It’s pretty rare for so many of us to come to one of the main planes, higher gain and higher risk, that sort of deal.” It said, sounding a bit sassy there. Demons are supposed to be pretty linked with humans, so acting similar is par for the course, though that’s not always the case.
“Something about this realm dealing more damage to yourself, so I’ve heard.” I have read up on them for quite a while since I had nothing better to do. After the last time I saw a giant demon that is practically impossible for me to even put a dent into, I want to at least be more aware of these things.
“Quite knowledgeable, I see...” It said with what is probably meant to be a smirk. “But back on topic. They are being riled up to take over the city to prove their ‘rights’. The animosity between the two sides have been built up by those who control information, be it for their own gain or the compulsion to create conflict. Now it has reached a boiling point and many are looking to finally end the debate in a violent fashion.”
“I guess you’re here to spectate then? Very few demons need to directly get involved if things already escalate this much.” I asked, since I’m not too sure if this thing is within my level or not. From my understanding, a demon that roams around in the main plane must be really confident in their strength.
“Indeed. Though I am quite tempted to kill them all afterward to harvest a bit of fear, even if that is not what I am built for.” Right, the power of agony. Demons love those.
“I’d rather you not, since I want to watch the possible consequences of it at later dates.” Killing them wouldn’t really bring anything to me, so I’d rather this thing not do that.
“You sure are a confident specimen. You’re lucky I am not the type to do harm, even if my appearance says otherwise.” Yeah, a demon whose body is akin to a living armor doesn’t seem all too friendly. “I do wonder if a few of my type did come about. For their sake, they better not go into the territory of the strong. I’ve heard a few scary individuals on par with even the top of all demons exist here in this time period.”
“Hmph. Can’t imagine going against them would’ve been fun.” I don’t actually have a point of reference for how strong that’ll be, but probably way stronger than I am at the minimum.
*Zip* *Swing* *Evade*
“Tch.” The sudden assailant appeared behind it and attempted to cut it right in half, only for the demon to barely get out of the way, and he clicked his tongue in annoyance that it managed to barely avoid the upcoming sword strike.
This person… Is one of the new P.E. teachers. Elrik, I think that’s his name.
“Huhu… This is quite bad for me.” The demon remarked as it floated up and away from the scene. “Guess I’ll go back and pick somewhere else then.”
*Zip* *Slash* *Slice*
Before it could make an actual escape attempt, he flies up to it and cuts it up into a few pieces and the body dissipates in a dark glimmer before he could even do more damage.
“Hmph. It barely got away.” He remarked as he landed back down on the rooftop. Looks like he didn’t quite deal the fatal blow to it before it was transported back to the Demon Realm. Quite resilient to be considered ‘alive’ in that kind of state. In that case I probably wouldn’t even come close to making much of a dent in that thing. “Good thing you didn’t engage with that thing. It seems to be a very powerful demon that’s even stronger than that demon that created the hate plague many months back, nothing you could deal with in your current state. You’d be crushed to paste in a second, even.”
“Yeah, I sorta figured.” I’ll just roll with whatever he’s saying, but to think that thing is even stronger than that titan, you’d never guess with one being humanoid and one being that giant hulking beast. “By the way, what are you wearing right now? Some sort of cosplay?”
“Simply my combat gear.” He said before the clothes were suddenly replaced with something more casual. The white tunic and mint cape looks pretty neat, but also seems a bit generic-looking, not what is quite on my mind with a hardass like him. I wonder when I can get a spell to swap my clothes around all easypeasy like that? “What are you doing here anyway? I can’t imagine someone like you would come here just to do a simple sightseeing.”
“Oh, I’m here to watch the spectacle, you know the one. I didn’t realize this is where you live.” I answered quite honestly.
“Certainly a twisted sense of curiosity you have. Unfortunately, I will also be moderating this to make sure nothing goes too far. I’m quite sympathetic to these demi-humans, but I’d rather not let them veer into extremism.” He said with a straight face, looking all serious. That kind of face is more or less the default expression for anything for this guy.
“Eh, as long as I get to see some violence today, I don’t really care.” I said with a smirk.
“...You’re not all too different from a demon, you know that?” He said before trying to walk away. As if that’s gonna sway me on anything.
“So how did you not manage to kill that thing anyway? Can’t believe you are that clumsy.” I can’t help but throw a jab in there.
“I simply misjudged the strength needed for that moment. If I went all-out, there’s a chance that I would end up destroying parts of the town just from a single strike.” He explained. “But I suppose most of you haven’t quite reached the point where exerting even a little bit of strength would cause massive issues.”
And there he goes, flying away and not looking back… Well. I guess I’m not quite where he’s at yet. Maybe Wiina will have more idea as to what he’s talking about.
But back onto why I’m even here in the first place, looks like it’s about to start, whatever the hell this riot is.

<3: 47 pm>
“<Ah jeez, talk about a riot.>” Seemi muttered as the drone showed footage of people rallying amongst themselves. They are all armed with something and are marching, probably towards the mayor’s office. “<Jack, didn’t you say something about lacking funds since the government ain’t giving you jack? Did they not think about that?>”
“<How the heck would I know? Not my fault they didn’t look more into the whole situation.>” He said, sounding a bit frustrated. A similar takeover did happen on his ends a while back, so from the sounds of it nothing similar is happening again where he lives.
Oh, the police force is coming through. Looks like the fight is about to start.
“<Hmm… Should I really show them fighting? Maybe I should keep the drone up higher so we don’t see anything too graphic.>” Idea said, clearly unsure about broadcasting this further.
“<I can stomach it. Hey, Jack, your kids aren’t around in your room now, right?>” Seemi asked.
“<Yeah, they should still be in school. I don’t need to worry about them walking in here.>” He answered. No need to worry about traumazing them then. “<I’m plenty morbidly curious. No need to change the current view.>”
“<Alright then, you guys are the boss.>” They replied.
Oh. Yeah, they’re really scrapping. The police shot first before anyone could get close. Then the magic comes about and starts wiping out the opposite side rather quickly.
“...Does anyone know why police aren’t really seen using magic? Surely that’d help them to survive.” There have been multiple cases of them not using even a little bit of mana, why in the world is that?
“<Force of habit, if I were to guess. A bit too trigger happy with their firearms to try other options. It’s not like practicing magic is even that widespread even after eight months of the public becoming aware of it. You’d be surprised how little the population of magic users still is.>” Idea explained. I mean, unless you use magic you won’t go very far into the dungeon, and there are a few at my guild at least. I thought it’d be a bit more common in a more populated place.
“See? This is why you ought to be more active, Seemi.” I throw a jab in there as we watch the police force get brutalized. Not sure if they’re aiming to kill or just subdue, hard to tell with all the flashy spells being thrown around, who knows how well those officers could tank those.
“<Shut it.>” She gave a short reply while everyone else stayed silent and watched the scene unfold. This is just one of the places with this riot happening, who knows how well the other ones are going.
“<Kind of wild that we’re watching this like we’re some sort of mysterious group of overseer. No one is getting quite a view like this.>” Kara remarked. It is a bit odd, but that’s what having a rich friend with tech does for us. No idea why they even have one of these super advanced drones just lying around.
