Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 208 207: Watch Out

Wang Dongdong's plastic surgery was attracting a great deal of attention at the Plastic Surgery Center.

The incident at the center a few days prior had shaken the staff to their core. As morale wavered, rumors and gossip began to circulate.

The most widespread rumor was this:

The incident was a move by Director Wang Chuan to eliminate his rivals and clear a path for Yan Feifan's future advancement.

The reason Wang Chuan held Yan Feifan in such high regard was because Yan Feifan was his illegitimate son from his wild younger days.

Just think about everything Wang Chuan had done for Yan Feifan recently.

Lending Yan Feifan that large house at Zuimo Court to live in, rent-free.

Paying out of his own pocket for absorbable sutures and other medical supplies so Yan Feifan could practice his suturing skills.

Abusing his position for personal gain, using a charity project as a front to let Yan Feifan practice on poor, disabled children from an orphanage.

He even stooped to acting as a surgical assistant to guide and protect Yan Feifan.

All these actions had long since crossed the line of what was considered normal concern for a student from their teacher.

It would be a miracle if there wasn't something strange going on between the two of them.

The rumor was so detailed and supported by so many concrete facts that quite a few people secretly believed it was true.

Of course, the veteran staff at the Plastic Surgery Center scoffed at this rumor.

They all knew the real reason Wang Chuan had changed his specialty to become a plastic surgeon and why his skills had advanced by leaps and bounds.

It was all for his daughter, Yanyan.

Two or three years ago, Wang Chuan had poured all his efforts into training Tang Zheng for the very same reason.

But while Tang Zheng was excellent, he wasn't exceptional. Wang Chuan saw little hope of him surpassing his own skills anytime soon.

And so, Tang Zheng was cast aside.

Yan Feifan had become Wang Chuan's new hope.

They, too, had been closely watching this young medical prodigy who had recently shot to fame.

Recently, Yan Feifan had performed several surgeries at the Plastic Surgery Center, and judging by the patients' recoveries, the results could only be described as stunning.

But undeniably, these few surgeries still weren't quite convincing enough.

They had all witnessed Wang Dongdong's incredibly peculiar facial features with their own eyes.

Moreover, encountering such a rare case, their professional instincts kicked in, and they all began to secretly strategize.

If they were the lead surgeons, what could they transform this astonishing girl's 'divinely-crafted' face into?

Therefore, this surgery carried enough weight to be seen by the other plastic surgeons at the center as a touchstone—a way to measure just how brilliant and talented Yan Feifan truly was...

Close to one in the afternoon, as scheduled, Wang Chuan and his team, including Jio Xin, finished their preparations and entered the operating room.

Wang Chuan approached the operating table and saw that Yan Feifan seemed completely oblivious to his arrival, still engrossed in the procedure.

He gestured for Yu Suye, Meng Yao, and the others not to disturb Yan Feifan, and simply stood to the side, observing his work.

At that moment, Yan Feifan was reshaping the tip of the patient's nose.

Rhinoplasty was a procedure he had been focusing on lately.

Wang Chuan could see that Yan Feifan's technique was now incredibly polished. He moved with practiced ease, his actions fluid and effortless.

Plastic surgery is all about slow, meticulous work yielding fine results. Yan Feifan's movements—dissecting muscle, making incisions, suturing—were all deliberate and smooth.

But there were no pauses or abrupt shifts between his movements. They flowed one into the next as naturally as running water.

This made his pace deceptively fast; though his motions seemed unhurried, he was working more than twice as fast as the average plastic surgeon.

Wang Chuan had already done his own calculations for Wang Dongdong's surgery.

He had estimated that if he were the lead surgeon, the entire procedure would take no less than twelve hours.

It's nearly impossible for anyone to maintain focus for twelve straight hours.

Therefore, Wang Chuan would have split the operation into two separate procedures.

This, of course, would significantly increase the patient's suffering, recovery time, and the overall cost of the surgery...

As Wang Chuan observed Yan Feifan's hands, he suddenly noticed something out of the corner of his eye.

The visible parts of Yan Feifan's face, his eyes and brows, conveyed a sense of pure joy, as if he were engaged in the most wonderful activity in the world.

'This guy is actually enjoying the surgery.'

The realization struck Wang Chuan in an instant.

He'd had that feeling himself before.

There was a time when it had been quite frequent, in fact.

That was during the years when his own surgical skills were advancing by leaps and bounds, as if he had finally had a breakthrough.

But for the past three or four years, his own skills seemed to have hit a plateau. As Yanyan grew older, his anxiety mounted with each passing day, and it had been a long, long time since he had felt that kind of joy.

'This kid... he really is a born surgeon!'

Wang Chuan rejoiced inwardly and continued to watch.

It wasn't until nearly two in the afternoon that Yan Feifan finally emerged from his state of total immersion in the surgery and noticed Wang Chuan's presence.

"Oh, Director, you're here."

"What time is it?"

"1:55 PM!" Ye Lin answered loudly.

Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgment.

Then, as he continued to operate, he took stock of his own stamina and energy levels...

After a moment of assessment, Yan Feifan made his decision. "Director, I think I can keep going until the end."

"Maybe you should head back?"

"You're sure?"

Wang Chuan cautioned, "There are still almost four hours left. Don't overestimate your own limits."

Yan Feifan assessed his physical and mental state once more, then nodded. "Director, I'm certain I can."

He added, "I wouldn't jeopardize the quality of the patient's surgery or my own health."

"Director, I can really keep going."

Wang Chuan smiled. "If you can keep going, that's for the best. I don't have any other plans this afternoon, so I'll stay here and supervise. Don't want anyone reporting me to the Disciplinary Committee again."

Yan Feifan knew the real reason the director was staying was that he was still worried Yan Feifan wouldn't be able to make it to the end.

He glanced at Yu Suye across the operating table. "Su Ye, you should go take a break."

"And Meng Yao, Ye Lin, you two should take a break as well!"

Yu Suye retorted defiantly, "Feifan, if you can keep going, so can I. And seriously, don't think just because you're the man here... between the two of us right now, your physical condition is way worse than mine."

Yan Feifan just smiled, not bothering to argue.

Just then, Meng Yao's voice reached him. "Mr. Yan, I wasn't prepared for such a long surgery. I don't think I can keep going."

Yan Feifan immediately instructed, "Meng Yao, go take a break."

And so, Jio Xin took over Meng Yao's duties as the scrub nurse.

As for Ye Lin, she was the circulating nurse, so she could take short breaks now and then.

Whenever the operating room needed medication or other equipment urgently, it was the circulating nurse's job to run out and retrieve it.

That meant the circulating nurse could move about freely within the operating room.

She was far more comfortable than Yan Feifan and the others, who were confined to the sterile field around the operating table.

Ye Lin passionately declared that she would stay with Mr. Yan until the end of time; as long as he didn't step away from the table, neither would she...

After the brief, cheerful handover, the operating room settled back into its normal, focused rhythm.

Yan Feifan had to admit, Jio Xin's competence was a cut above Meng Yao's.

The way she handed him the instruments was just so smooth.

With Jio Xin assisting, Yan Feifan once again sank into that state of total immersion...

An unknown amount of time passed. Suddenly, Yan Feifan felt a jolt, and at the same instant, Yiyi's panicked shout echoed in his mind.

'Watch out, your right hand!'

On pure instinct, Yan Feifan yanked back the right hand he had extended to receive an instrument.

Just then, two startled gasps echoed in his ears.

"Watch out!"

"Watch out!"
