Chapter 636: You Must Keep Being Foolish
Ethan Kingsley frowned. "You don’t want to eat any of this?"
Ivy Tanner immediately nodded.
"What do you want to eat? I’ll have them make something else."
"I want to eat an orange."
"You can have an orange after you finish your meal."
"..." ’Then I really can’t eat.’
Ethan Kingsley tried to coax her a few times, but when she still refused to eat, he decided to use force. He picked up his chopsticks, grabbed a piece of meat, and stuffed it into her mouth.
He thought she would obediently swallow it, but the next second, she spat the meat out because of the grease, followed by a fit of violent retching...
Ethan Kingsley was terrified. He quickly moved closer, held her arm, and asked with concern, "Are you feeling very sick?"
Afraid he would send her to the hospital, Ivy Tanner quickly suppressed the urge to retch and shook her head forcefully.
But her face was too pale, which only made Ethan Kingsley more worried.
"I’m taking you to the hospital to get checked out."
"No shots!" Ivy Tanner immediately protested. Then she burrowed into his arms, clutching his clothes tightly.
Seeing her hiding like an ostrich, Ethan Kingsley couldn’t help but chuckle. "If you don’t want a shot, you have to eat."
"I’ll eat!" Ivy Tanner immediately sat back down in her chair, picked up her chopsticks, and forced herself to eat a few mouthfuls of plain rice.
Seeing that she was finally willing to eat, Ethan Kingsley thoughtfully placed some food from the other dishes into her bowl.
Ivy Tanner practically swallowed her food whole. God only knew how badly she wanted to throw it all up, but to survive, she couldn’t let him discover she was pregnant. All she could do was endure the misery.
After she finally finished the meal, Ivy Tanner thought he would leave immediately. Instead, he took a call and suddenly decided not to go. He sat on the sofa, his face dark as he spoke on the phone, criticizing someone on the other end.
Ivy Tanner felt bored but didn’t dare go upstairs, so she lay down on the sofa to see if she could fall asleep. ’Things would be much easier if I were asleep.’
When Ethan Kingsley finished his call and looked down, he saw the girl sleeping soundly with her head pillowed on his thigh. A strange ripple went through his heart, and he reached out to gently stroke her cheek.
’Setting aside her intelligence, she’s actually very beautiful, like a porcelain doll that could shatter at the slightest touch.’
He softened the menacing aura around him, trying his best to be gentle as he carefully lifted her into his arms.
He went upstairs and gently placed her on her bed.
He wanted to leave, but a strange reluctance held him back, so he sat down on the bed.
’If she hadn’t become a fool...’
This sudden thought led him to imagine another outcome.
An outcome he did not want.
He looked at her face and seemed to murmur to himself, "You have to stay a fool. That’s the only way I’ll be good to you."
Ivy Tanner’s fingers twitched uncontrollably.
When she felt a strange sensation on her lips, Ivy Tanner vaguely realized what was happening, and her heart plunged into a despair deeper than any she had ever known.
In the end, he didn’t leave. He stayed the night, using her as a pillow for the entire evening.
Miraculously, he didn’t do anything else; he simply slept.
When she woke up, he was already gone.
Ivy Tanner picked up the phone Lucas Rhodes had given her and tried to contact Claire Sinclair, but every time she called, it said the phone was off.
’Strange, why is it still off after two days?’
’Could it be... that something happened?’
Feeling uneasy, Ivy Tanner hid in the bathroom and secretly called Lucas Rhodes.
"Mr. Rhodes, I can’t get through to Claire Sinclair. Can you reach her?"
"You can’t reach her?"
"That’s right. It’s been two days, and her phone has been unreachable."
"Maybe she’s away on business. With Young Master Quincy protecting her, nothing will happen."
"Is that so..." Ivy Tanner was still worried. Even with the backing of Quincy Manor, having her phone off for two days straight seemed suspicious.
Lucas Rhodes seemed very busy. He suddenly offered an apology and then hung up.
