Chapter 690: So You Have Friends Outside Too
「On the balcony.」
Ethan Kingsley rested both hands on the railing, gazing out at the pitch-black cityscape. The darkness seemed to swallow the profound look in his eyes, making his emotions impossible to read.
It wasn’t until he heard footsteps behind him that he reined in some of the coldness in his dark eyes.
Adrian Quincy came to his side, placing one hand on the railing. He stared straight ahead as if admiring a breathtaking view.
Ethan Kingsley furrowed his brow slightly. "Shouldn’t you be with your wife? What are you doing out here?"
Adrian Quincy continued to stare ahead, his tone indifferent. "Lucas Rhodes marrying Ivy Tanner is bothering you."
Ethan Kingsley chuckled. "Is the Eldest Young Master Quincy interested in my love life now?"
Adrian Quincy’s expression remained unchanged, his tone just as flat. "Lucas Rhodes is a good man. At least Ivy Tanner won’t be mistreated with him."
Ethan Kingsley couldn’t help but turn his head to look at this baffling man. "What are you trying to say?"
"Ivy Tanner choosing Lucas Rhodes over you... wasn’t necessarily the right decision. Make of that what you will." After delivering his cryptic message, Adrian Quincy turned and left.
Ethan Kingsley rolled his eyes. ’God, I can’t stand guys who go around dishing out unsolicited advice.’
But on second thought, he felt there was something fishy about what Adrian Quincy had said.
’As a competitor, he wouldn’t go out of his way to say something so baffling to me.’
’Have I overlooked something?’
"Adrian Quincy!" Ethan Kingsley suddenly turned and shouted.
Adrian Quincy ignored him, quickly disappearing into the crowd to rejoin his wife, who was eating.
Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, "What took you so long?"
"I ran into a friend on the way and chatted for a bit."
"So you have friends out in the wild..." Claire Sinclair found the idea rather novel.
Adrian Quincy glanced at the food on the table. A few of the dishes were light in flavor; Lucas Rhodes must have prepared them especially for the two pregnant women. He asked, "Is the food to your liking?"
"It’s very good! You should try some."
"Mm." Adrian Quincy nodded, elegantly picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat.
Theo Rhodes, Henry Hartwell, and Bonnie Yates were also at the table. Seeing the couple’s blatant public display of affection, everyone seemed to have grown accustomed to it.
It was rare for everyone to gather for a meal like this, and Theo Rhodes couldn’t sit still. Ready to liven things up, he raised his glass with a mischievous grin. "Master, Sir, Hanson, and Bonnie, let’s clink our glasses!"
Claire Sinclair glanced at the glass of juice in front of her, then looked to Adrian Quincy for permission. "Is it okay?"
Adrian Quincy nodded.
Only then did Claire Sinclair raise her glass, clinking it against everyone else’s, making a soft tinkling sound.
Soon, Theo Rhodes had successfully livened up the atmosphere.
Claire Sinclair found herself laughing at his antics from time to time, but for the most part, she couldn’t get a word in edgewise.
Before she knew it, her stomach was feeling a bit full and she needed to use the restroom. She turned to Adrian Quincy. "Adrian, I’m going to the restroom."
Adrian Quincy took her small hand and said in a low voice, "I’ll go with you."
Claire Sinclair pushed him back down into his seat and said, exasperated, "It’s just the restroom. You stay here and have fun with them. I haven’t seen you smile like this in a long time, so don’t let me spoil your fun."
Adrian Quincy was silent for a moment before finally nodding.
Claire Sinclair got up and walked to the women’s restroom at the back of the hall.
After taking care of business, she washed her hands and was heading out when a woman came rushing in. Unable to dodge in time, Claire’s shoulder was bumped, and her clutch was knocked to the floor.
"I’m so sorry!" the woman apologized, quickly picking up the clutch and handing it back to her before rushing into one of the stalls.
