Chapter 436: Day Of Reckoning
The humans who had served that purpose were expendable. And Ethan was willing to take advantage of that belief.
As for Olaf, the agent remained convinced by the memories he now possessed, believing that the events he remembered had truly happened.
He left Beatrice’s residence not long after recovering from his injuries.
But unfortunately for him, the Blessed weren’t the only ones under the fallen angel’s watch.
Olaf was being monitored as well.
Abaddon had been keeping track of his movements, and the moment the agent left the Morgenstein residence, his presence was noticed.
Just like the others before him, Olaf was dealt with swiftly.
———
On this present night at the Morgenstein estate...
Beatrice paced restlessly around her room, her frustration growing with every unanswered attempt to reach her goddess.
"Goddess, answer me!"
"Lady Atia, are you there? Goddess?"
Beatrice stopped and clenched her fists. "Oh, you fucking bitch, answer me!"
Still, nothing happened.
The thing was that, just as the other Blessed had come to believe that they had reached the end of their objective, Atia had also reached the end of hers.
The goddess had chosen Beatrice for a very specific reason.
Aside from Norman, Beatrice was the only other person who had been close enough to the situation.
She already possessed knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the Mistress and the events that had led to Norman’s death, making her an obvious choice when Atia needed someone capable of carrying out her objective.
So Atia had chosen her and furnished her with a portion of her power.
However, when it came to compatibility, Beatrice was far from the sort of person Atia would’ve ordinarily chosen as her Blessed.
There was simply too much bitterness within her.
Beatrice was callous, vindictive, and willing to use power for her own purposes. Much of what existed within her was fundamentally opposed to the ideals Atia would have wanted in someone carrying her blessing.
In that regard, she was almost the complete opposite of Norman.
Norman was the kind of person Atia could genuinely acknowledge and trust with her power. Beatrice had only been chosen because of the circumstances surrounding the Mistress and her familiarity with the situation.
And now that objective had been fulfilled, there was no longer a reason for Atia to maintain that connection.
Beatrice had noticed the change in the last twenty four hours, and had tried repeatedly to reach her goddess.
Now standing alone in her room, the realization hit her.
It seemed that Atia had truly abandoned her.
Beatrice’s expression slowly changed as another thought followed.
If she had truly lost the goddess’s blessing, then she was once again powerless.
And if that was the case, it was only a matter of time before Ethan came for her.
She had already grown suspicious that Ethan and his people were hunting down the departing Blessed, especially when several of the drivers assigned to transport them to their respective destinations had failed to return.
And it wasn’t just the drivers; the Blessed who had left alongside them had also disappeared.
With all these in mind, Beatrice immediately turned toward the servant inside the room. "Get my things ready. I’m leaving this house."
"My lady—"
"You heard me!" She barked, cutting the servant off.
The servant immediately sprang into action, hurrying around the room to gather her belongings and anything she might need. It took only a few minutes before her things had been prepared.
Beatrice grabbed her bag and made her way outside.
She gestured to one of the drivers to get the vehicle around.
But in that moment, the massive gates of House Morgenstein suddenly exploded inward.
BOOM!
The force sent the gates flying into the compound as debris scattered across the grounds.
Beatrice froze as she saw the figure walking through the wreckage.
It was Wilson Heydrich.
His expression was cold and serious, with his katana already drawn and held out by his right hand.
He wasn’t alone.
More figures appeared... and it was the whole team.
Beatrice’s eyes widened as she stared at them, fear immediately creeping into her expression.
Several members of the Morgenstein family rushed forward, preparing to protect her.
But before any of them could make a move, something descended from the sky.
Abaddon landed within the estate.
The moment his feet touched the ground, a sinister aura erupted from his body, spreading across the entire compound.
The Morgensteins immediately felt it, and some froze in fears, while others instinctively took several steps backward.
Ethan walked into the fray with his hands casually tucked inside the pockets of his black overcoat as he walked forward, his expression calm as his eyes settled on Beatrice.
Unfortunately for her, today was the day the team had decided they were going to pay Beatrice a goddamn visit.
Beatrice stared at the approaching group in disbelief before shouting, "What are you all doing?! Fucking get them!"
Her order only seemed to make the situation worse.
Some of the Morgenstein family members exchanged uncertain glances, while some slowly began moving forward.
Their hands trembled around their weapons, and sweat gathered across their faces as they looked between the intruders and the oppressive presence of the fallen angel.
One of them finally gathered enough courage to attack.
The man suddenly lunged toward Hayley, raising his sword high above his head before bringing it down with all his strength.
Hayley simply raised two fingers and caught the blade between them.
The man’s eyes widened in disbelief, while Hayley grinned a devious one before kicking him in the stomach.
The impact was so tremendous that his body was launched hundreds of meters across the estate. He smashed through one structure after another, continuing through the grounds until he disappeared into the distance.
That attack was enough to ignite the chaos.
Percival and Aliyah immediately threw themselves into the fray, followed by the others.
Though, in truth, this could hardly be called a battle.
The Morgenstein men were mostly running for their lives while the wolves happily chased after them, tearing through the estate in pursuit.
Beatrice, meanwhile, turned around and rushed back into the mansion.
Wilson noticed and right then his figure blurred out of sight in pursuit.
——
Within a few minutes, the residential compound was littered with bodies.
Percival pulled his hand free from the chest of one of the vampires and casually flung the blood from his fingers.
At almost the same time, Wilson emerged from the mansion, dragging a severely wounded Beatrice by her hair.
She was covered in cuts and bruises, with blood running down several parts of her face and body.
Wilson gave her one final kick, forcing her down onto her knees.
His expression was filled with fury as he stood behind her, looking more than ready to end her life.
Ethan and the others had gathered around them, all staring at Beatrice.
She slowly raised her head, meeting Ethan’s cold eyes.
