Eternal Life: I Have the Favor System

Chapter 692 - 291: Telekinesis Evolution

Chu Lingguang followed Steward Zhou to the entrance of a magnificent cave residence.

Even Cultivators couldn’t escape worldly matters and social customs. In fact, the more powerful a Cultivator was, the more particular they became about their living conditions, refusing to settle for less.

The cave residence before him was the most imposing one Chu Lingguang had seen since entering the Profound Celestial Sect.

He wondered what kind of person lived inside.

"Master Yang, I’ve brought Chu Lingguang."

Steward Zhou bowed toward the cave residence.

Chu Lingguang remained quiet. Steward Zhou had addressed the person in the cave as "Master," which meant the owner of this residence had to be a top figure in the Profound Celestial Sect—no ordinary existence.

Not daring to act rashly, Chu Lingguang followed suit and bowed as well.

"Come in."

A powerful, resonant voice echoed from within.

"Test him. If he reaches the third rank, he can stay. Anyone below that, hand them over to someone else."

the person inside the cave residence said.

"Yes."

Zhou Changqing nodded.

Chu Lingguang peered into the cave residence but couldn’t see a single soul.

Outside the cave, there was a stone table. On it sat a bronze mirror, its surface rippling as if it contained an entire world.

"Sit in front of the bronze mirror,"

Zhou Changqing instructed Chu Lingguang.

Though confused and wary, Chu Lingguang could only comply. He obediently sat down before the bronze mirror.

BUZZ.

The moment he sat down, Chu Lingguang saw the ripples in the mirror surge toward him like tidal waves. He had nowhere to run as he was engulfed by the waves, swallowed, and absorbed into the mirror.

His vision changed.

"Guang’Er, are you done with your fist practice?"

A woman walking out from the courtyard of a wealthy household called out to Chu Lingguang.

"Second Aunt."

Chu Lingguang looked over and saw it was his Second Aunt, Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family.

He was somehow back at the entrance of the Martial Arts Hall.

"Let’s walk together!"

Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family said.

"Second Aunt, you’re getting off work so early today?"

he couldn’t help but ask.

"Come with me."

Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family pulled Chu Lingguang away from the entrance to Landlord Wang’s home and sighed. "Young Master Wang made a mistake. The Wang Family has to sell their mansion, and they’ve let me go."

"What? What did Young Master Wang do?"

Chu Lingguang was completely caught off guard. He instinctively recalled that the Wang Family were local gentry and Master Wang was a respectable figure. For the Wang Family to collapse just like that was unthinkable.

"Young Master Wang offended a Martial Arts Scholar. Master Wang had to spend his entire family fortune just to save Young Master Wang’s life," Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family explained.

"Is Young Master Wang insane?"

Chu Lingguang exclaimed in shock.

"Never mind him. Let me ask you, how is your fist practice coming along?"

Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family asked.

"Master Guo advised me to give up."

The stern face of Guo Wei appeared in Chu Lingguang’s mind.

"If you hadn’t sold the fields back then, maybe you and Chun Ju..." Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family sighed, then said, "I rendered two pounds of lard yesterday. Take a bowl home with you later."

"There’s no need, Second Aunt. We still have... Wait. This is wrong. It’s an illusion!"

Chu Lingguang suddenly exclaimed in realization.

The scene before him vanished.

His whole body trembled violently.

He was back in the cave, drenched in sweat, sitting at the stone table and facing the bronze mirror again. The ripples on its surface were still blooming, but he no longer felt like he was being swallowed.

’What a powerful Consciousness Attack,’ Chu Lingguang thought. ’It created an illusion and almost trapped me in my memories.’

When his vision first disappeared, he had considered that it might be an illusion, but that thought was instantly suppressed by the power within the mirror.

It was as if he had completely relived the scene of meeting Mrs. Chu of the Zhang Family at the entrance to the Martial Arts Hall.

Fortunately, he had snapped out of it at the critical moment.

He hadn’t fallen deeper into the trap.

The feeling of his consciousness being manipulated, of living in a world dictated by someone else, sent a chill down Chu Lingguang’s spine. He never imagined that Telekinesis could be so powerful as to make him feel like he had truly returned to the past, experiencing it all firsthand.

"Master Yang, the test is over. He’s right at the third rank."

Steward Zhou reported to the person in the cave, having seen three distinct layers of ripples appear on the bronze mirror.

"Good. He stays,"

the person in the cave said.

"This disciple will take his leave."

Steward Zhou gave Chu Lingguang an envious look, then bowed, backed away, and gradually disappeared from sight.

"Read the book on the table a few times. It will give you a clearer understanding of Telekinesis,"

the person inside the cave said.

Chu Lingguang was taken aback. He looked at the table again and, for some reason, a Black Book had appeared there. He clearly remembered that there had only been a bronze mirror on the table before.

’Oh, that’s not right.’

The bronze mirror was gone now, too.

’It seems the person in this cave is unfathomably powerful,’ he thought. ’They must have used a Magic Technique to retrieve the mirror and leave the Black Book without me even noticing.’

"Yes."

Chu Lingguang didn’t overthink it. He picked up the Black Book and began to read it carefully.

He ended up reading for the entire day.

Through the explanations in the Black Book, Chu Lingguang came to realize that Telekinesis was a power that transcended the Five Elements. This gave it a natural advantage in combat, and it could resonate with any of the powers within the Five Elements.

Not only could it directly strike the soul and stun the mind, but it could also enhance Magic Techniques, and even cause them to transform.

The prerequisite was that one’s Telekinesis had to be strong enough, and one had to know how to wield this power.

From the Black Book, Chu Lingguang also learned that, like a Spiritual Root, Telekinesis had its own ranking system. There were ten stages in total, which, much like the six levels of a Dharma Aspect, could be continuously evolved.

According to the book, everyone possessed the potential for Telekinesis. The difference lay in whether or not they could activate and awaken this power. Some were exceptionally talented and could awaken it on their own without needing to cultivate through Magic Techniques.

Others had a unique Sea of Consciousness and could never awaken their Telekinesis, no matter how hard they tried.
