Chapter 694: Have I Fallen for Her?
Ethan Kingsley was silent. In fact, Corinne Linden wasn’t on his mind at all. Whether his eyes were open or closed, all he could see was that beautiful girl in a wedding dress.
He couldn’t forget the scene of her saying “I do” to another man. It replayed in his mind like a movie.
And so, he lost control, downing one glass after another in an attempt to crush the very feeling of losing control.
To his surprise, even when he was drunk, she was still the only one on his mind.
At this thought, Ethan Kingsley couldn’t help but ask, “Will Little Cutie be happy married to that cripple?”
Seth Payne couldn’t answer the question.
Ethan Kingsley was displeased. “I’m asking you a question,” he demanded. “Answer me.”
Only then did Seth Payne force himself to consider the question before answering seriously, “Lucas Rhodes is the only man who would dare to marry the Third Miss. I don’t know if they’ll be happy, but I think their union is logical.”
“Just logical?”
“That’s right,” Seth Payne replied with conviction.
Ethan Kingsley’s hands clenched awkwardly into fists. The more he thought about it, the deeper his regret became.
‘If it’s just logical, what if Little Cutie regrets it later?’
The thought of that possibility made Ethan Kingsley say at once, “Send someone to find out what Little Cutie is doing right now.”
Seth Payne nodded, slowed the car, and dialed a number, making the call on his Bluetooth headset.
A few minutes later, Seth Payne reported back, “The Third Miss is in the hospital.”
“Why is she in the hospital?” Ethan Kingsley was instantly sober.
Seth Payne laid out the whole story. “Not long after we left, Eldest Miss Thorne showed up with her people to bully the Third Miss. Claire Sinclair rescued her and took her straight to the hospital. When Lucas Rhodes found out, he was furious. He went and intercepted Aiden Howkins’s car. I hear Eldest Miss Thorne and her friends all had their hands broken.”
Hearing this, the corners of Ethan Kingsley’s lips curled up. He muttered as if to himself, “At least the kid has some sense.”
After a pause, his expression suddenly darkened. “Go to the hospital,” he said in a low voice.
Seth Payne glanced at him in the rearview mirror and reminded him, “Young Master Kingsley, the Third Miss and Lucas Rhodes just got married. I’m afraid it isn’t appropriate for you to visit her now.”
Ethan Kingsley said coldly, “Don’t talk to me about what’s appropriate. I need to know if she’s all right.”
Seth Payne dared to add, “Young Master Kingsley, don’t you think you’re becoming more and more concerned about the Third Miss lately?”
Those words finally jolted Ethan Kingsley to his senses.
‘Why do I care so much about her?’
‘A fool, a stumbling block… why do I care about someone like that?’
But the more he tried to convince himself of that, the stronger the dissenting voice in his heart grew.
He couldn’t find a single reason to explain why he was so good to her. All he knew was that if he went too long without seeing her, he would feel completely ill at ease.
‘No woman has ever made me feel this way. Could it be…?’
‘Have I fallen for her?’ The question seemed incredible, even to him.
Seth Payne let out an almost inaudible sigh. “Young Master Kingsley, you may have had too much to drink.”
Ethan Kingsley smiled. “I think you’re right.”
With that, he closed his eyes. As the alcohol took hold, he finally stopped fighting his thoughts of her. He let his mind drift to her until he passed out.

「Back at Evergreen Garden that night.」
Claire Sinclair was uncharacteristically wide awake. She got up and went into the study to see what her husband was doing.
She found Adrian Quincy completely absorbed in reviewing documents. Not wanting to disturb him, she was about to head back to bed.
Suddenly, Adrian Quincy called out to her, “Claire.”
