Chapter 26: Talks and Moving Parts
———Karra———
<7: 14 pm>
“<Seems like there are more talks about the changelings, it feels like.>” Seemi pointed out, and that is probably something I have to talk about, sooner or later.

Of course, I don’t think I have much to say. I might’ve changed, but all things considered it was very minor, just a pair of horse ears and tail. I don’t find them all too different from before.
“<I can imagine why, your bodies changed, becoming what some considered less human, and few were drastically changed. I think I saw a few comparison pictures, they don’t look similar at all.>” Edea remarked. “<There’s even sex change! Admittedly not something we can’t do in this day and age, but definitely not in a flash.>”
“<Now that I think about it, what happens to people like that?>” Jackman pondered.
“Hm? They wouldn’t go through different procedures than others who changed, I’d reckon.” I said, wondering what else would be different. It’s just a change to their body, one way or another.
“<They probably wouldn’t, but I don’t think that’s what Jack means to ask.>” Edea replied. What do they mean by that?
“<Aaah. Right. I wonder how that whole thing worked.>” Seemi remarked. I feel like I’m not exactly on the same page.
“<You’d think it’d be random, but what if it’s not?>” Edea proposed.
“<What? Like they’re all forced out of the closet? That’d be one hell of a way to do it. At least they’d get a free and quick transition.>” Seemi shares her opinion on… I feel like I’m…
“<That would’ve raised a lot more questions, right?>” Jackman said, sounding a bit skeptical.
…Oh! Right!
“<It would, but if we are being optimistic about it, this event does quite a lot of good for the world.>” Edea said. Don’t they already have a lot of information on that particular event? Maybe what they say is true?
“<You happen to know something?>” Seemi asked, clearly starting to get suspicious. These guys already had sus on them when the information on my knife came to light. It’s going to be hard to say something without having some scrutiny casted.
“<Nothing like that, come on guys.>” Edea quickly tried to deny it. “<Can we get back on topic?>”
“So what is it about sex change again?” I feel like I’m not quite catching on.
“<Who really knows? Idea here seems to think the new bodies of the changelings like us will not cause dysmorphia, basically.>” Jackman summarized. “<I mean, none of us have that problem, but it’s not exactly a big sample size.>”
“<Isn’t it just you and Kara?>” Seemi pointed out.
“<Weren’t there others in the chat also like us? Last I checked.>” Jackman retorted.
“<Those guys? They might as well be ghosts at this point.>” Seemi sneered. Guess she doesn’t like how many of them aren’t active here. It doesn’t help that this isn’t exactly a large Harmonia group.
“I think we can at least say the changes aren’t all too bad…” I said to put us back on track. I was searching something just now but the way the conversation is going I can’t exactly ignore it.
“<At the very least, there doesn’t seem to be any reports of severe symptoms. I’ve heard about high fevers, but that’s about it.>” Edea mentioned.
“Pretty much circumstantial at that point, a lot of things can cause fevers.” I pointed out while I scroll through the feed.
“<True enough, though people are still panicking about that, rather irrationally.>” Edea replied while I came across a… Is this rage bait? Looks like rage bait. Let’s ignore that.
“<Yeah, who in the world never got fevers before?>” Seemi said in agreement, sounding rather sarcastic… Wait. Did I scroll past something important?
“<It’s just fear-mongering, what else is new.>” Jackman meanwhile dismissed the whole thing entirely… Oh! It’s the reporting on that! “<By the way, weren’t there reports of the opposite happening too? Some people get cured of their current sickness immediately.>”
“<That doesn’t get talked about nearly as much, it feels like.>” Edea remarked. Now I do wonder if they accidentally caught sight of me at some point… Doesn’t look like it? “<Imagine if you have someone terminally ill able to stand back up all fine and dandy. That’s a miracle, no matter how you slice it.>”
“<It does make you wonder what effects does that one event actually entails.>” Seemi mentioned. Now with this news site there’s nothing talking about me at least, so that’s nice. I don’t want people hounding me preemptively.
“Huh, apparently people got sightings of helicopters being shot down from that supervillain school.” I mentioned this as I click on the post and look at the comments. Lemme just gave them the link… “What in the world were these guys doing?”
“<What the-? Huh?>” Seemi replied in bewilderment. Yeah who would’ve thunk it.
“<That’s… No way, that’s clickbait, right?>” Jackman said, also finding the news hard to believe. Trust me, if I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t believe it so easily either.
“<Doesn’t seem to be. The pictures look legit enough.>” Edea said, probably finding the whole ordeal easier to believe considering their background. “<I mean I would’ve expected some sort of organization to do something about it, but this seems a bit fast.>”
“<Helicopters aren’t exactly known for being tough, so why use it for barging in?>” Seemi asked, clearly rather confused about the choice just like I do.
“<Maybe because it’s cheaper than other aircraft? Also it doesn’t look like there’s much landing space inside the area for a jet with how much of it is buildings and walls..>” Jackman chimed in with a decent explanation.
“That… Makes sense, at least as far as why they use them.” I remarked. It still feels a bit brazen to send out more than two, considering no one really knows how dangerous the defense system actually was…
“<Regardless. It looks like the defense system does kick in, since people spotted the helicopters being shot down.>” Edea mentioned. Now I don’t actually know what part of that system actually shot it down. In the diagrams it listed things like energy cannons or as stuff like sentry golems that can fly. “<’The pilots are safe on landing, but they ran off before the onlookers could apprehend them.’ I would’ve thought they’d be slaughtered, but apparently not?>”
They might have, if Wiina didn’t step in.
“<Lucky bastards.>” Seemi commented, not sounding particularly sympathetic. “<You think some internet detectives could’ve sussed out where they came from?>”
“<It probably won’t take long, I’d reckon.>” Edea confidently answered. With how many people are still lying around on their phones and computers, I can definitely see some people playing internet detective on this case because they’re bored.

