The Psychopathic Beast Emperor

Chapter 157: Destiny Draws Us Closer and Closer

The forest was too quiet. Not the peaceful kind of quiet... but the kind that pressed against the ears and made the skin crawl. Tall, ancient trees stretched endlessly into the sky, their thick canopies choking out most of the sunlight. What little light filtered through painted the ground in fractured gold, barely enough to illuminate the thick undergrowth and winding roots.

A group of seven moved carefully through the terrain. They were seasoned hunters. Each step they took was calculated, each breath controlled, each movement silent. Their formation shifted naturally as they advanced, covering blind spots without needing to speak.

At the front was a broad-shouldered man with a scar running across his jaw, his hand resting on the hilt of a heavy blade strapped to his back. His eyes scanned constantly, never settling.

Behind him, a woman with short silver hair crouched low, fingers brushing the earth as she tracked something only she could sense. Her nose twitched slightly.

"It’s close," she whispered.

The group slowed. A tall man to the right adjusted his grip on a long spear, his eyes narrowing.

"How strong?"

The silver-haired woman hesitated.

"Too strong."

Silence followed. One of the younger members swallowed.

"Then why are we still here?"

The leader didn’t look back.

"Because we came for it."

His tone was final, and no one argued. They spread out slightly, their formation tightening, weapons loosened, muscles coiled. The forest seemed to hold its breath with them.

Then a sound came, low and deep. A rumble that didn’t belong. Every head snapped toward the source. The bushes ahead...

"Show yourself," the leader said, his voice low but firm. But nothing happened. Then, two golden lights appeared in the darkness. Eyes, massive, piercing, and unblinking. They were watching. A chill ran down their spines.

Slowly, it stepped out, and the world seemed to shrink. The beast towered over them. It was easily twice the size of a normal wolf, its body elongated and powerful, muscles rippling beneath a terrifying blend of thick fur and hardened scales. Crimson fur flowed along its body like fire, broken by white streaks that traced its limbs and spine, while patches of red scales glinted faintly under the dim light.

Its head was wrong. It was too sharp and too predatory. A wolf’s shape, but with draconic ridges running along its skull, its jaw lined with rows of serrated teeth that gleamed wetly. Its breath came out slow, hot, and visible. Its golden eyes locked onto them.

The ground trembled slightly as it took a step forward. No one spoke. No one needed to. They all knew what they were facing.

Tier 3.

And not a weak one.

"Formation Delta," the leader said quietly.

Instantly, they moved. The spear wielder shifted to the front left, another with dual blades flanked the right, while the rear tightened, covering escape routes. The silver-haired tracker stepped back, her hands already moving as she prepared to assist.

They were ready. The beast... watched. Then it smiled, or at least... its lips pulled back just enough to reveal more of its teeth.

And it moved.

BOOM!

The ground exploded beneath it. It was too fast. Way too fast.

"LEFT!" Someone shouted, but it was too late.

CRASH!

One of them was gone. The beast had crossed the distance in an instant, its jaws clamping down around a man’s torso before anyone could react.

Blood sprayed as the body was torn in half. The upper half dangled from its mouth, while the lower half hit the ground with a wet thud. Screams erupted.

"DON’T PANIC!"

The leader roared, already moving. His blade came out in a blur.

SLASH!

It struck the beast’s side, and sparks flew. The blade barely cut through the scales. The beast’s eye flicked toward him. Then, its tail moved.

WHIP!

The impact was devastating. The leader’s body was launched across the clearing, smashing through two trees before hitting the ground.

"Captain!"

The spear wielder charged. His weapon shot forward with precision.

THRUST!

The spear struck the beast’s neck and slid off.

"What?!"

The beast’s head snapped toward him. Too close. Way too close. Its claws came down.

CRUNCH!

The spear wielder’s body folded unnaturally as he was slammed into the ground, bones breaking on impact. He didn’t get back up. The remaining members tightened. Fear was there, but so was discipline. They attacked together.

BLADES FLASHED!

They moved with perfect synchrony, striking from multiple angles, forcing the beast to react. For a moment, it worked. Small cuts. Minor damage. They pushed it, forced it back a step. Hope flickered.

Then, the beast exhaled. A low rumble vibrated through its chest, and its eyes glowed brighter.

BOOM!

It surged forward again. This time, there was no holding back. Claws tore through flesh. Teeth crushed bone. Bodies were ripped apart before they could even scream. One tried to run. He made it three steps... only.

The beast appeared in front of him.

SNAP!

And he was gone. Another climbed a tree, desperate. The beast leapt. Higher than it should have been able to.

CRASH!

The tree split in half as both fell. Silence followed, heavy and thick.

The last one left was the silver-haired tracker. She stood frozen, with her hands trembling and her eyes wide. She had seen it all, every second, every death.

"Monster..." she whispered.

The beast turned to her slowly. Blood dripped from its jaws. Its golden eyes locked onto hers in a mocking glint as if asking her what it was supposed to be rather than a monster. She tried to move. Her body didn’t respond.

It stepped closer slowly and predatory. Tears streamed down her face.

"Please..."

The beast tilted its head. Then, it opened its mouth and lunged. The forest fell silent once more. Only the sound of something feeding echoed faintly before even that disappeared, leaving nothing behind.

Nothing but blood.

...

A pair of golden eyes glimmered as the beast licked its lips.

"Mortals are always delicious. I might get addicted..." a deep voice sounded from the beast. "But... I have to find the young master. Those fanatics are on the loose again."

Its eyes glowed and turned into silver and back.

"Destiny draws us closer and closer. We will meet soon."
