Chapter 141: Cool Feats

“Yeesh. I didn’t know slacking off was allowed.” Kenni mockingly said as she walked around.
“If you didn’t know that, why are you even here?” Qyunda asked, obviously rather frustrated that the person mocking us had no idea what we went through. I doubt her tone would’ve changed even if she knew.
“Oh, I don’t know. Maybe the fact that a few odd energy readings happened while we were out there and you four were slacking off?” She sarcastically explained. “It all disappeared for a while, thought Rico finally went mask-off and killed you four.”
“Just because she can doesn’t mean she will, you know?” I pointed out with a tired expression. “Anyway, a random nutjob ran towards the ship and wanted to take it, so we fought it out and Rico bisected him in half right at the end. Kind of a chilling scene, really.”
“...Really? I didn’t feel like anything big was happening. If she needed to step in it’s probably someone quite strong, ain’t it?” She replied. That’s weird, how could she not notice a giant beam of energy that looks like it could level a town at minimum?
“How? That guy shot out an attack that… Nevermind.” Probably some weird shenanigans one of the two people here did. It’d explain why no one else came rushing to our aid. Even if they don’t think we’re in any danger I doubt they’ll just ignore it. Not to mention that Wiina would’ve… Or maybe she was watching? I don’t really know where she is at the moment.
“Say, who did you guys even fight? You all look pretty tired.” She asked as she leaned in with a grin. “I doubt any of you was planning on killing the guy which is why Rico jumped in at the end, but there’s no way any ordinary schmucks made you four look exhausted, especially you, Karra.”
“Some giant wolf guy with a big ugly sword. No idea who he is, and we probably never will. He’s flat out dead.” I recounted. Does the school even realize that nutjob is even around here? Or was it all just a coincidence? “No idea what his deal is. Not exactly someone who says a lot, just a really violent guy.”
“If that’s what you want to know. I can actually answer that.” Suddenly Edea walked over and chimed in. “Have you checked the recent news?”
“You mean the White House?” Malk asked while scratching his head. It doesn’t seem related at all.
“No. The other recent news. It’s been reported since yesterday, so I guess it’s not that new.” They replied. Something else? I was too occupied with my stream yesterday to look into the news, not to mention the thing with the guilds Wiina had to deal with. “A warlord near the border between Mexico and the United States started breaking through into Texas yesterday. A wolf man with a feral look and few words. Sound familiar?”
“I… think so? Let me look it up…” I replied before checking my phone for news. Let’s see here.
“He was called Kwain Altrew. Looking at publicably available data showed that he once had a criminal record and left the US to settle in Mexico. Looks like he was never really rehabilitated.” Edea explained while I looked through the articles that mention this man. “Multiple cases of assaults, and overall seem to have a bad temper and habit of letting his fists do the talking. Heh, look at where that got him. I’d imagine Rico will turn his corpse into a war trophy and stick it somewhere people can see.”
“She’s… What?” Qyunda is understandably rather disturbed by that statement. It definitely sounds more than a little unhinged.
“Yeah. I mean why wouldn’t she? She loves when people get scared.” Edea casually said, as if this is normal behavior. “Nothing feeds her quite like human despair… But enough about her, let’s talk about that dead man. Basically, he is one of those ‘warlords’, those crazy powerful individuals who pillage multiple towns and cities and seem to be absolutely out of their mind. Need a massive army to even kill one at the expense of almost all the troops. It’s rather a chilling tale, but I think some of you have read up on that already.”
“No kidding. This guy is really unhinged…” I muttered out loud as I read through the articles. It’s rather befuddling that someone would forge a path of destruction, keeping on killing and stealing instead of living peacefully without having to worry about a gun to the head or a sword to the neck. Can’t really say I get it, but maybe I need to be in a really bad headspace to understand.
The others look at the article I am looking at, leaning in to better see the screen.
“We did know beforehand that he might approach us if he took notice of the ship, but that’s under the assumption that he even made past the border and made his way into this Fartarban Realm. No one really knows his goal, so for all we know, he might not come here in the first place. It’s just a bit of bad luck on his part.” They explain further. So was the whole debacle just a coincidence then? Are there any other warlords the school needs to be worried about? From what they have told us, it seems like the others are traveling to different sides of the US.
“Damn right. Honestly. If only I had been around earlier, or even Emmie, Rico wouldn’t even need to step in.” Kenni boasted. Should she really be boasting about being a ruthless fighter who doesn’t care that she might end up killing someone?
“...Speaking of them, what are they doing right now?” From what she had said earlier, it looks like something is preventing them from picking up large energy readings from a powerful attack like the one that wolf man made.
“Hunting monsters and just running around the area. I think Emmie is trying to find one of those Titarat or whatever they’re called.” …I think she meant Titayrant.