“<All that aside, have there been any major incidents in other countries? I can’t imagine there not being any.>” Seemi asked out of curiosity as I looked through other sites to see if there’s anything interesting to read or watch.
*Tap* *Tap*
“<I’ve seen plenty, but most of them aren’t officially translated or broadcasted here. I studied other languages so I have been looking into it for a while.>” Edea replied.

Still no update on the school site itself… Then let’s go back to looking at other things.

“<Why aren’t they? It’s not like reporting on news from other countries is forbidden.>” Seemi asked, confused as to why.
“<Perhaps, but ultimately the news here will focus on what actually happening in the United States first and foremost, though it is strangely scarce for being such a hot topic right now.>” Edea further elaborated.
“<But why? Who wouldn’t want to be the first to report those juicy headlines?>” Seemi asked, finding the lack of those types of international news baffling.
“<Beats me.>” Jackman said after not being in the conversation for a while. “<At least some random internet users picked up those headlines, right? Maybe not in the best of quality, but at least a cliffnote.>”
*Tap* *Tap* *Click*
Do I know any channels or users who cover those stuff? I’m trying to think of a name here…
…Maybe those drama channels? But I doubt what they said would be particularly accurate.
“<Idea, have you heard anything particularly interesting?>” Seemi asked while I contemplated on whether I should look further into this.
“<I’ve heard a few. Stuff like kidnapping and experimentation, for one.>” Well that turned dark quickly. “<A friend of mine told me about it. It got busted down… like two days back, I believe.>”
“<Seriously? I would’ve thought those things would’ve stayed in the books.>” Seemi remarked, clearly a bit skeptical.
“<It’s not on the news or anything as of this moment, so I can’t really provide proof.>” Edea said, not sounding too bothered about not being able to prove it. “<What about this story? There are posts talking about it already.>”
Let’s see what they just sent to us in chat…
*Click*
…Well this looks rather bloody.
“<Street brawl? Magic brawl? What’s going on here?>” Jackman asked, looking through the article just like the rest of us. It looks really violent, why hadn’t there been more reports on this. “<I think we’ve all seen a lot of reports on violence recently, but here there’s a bunch of bodies all over the streets…>”
“Now that’s spooky, but it looks like that area already has a history of violence, right?” I pointed out after looking at where this takes place. Admittedly it doesn’t change the fact that it looks like the gaining of magic and other powers cause the carnage to be a lot worse than it should’ve been, not to mention it might’ve never happened if that event didn’t take place.
“<It is, but this level of violence is definitely abnormal.>” Edea replied. “<...Actually, it’s a good thing this didn’t appear on mainstream news. Don’t you all think?>”
“Yeah, it probably is.>” Seemi quickly replied.
There is probably a lot of news that could cause mass hysteria, so maybe that’s another reason to not report on them, maybe.

<12: 57 am>
Standing atop the new monument. Once a humble school turned into a project of vanity and nostalgia, trying to reach the stars…
…I think I could come up with better monologue than that, for a scene in front my eyes.
This main building is probably one of the tallest buildings in the world, perhaps the tallest. It stands tall above the clouds, and provides a lonely scene, leaving you with the dark night and sea of clouds as you stand tall on its empty rooftop.
One thing for sure, if you reach this place by your lonesome., you can hardly be called human… I mean, the term Superhuman does have ‘human’ in it, at least…
All that rambling aside, it’s been over a month at this point, there is probably a month or two left before everything stabilizes and the new status quo emerges.
Right now, things are still moving slowly. All things considered stuff like the emerging dungeons or unsealed palaces are mostly unknown to people, same with monster outbreaks. Those things are either still unknown or still small in scope. There is still a lot to unpack for everyone else, let’s see how well they’ll adapt…
…Also, when will she get here? I still want to keep the promise to those two.

<1: 19 pm>
“Dammit! How is this happening again!?” The monkey guy screamed out with bruises on his face and limbs.
“Haa… Haa…” While he is still complaining to himself as his lackeys are incapacitated on the ground, I am still catching my breath.
“Lynda…” Meanwhile Glery hides behind me as she was startled by his outburst.
“Don’t worry, these guys are just a bunch of chumps!” I proudly said before preparing to hit this last guy with the bat.
*Dash* *Smash* *Smash*
I smashed the guy’s head in a few times and he plops down on the ground. He didn’t even manage to avoid it even once.
“...Phew!” That still took a lot out of me though. I can’t believe they actually think I would even consider joining, when they were humiliated so badly already.
Get a better plan if you’re gonna do something like this, dipshit.
…Also. Now that I look back through memory lane, there were supposed to be five of these guys, right? Where did the other two go?
“A-Are they going to be fine?” Glery asked, and I don’t really know. I give them a few concussions, but I’m not actually sure how severe it is compared to what Karra did.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they are still reeling from that last fight, which is probably why I even won the 3-on-1.
“Anyway, Glery, let’s skedaddle before this becomes our problem.” I said before leading us away from the scene.

<2: 34 pm>
*Beep*
“<What’s up?>” Kenni immediately asked once she answered the call.
“I just got confirmation, you know, for ‘that’.” I answered.
“<’That’?... Oh, that thing. When can we do the tour?>” She asked, getting the message quickly.
“Starting tomorrow, it seems.” I relayed what I know. “We can go whenever we want, there are restricted areas, but those are already locked.”
“<This is gonna be interesting…>” Kenni muttered. I would hope it is, with just the exterior alone and what we already saw the last time, there should be a lot more to explore.
Hopefully neither of us are hit with decision paralysis.
