Chapter 444 - 434: The Trick of the Onmyoji!
The meal was winding down. After several rounds of drinks and courses, the three men set down their bowls and chopsticks, even though about half of the mountain and sea delicacies on the table remained untouched. They picked up their napkins and wiped their mouths.
Qin Fan broke the silence. "Mr. Gao, tell me about the Yamamoto Group."
Caught off guard by Qin Fan’s sudden question, Gao Qi was slightly startled.
The Yamamoto Group? Why bring up the Yamamoto Group all of a sudden? Is this visit really about them?
Though he had many unanswered questions, Gao Qi still nodded and responded, "Master Qin, the Yamamoto Group is a pharmaceutical company and is undeniably number one in Japan’s pharmaceutical industry. Although it appears to be a private enterprise to the outside world, my investigations have shown that it has substantial official backing. I suspect that without the Japanese government’s significant covert support, it would never have reached its current status so quickly. The Yamamoto Group’s main base is not in this Central Business District but is established in the Qiantian District. That district is also home to the Jingguo Society—a source of deep-seated hatred for us Chinese people. The man at the helm of the Yamamoto Group is Yamamoto Ichiro, who is a Prince Consort of the Japanese Royal Family and a rather extreme individual. He has openly praised the Japanese military of World War II on numerous occasions. More than once, I considered dealing with him myself, but I was always overruled by my superiors."
After slowly finishing his explanation, Gao Qi paused before asking, "By the way, Master Qin, why are you asking about the Yamamoto Group?"
"You’ll find out soon enough," Qin Fan said with a teasing smile.
His words had barely faded when he turned his head to look out the floor-to-ceiling windows. But the sight made him frown involuntarily.
Seeing Qin Fan’s sudden change in expression, Hua Xiaotian and Gao Qi were also taken aback. They instinctively followed his gaze out the window.
Several brightly colored butterflies were flitting and dancing in the air just outside the glass.
Butterflies at an altitude of over a hundred meters? And such vivid, colorful ones at that?
Watching the fluttering butterflies, not only Gao Qi but even Hua Xiaotian furrowed his brows.
「At the same time.」
In a secluded teahouse in Japan, the teacups and teapots that had been on the table were gone. In their place was a shimmering layer of water, on which the scene from the Hua Sheng Group’s banquet hall was being displayed. The images of Qin Fan, Hua Xiaotian, and Gao Qi were clearly visible in the water.
It was more like live video surveillance! And this was a technique of the Japanese Onmyoji!
"Sango-kun, do you think the Chinese have noticed?" one of the middle-aged men asked, seeing the reflection of Qin Fan and the others staring out the window.
"What does it matter if they’ve noticed or not?" the leading middle-aged man scoffed indifferently, extending his thumb and pointing it downward. "The Chinese are nothing."
However, the words had barely left his lips when, in the next second, a look of utter shock appeared on his face.
In the reflection on the water, Qin Fan suddenly sprang into action. Like a released spring, he instantly appeared before the floor-to-ceiling window and pressed his hand against the glass.
This single gesture caused the colorful butterflies outside to be pulled toward him. Their flapping wings could no longer carry them away; they were sucked against the window inch by inch.
Slowly, they seeped into the glass.
Gradually, they passed through it.
Finally, they landed in Qin Fan’s hand.
「Back in the tea room.」
"Baka yarou! H-How is this possible!" the leading middle-aged man cried out, violently shaken. He shot up from the floor, his face a mask of disbelief.
The other middle-aged men also scrambled to their feet, equally horrified.
What shocked them wasn’t Qin Fan’s ability to retrieve objects from a distance. It was the fact that the butterflies had passed through the bulletproof glass. Most importantly, the window itself was completely undamaged!
Is this a magic trick? If these butterflies hadn’t been created with my own secret technique, I would never have believed this was real!
「In the top-floor banquet hall of the Hua Sheng Group.」
After activating his Eyes of Golden Flame and seeing through the true form of the butterflies, a smirk of pure, playful malice spread across Qin Fan’s face.
He chuckled, cupping the butterflies in his palm. Just as Hua Xiaotian and Gao Qi were about to ask what was happening, he roared with laughter and shouted, "Baka yarou!"
Yes. They had heard correctly. He yelled, "Baka yarou!"
Hua Xiaotian was stunned.
Gao Qi was dumbfounded.
What in the world is going on?
Before they could utter a word, Qin Fan clenched his fist. The butterflies were instantly crushed within his palm. The next second, they transformed into a trickle of still-warm tea that dripped from between his fingers.
「In the distant teahouse.」
The pool of water on the table suddenly exploded, splashing the stunned middle-aged men.
An Yin Yang Secret Technique used for gathering intelligence had been broken by Qin Fan with contemptuous ease.
Silence.
A deathly silence descended upon the private room. None of the men spoke; they hardly dared to breathe.
Moments later, the leader’s face was a dark stormcloud. He grit his teeth and hissed, "To quote a Chinese proverb, ’Letting the tiger return to the mountain spells endless disaster’! Therefore, this man absolutely, absolutely, absolutely must not be allowed to return to Huaxia alive! Baka!"
The triple use of "absolutely" revealed the profound dread this invisible exchange had instilled in him. He also knew that Qin Fan’s cry of "Baka yarou!" was directed at them. That young Grandmaster had clearly seen through their entire ruse.
"Master Qin, what’s happening?" Hua Xiaotian asked, his eyes wide with astonishment. From the liquid trickling from Qin Fan’s hand, he could already smell the distinct aroma of tea—specifically, pre-Qingming Longjing.
But Qin Fan had been holding colorful butterflies... where did the tea come from? He had to admit, his knowledge was far too limited!
"Have you never dealt with a Japanese Onmyoji before?" Qin Fan asked, smiling as he patted his wet hands dry.
"No!" Hua Xiaotian replied firmly. Then, as if a realization dawned on him, he exclaimed, "Master Qin, are you saying this was the work of an Onmyoji?"
"That’s more or less it," Qin Fan explained with a faint smile. "Those butterflies were just illusions created from tea. The lineage of Onmyoji, it seems, is indeed quite remarkable."
"What!" Gao Qi and Hua Xiaotian exclaimed in unison.
Tea transformed into butterflies? What kind of Divine Skill is that? Is this the power of an Onmyoji?
Listening to their shocked cries, Qin Fan shook his head. "Hasn’t Demi Immortal Qi Lian ever told you about them? Then again, with your current Martial Arts Cultivation, he probably thinks it’s not yet time for you to know. Also, if I’m not mistaken, this is likely just a rudimentary technique for an Onmyoji. This trip to Japan has just become interesting."
This is just a rudimentary technique?
At Qin Fan’s words, both Hua Xiaotian and Gao Qi felt the corners of their mouths twitch uncontrollably.
Seeing the shock on Hua Xiaotian’s face, Qin Fan walked over and patted his shoulder. "Every field has its specialists. Onmyoji are probably no different. To put it another way, they’re similar to our Huaxia Magicians. So, stop overreacting and selling yourselves short."
As Qin Fan finished speaking, Gao Qi’s phone, which was lying on the dining table, suddenly began to vibrate.
