Chapter 165: The Aranchras (Bonus)
Ethan allowed himself a smile. "This would be a good start," he thought.
The upcoming inventions at Stark Industries would absolutely require mana stones of this quality.
Then he walked over to the scattered monster body parts and extended his hand toward them.
[Monster Parts added to inventory]
Selling monster parts was one of the primary ways guilds made money.
Companies purchased them for crafting materials, and even governments bought bulk quantities for military equipment production or research purposes.
Also, this wasn’t the first time Ethan’s guild members had seen him make things disappear like this, so the sight didn’t surprise them anymore.
However, while they assumed Ethan was simply using some form of space element spell to disappear and store anything, but the truth was slightly different.
The inventory system could only collect things classified as resources or items. Living beings could not be stored inside under any circumstances.
Once the collection was complete, Ethan turned his gaze toward a specific direction.
The air in that part of the cavern was different, and a subtle pressure emanated from that spot.
It wasn’t overwhelming, but the concentration of magical energy coming from that location was high enough to be considered a quality threat.
"I guess I have the boss to thank for graciously staying back in that corner and not disrupting this," Ethan said.
Hayley walked up beside him, her eyes narrowing as she focused on the same spot. "It’s pretty strong," she said. "Could almost pass for an S-grade monster."
"Yeah," Ethan agreed, still staring.
Percival cracked his knuckles and started walking forward without hesitation. "Well, there’s nine of us and one of it. Let’s just go kill this thing."
The others quickly fell into step behind him.
The passage leading deeper into the breach narrowed slightly before opening up into a not so large chamber.
But if this was a game, then had just entered the boss room.
And standing in the center of the chamber was the boss monster.
It was on two legs, with a physique that was both humanoid and utterly alien. Its body was covered in segmented bone like armor that was a sickly pale color.
It had an extending from its head that looked like it had tentacles at the back.
The creature stood perfectly still, watching them enter.
None of Clustervayne’s members had the experience to recognize what they were facing, but this monster was classified as an Aranchras.
The team spread out around the perimeter, forming a loose circle around the creature.
But it still didn’t move, instead it remained observing with a weird-looking sword in right hand.
Ethan then mentally commanded both Nina and Arael to attack simultaneously.
Nina dashed forward in an explosive burst of speed, her flaming longsword raised as she closed the distance in less than a second.
Arael who was mid-air already, separated the Runic Chroma from her skin once more, and formed it into multiple spear-like projectiles that hovered around her.
With a flick of her wrist, she hurled one forward at the boss monster.
By opening with his two strongest summons, Ethan would either eliminate the threat immediately or create openings for the others to exploit while the boss was distracted.
Right then, the Aranchras moved.
It dashed forward at the exact same moment, meeting Nina’s charge head-on. Its sword was raised, preparing to clash with hers.
While the ink projectiles from Arael streaked through the air toward it as well.
Then, just as Nina’s flaming blade was about to meet the Aranchras’s sword, thhe creature phased directly through her.
Nina’s eyes widened in shock as the Aranchras passed through her body like a ghost passing through a wall.
Her sword cut through empty air, and the ink projectiles struck nothing but open space as the boss continued its forward motion without slowing.
It phased through Bierzim’s hurled spear, which had been launched from Ethan’s side, and through Joe’s bullets, which struck the wall instead.
And now it was inside Ethan’s five-meter range.
His stillbind spell was cast instinctively, attempting to freeze the creature’s movement in place.
But even the binding, failed.
The Aranchras continued moving as though nothing had happened, its sword descending toward Ethan in a clean, deadly arc.
Ethan’s eyes widened in shock. But at the last possible instant, just before the blade would have cleaved him in two, Mr Stark activated Albedo’s Short Distance Teleport skill.
POOF.
He burst into a cloud of black smoke and vanished.
The Aranchras’s blades cut through empty space. Bierzim still by the corner, swung one massive fist toward the boss’s head in a devastating punch.
But the Aranchras tilted its head to the side at the last second, avoiding the blow with minimal movement.
Joe fired again, aiming for the creature’s center mass.
However, the bullet phased through the Aranchras and struck Bierzim instead, which made the demon summon groan in pain, staggering backward slightly.
By the time Arael launched a second volley of ink projectiles from above and Nina turned to dash back toward the boss, the Aranchras was already half-phased into the ground itself, sinking down like a ghost.
The attacks passed through once more, then the creature disappeared, submerging itself into the floor.
Ethan had reappeared in a burst of black smoke on the opposite side of the chamber, his heart pounding.
His eyes were wide with shock, but he wasn’t the only one.
Every member of Clustervayne stood frozen, staring at the spot where the boss had just vanished.
"What the actual fuck...?" Percival whispered.
Without warning, the Aranchras then emerged from the floor behind Wilson, and raised it blade, attempting to take a nasty swing at the vampire’s back.
But Wilson’s perception as a Saber-class fighter was sharp, and his vampire instincts were sharper still.
He senses alerted him to danger behind and blurred to the side in a burst of speed, dodging the strike.
The Heydrich had just witnessed this thing phase through all attacks from legendary summons. He wasn’t about to take any chances trying to block or parry it directly.
In the next second, two ink projectiles from Arael slammed into the Aranchras’s position, already altered with properties of fire.
BOOM. BOOM.
Explosive bursts of flame engulfed the creature, washing over that side of the chamber in a wave.
Smoke billowed outward, obscuring the boss’s form.
Then it walked out of the flames, completely unharmed given that its body had phased through the attacks as well.
Then It tilted its head upward, looking directly at Nina, who hovered in the air several meters above.
And grinned.
it was mocking them.
Aliyah’s voice came out in a shocked whisper. "Did... did that thing just laugh?"
As though responding to her voice, the Aranchras turned its head toward her and Percival.
And they felt this tension, with their eyes widening.
Then the creature dashed at them in an explosive burst of speed.
"Move!" Percival shouted.
Right then, both werewolves blurred in opposite directions.
