I Married the President

Claire finally spoke. "Before I met Mr. Quincy, I was insecure and weak. I was abused by my family for over a decade, and in the end, I was betrayed by my ex-boyfriend, who nearly raped me. It was Mr. Quincy who saved me from that living hell and gave me new hope. I’m very grateful to him, and I love him deeply, but I never once thought that being with him was for his wealth and status."

"I’ve wanted to divorce him countless times, but Mr. Quincy wouldn’t agree. He was willing to give me a chance to keep up with him, and I’ve worked hard. I’ve written numerous articles and earned the approval of many, but I never imagined that in the end, I still wouldn’t be able to win your approval."

"Of course, if you insist on Mr. Quincy divorcing me, I will fight for our marriage one last time. If, in the end, our love can’t overcome his filial devotion to you, I won’t put him in an awkward position."

By the end, her voice was choked with emotion. Tears welled in her eyes, but she held them back.

"Old Mr. Quincy, that is my position. Whether you believe me or believe Yara, who is only playing the victim, I will not appear before you again. Goodbye." With that, she turned and left without a backward glance.

When she reached the hallway, Adrian was still on the phone at the far end.

She gave him a complicated look from a distance, deciding not to say anything more before turning toward the stairwell.

Seeing this, Adrian quickly ended his call. He hurried after her and grabbed her arm. "Claire, where are you going?"

Claire looked up at him and said coolly, "I’ve told your grandfather everything I needed to say. Go take care of him. He probably doesn’t want to see me."

"Claire, I’m sorry," Adrian apologized in a low voice.

Claire smiled. "Mr. Quincy, you don’t have to apologize to me. Go see your grandfather. Maybe you can persuade him."

Adrian gave a slight nod. "Go home and wait for me."

"Okay." Claire was not an unreasonable person. ’These things are too complicated, and it’s irrational to place all the blame on one person. I should just let him handle it. I’ve done all I can.’

After seeing his wife off in her car, Adrian returned to the hospital ward.

Old Master Quincy’s eyes were fixed on him. He waited until Adrian sat down before speaking. "Adrian, give me your assessment of Claire Sinclair."

Adrian nodded. "Claire is a reflection of all the people who, despite their vulnerabilities, continue to fight for their dreams. But she’s also different. She is my wife. She is the only woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. I love her."

Old Master Quincy was silent for a moment before asking, "What’s this about the child?"

Adrian’s eyes hardened as he fought to suppress a wave of emotion. He said in a low, heavy voice, "Claire and I lost our first child. It was a huge blow to her. I feel I failed her terribly."

Old Master Quincy didn’t respond, but his eyes showed a great deal of regret.

Adrian continued, "The reason Yara was sentenced to ten years wasn’t just because she was responsible for the death of our child. She also attempted to flee to escape justice, ran someone over with her car and left them permanently disabled, and then refused to admit her guilt. The judge sentenced her to ten years. It wasn’t my doing."

Old Master Quincy’s expression finally changed. "Are you saying... Yara lied to me?"

Adrian countered, "Did Yara tell you Claire has an ex-boyfriend who’s a rapist? Did she also say things about her having a bad reputation?"

Old Master Quincy was suddenly at a loss for words.

Adrian had already guessed as much. His face was devoid of expression as he said, "Claire was betrayed by her ex-boyfriend and was nearly raped. I was the one who sent that thug to prison. Yet Yara took Claire’s tragedy and twisted it to spread lies. Grandfather, I hope you can look at these facts rationally."
