I Married the President

Chapter 700: Oh, This Fiery Temper of Mine

‘Talk about a windfall.’

Claire Sinclair said with a laugh, “So you suspect me?”

The man in the suit said, “Apologies, this is just standard procedure. Please come with us.”

Just as Claire Sinclair was about to speak, Helen Wallace suddenly cut in, “You’d better think this through. Before you go around accusing people, you should check who you’re messing with.”

The man’s face showed no fear. “If Miss Sinclair has been wrongly accused, we will of course bring her back.”

Helen Wallace shot back, “Just because an extra 100 million appeared in my sister-in-law’s account, you’re saying she did it? Have you lost your minds?! My sister-in-law hasn’t stepped out of the house in half a month. On what grounds are you accusing her? Show me some evidence!”

As she spoke, Helen Wallace walked right up to the two men, her hands balled into fists, looking ready to throw a punch at any moment.

The two men in suits were a little intimidated and both took a step back.

Helen Wallace scoffed, “Without any evidence, I’d like to see either of you try and touch my sister-in-law.”

The man in the suit suddenly felt the pressure, cold sweat beading on his forehead.

The two men turned their heads and conversed in hushed tones for a long moment. Finally, they turned back and said to Claire Sinclair, “Miss Sinclair, how about this? For the time being, please remain at home. If you need anything, you can have someone else take care of it. That way, we don’t have to make things difficult for you, and you don’t have to make things difficult for us. What do you think?”

‘House arrest, to put it bluntly.’

Claire Sinclair naturally had no objection. “Alright, I’ll cooperate.”

“Our apologies for the disturbance.” The men in suits rose in unison and left.

Helen Wallace followed them out. She returned a few minutes later, huffing, “They’ve posted men outside to keep an eye on us. They’re insane.”

Claire Sinclair soothed her, “Helen, don’t be angry. Mr. Quincy was right. More and more unknown forces will show up to cause trouble. We’ll just have to play it by ear.”

Helen Wallace said angrily, “Claire, you’re too nice! They’re walking all over you. You need to get angry, too! I just can’t take it, these people are nuts! Ugh, this temper of mine is making me want to hit someone!”

Claire Sinclair gave a dry laugh. “Alright, alright. Why don’t you tell Mr. Quincy about this? I won’t be the one to tell him; you can do it.”

Helen Wallace nodded. “Okay, I’ll call my brother right now.”

Helen Wallace took out her phone and walked over to the window to make the call.

She was so worked up that her voice was booming, making her sound just like a bitter wife lodging a complaint.

Claire Sinclair shook her head in resignation. The people of Quincy Manor all had different personalities, but they were similar in one respect: they were fiercely protective of their own.

‘Actually, Helen is a very endearing person.’

An image of another person popped into Claire Sinclair’s mind, unbidden.

‘Speaking of which, what’s Nancy been up to since she was fired from Quincy Manor? I haven’t seen her in so long.’

When Helen Wallace came back from her phone call, Claire Sinclair feigned nonchalance and asked, “Helen, do you know what Nancy’s up to these days?”

“Her? Why are you asking about her?” Helen Wallace retorted.

“No reason. It’s just… she was fired because of me. I was just wondering how she’s doing now.”

Helen Wallace scoffed. “Don’t you worry about her. I never liked her much, personally. She talks too much, and none of it is nice. Anyway, why do you care? Just forget about her.”

“Alright.” Seeing how reluctant Helen was to even mention her, Claire Sinclair didn’t press the issue.

「That afternoon」 A rumor surfaced on Weibo: “Word on the street is that Claire Sinclair is under investigation for suspected misappropriation of funds and has been confined to her home.”