“Rather brave of her, considering even the weakest of monsters in that category can level a city.” Edea remarked. “But back on topic. We’re not expecting any students to fight those criminals. It’d be absurd to think any classroom besides this one would manage to even put a dent into one of those maniacs. If you have worries about other classes, don’t be. If things go wrong they can just fly up into the sky or even use the emergency teleport function.”
“...We have those?” Kenni asked with squinted eyes.
“Yeah? We have those for the buses. Why can’t we have it for the ships?” Edea answered. I guess that makes sense. Why not put such a convenient function into everything? Not that it explains why we didn’t use it the first two times we’ve been on here.
“What’s up? Looks like a little crow is slacking off.” Rico finally came back and threw in a jab at Kenni’s expense.
“The heck is that comment for?” Kenni said with an ugly grin. “Last I checked I’m not obligated to do anything!”
“Same with being an annoyance.” Qyunda chimed in.
“Hey! Just so you know, you are also not obligated to chime in!” She snapped back.
“You could also say that I’m not obligated to not chime in either.” Are they just gonna go back and forth? What is this?
“Alright you two, pack it up.” Malk said while noticing that the buffet food is still there, standing up and going grab one for himself.
“...You know what, I do think I deserve a snack time for that nonsense as well.” Qyunda said before following in his example.
Well thankfully that didn’t escalate into a long string of semantics.

*Leap* *Crash* *Roar*
The giant monster destroyed another rock formation she was standing on while letting out a loud roar. As if it needed to intimidate other monsters which already left a while back.
*Slash* *Leap*
She managed to exploit another opening and slashed off one of its many legs before retreating. Why does this long lizard… thing, even need so many legs? As if all those long teeth akin to that of an angler fish and multiple glowing eyes with no pupil weren’t already ridiculous. A true freak of nature that shrugged off multiple limbs being torn off due to the sheer numbers alone.
*Kick* *Crack* *Kick* *Crack*
She then starts kicking the giant rocks from the environment and launching it right into the giant monster, staggering it each time as it connects and explodes into hundred pieces on contact.
*Rush* *Leap*
It tried to swallow her whole, but she simply jumped away and continued to dodge its rather predictable pattern.
Despite its sheer size it is quite agile, so it wouldn’t be easy for any of us who are spectating her to be able to perform the same kind of feat as comfortably.
*Shine*
Suddenly its multiple eyes light up. Signaling some sort of attack.
*Blast* *Block*
It shoots multiple beams of light at Emmie while she is still in the air looking for a high ground or a blind spot. She managed to block it in time but was sent flying even higher up into the clouds from the pressure of the attack.
*Leap*
Despite its sheer size, it managed to jump up so high that it looked light it might reach Emmie. Even it is barely a speck in my view with how high up the two of them are.
*Smack* *CRASH* *RUMBLE*
It seems to have failed in its desperate attempt to kill her, as some sort of counter attack sent it flying back down to the ground, causing its massive body to hit the earth and cause the surrounding area to shake due to the sheer impact.
Emmie meanwhile landed back on the ground gracefully while the giant monster landed on the back of its head. It must’ve been very durable if it didn’t crack its neck from that.
*Dim*
She summoned another spectral scythe made out of dark energy, now wielding two giant scythes while confronting the giant monstrosity that is the length of a dozen buses and roughly four-story tall. She seems to be gathering a large amount of energy while the monster remains staggered, taking some time to finally shake off the impact.
*Roar*
It roared as it finally recovered from the fall and rushed towards her with a clear intent of swallowing her whole and stabbing her with the hundred of long and pointy teeth inside its mouth.
*Swing* *Slice* *Chop*
She stood her ground and as it attempted to swallow her, the scythes elongated and she started cutting into the teeth and the inside of its mouth. The monster had its mouth in the ground and seemed to have succeeded in its action despite her defiance.
The others are understandably shocked and some seem ready to jump in to rescue her.
*PIERCE*
But before anyone could do or say anything, something pierce through the back of its head from the inside, and it recoiled back in pain, still alive and functioning despite the fact such an attack should be fatal to most creatures, be they human or animals.
Emmie flies out from inside its mouth and is now hovering above it while it is still vulnerable and reeling in pain.
She merged the two shadow scythes together and formed a giant spear of darkness, aiming it right at the monster’s head.
*Throw* *Pierce* *BOOM*
The lance of darkness pierce through its head and causes a large explosion of darkness that seems to have an effect akin to a black hole as it starts sucking in nearby debris and the flow of the wind is redirected.
When the aftermath finally subsided, we can finally see the end result and the remains of the monster. While its body remained rather pristine outside of the many limbs she has cut off, its head is a different story. Looking more like grounded meat all mush up together with only its fangs and eyes giving off any indication that this is what used to be its head.
As for Emmie, she simply landed back down and dusting off her hands, as a signal of a job well done.
Honestly, if she weren’t our friend, this would’ve been an extremely terrifying thing to witness.
