Chapter 643: She Was Just Unlucky
Ivy Tanner thought for a long time, but she really had no appetite, so she simply shook her head.
"You don’t know what you want to eat?" Ethan Kingsley asked.
Ivy Tanner nodded.
Ethan Kingsley suggested, "How about we go to the supermarket? You can buy whatever you feel like eating."
’He wants to take me to the supermarket, too??’
Ivy Tanner found it unbelievable. She didn’t dare go, and more importantly, she didn’t want to.
The trip to the flower and bird market today had already worn her out. Perhaps it was the pregnancy that made her tire so easily.
Ivy Tanner shook her head vigorously. "I don’t want to go."
"Then I’ll go by myself. You wait for me at home."
"Okay," Ivy Tanner replied, nodding obediently.
Ethan Kingsley pinched her cheek, then stood up and left.
As soon as the door closed, Ivy Tanner let out a soft sigh. ’Finally got rid of him.’
Just then, the maid who had been terrified by Ethan Kingsley scrambled to her feet. She walked up to Ivy Tanner and snapped, "Just wait until Miss Julie gets back. You’re going to get an earful from her!"
"Er..." Ivy Tanner pouted pitifully, feigning innocence.
"Idiot!" the maid cursed before turning and heading upstairs.
Ivy Tanner rolled her eyes. ’As if I need them to wait on me!’
’But... I guess I’m just unlucky.’
When she first moved in, the maids had been very polite to her, treating her like a proper human being.
But later, they were bribed by Corinne Linden and gradually grew insolent. Their attitude toward her worsened by the day. It was one thing for them to ignore her, but sometimes they would brazenly eat expensive fruits and meals right in front of her.
She had originally planned to turn a blind eye to all this. She figured she would be moving out soon, so there was no need to bicker with them over every little thing and cause herself more trouble.
Unexpectedly, that guy Ethan Kingsley suddenly suggested staying for dinner. To get out of eating, she had casually mentioned wanting oranges. Who knew her plan would backfire, leading Ethan Kingsley to discover the maids’ secret.
’Oh well. It has nothing to do with me, anyway.’
Ethan Kingsley was, after all, a decisive man. He finished his grocery shopping quickly, even stopping by a fruit stand to buy some fresh fruit, returning with a full haul.
Ivy Tanner grabbed an apple and went out to the back garden, while Ethan Kingsley headed into the kitchen.
After amusing herself for a while, she grew bored. She couldn’t help but glance toward the kitchen’s back window, suddenly curious to see what that man looked like while cooking...
Ivy Tanner tiptoed stealthily to the back window and peered through the glass.
She saw the man with an apron tied around his waist. The sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up to his forearms, revealing a pair of slender, fair wrists. The way he held the knife to slice a cucumber was elegant and captivating.
He was so focused on his cutting that he didn’t even notice her standing outside the window.
’I never thought a playboy like him could be so focused on a single task. He was so handsome it was hard to look away; I could just keep watching him like this forever.’
Just then, Ethan Kingsley suddenly looked up. Seeing her standing outside the window, he broke into a wide grin.
It was as if a sudden ray of sunlight had torn through the darkness, ripping her heart wide open...
She stood there in a daze, blinking, her heart about to leap out of her chest.
Ethan Kingsley leaned forward slightly, reached out to open the window, and said with a smile, "Little Cutie, what are you doing out there?"
Ivy Tanner took a bite of her apple, forcing herself to break out of the awkwardness. She said with a beaming smile, "I’m watching Brother Kingsley cook! You look so handsome!"
Ethan Kingsley’s gaze fell on the bit of apple stuck to the corner of her mouth. His brow furrowed slightly as he beckoned to her with his finger. "Little Cutie, come a little closer."
Ivy Tanner froze for a moment, then hesitantly took a step forward.
