Chapter 683: There’s Definitely Something Fishy
’Ariel O’Malley...’
Claire Sinclair made a mental note of the name and looked her up on Weibo. She discovered that this Ariel O’Malley loved to share uplifting posts.
Aside from some medical tips, she often posted about the charity events she participated in or urged her followers to care for animals. She occasionally posted selfies, but they were few and far between.
Ariel O’Malley didn’t have many followers, only a couple thousand, but there was engagement on every single post. It was clear she was a girl who spent a lot of time online.
’Based on this alone, there’s nothing to suggest anything is wrong with this woman.’
Claire Sinclair couldn’t understand. ’Could there really be a connection between Ariel O’Malley and Mrs. Quincy?’
’But Mr. Quincy has already gotten involved, so there must be something fishy about this.’
’Ugh, this is so frustrating. I just can’t figure it out.’
Claire Sinclair ran a hand through her hair in frustration, then rested it on her slightly rounded belly. She whispered, "Baby, do you miss Daddy? I miss him so much."
’I haven’t seen him in days. I really do miss him, huh?’
Claire Sinclair sighed. Just as she was about to get up and find something to eat, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she rushed to open the door.
She almost called out "Mr. Quincy," but when she opened the door, it wasn’t him. Instead, it was the young man who lived next door.
The young man was rather handsome and seemed very low-key. She had no idea what great deed he’d done to afford a house in Evergreen Garden at such a young age.
The young man spoke politely, "Hello, I’m the owner of the villa at number 24, next door. I was wondering if I could pick some mint leaves from your backyard?"
’Mint leaves?’
That’s right. She remembered now. When she’d gone to the flower and bird market to buy seeds for Ivy Tanner, she had kept a few for herself.
She loved the scent of mint, so she’d scattered some seeds in the dirt. But after watering them once, she’d completely forgotten about them. ’Have they actually sprouted?’
When she didn’t answer, the young man said, a little abashed, "If it’s not convenient, then never mind."
"Not at all. Feel free to pick as many mint leaves as you like, just as long as you don’t damage the other flowers and plants."
"Great, thank you!" The young man smiled and turned to leave.
He suddenly remembered something, stopped, and turned back to her. "Oh, by the way, Claire Sinclair, you should update that novel of yours soon. My sister is a big fan."
Claire Sinclair: "..."
’If he hadn’t mentioned it, she would’ve completely forgotten she’d abandoned a novel.’
The young man turned and left.
Claire Sinclair went back into the living room and walked to the window. In the distance, she saw him squatting in front of the flowerbed in her backyard, carefully picking a few mint leaves.
’So he really did just come to pick leaves...’
’Oh well. I’ll just let him be.’
Claire Sinclair went upstairs, ready to turn on her computer. She wanted to see if she could pick up the novel she had abandoned half a year ago and start updating it again.
After the computer booted up, she read a few Chapters of the novel, but for the life of her, she couldn’t figure out how to continue the story. In the end, she gave up.
-
Early the next morning, Claire Sinclair was woken by a series of urgent knocks on the door. Without even having time to brush her teeth or wash her face, she threw on some clothes and hurried downstairs.
When she got to the door, she peered through the peephole. Two unfamiliar men...
Claire Sinclair didn’t open the door right away. Instead, she called out, "Who are you?"
"Hello, Miss Sinclair. We’re detectives. There was a theft in the neighborhood, and we noticed you have a security camera by your front door. We’d like to review the footage."
’Review the footage?’
Claire Sinclair was skeptical, but then she remembered that The Great Demon King Quincy’s men were nearby, which emboldened her enough to open the door.
The two plainclothes detectives readily showed her their badges. Claire Sinclair confirmed their identities before letting them in to take a seat. However, she had no intention of letting them into the surveillance room—not unless they were The Great Demon King Quincy’s men.
