My Tribrid System: More than a Monster

Chapter 187: Vine Snakes: Final Cleanup (6)

Chapter 185

No form of escape remained, and there was no place left to turn.

Six beasts surrounded the beautiful, cold girl, and yet she appeared completely unfazed by the precarious situation.

Though her path of retreat was cut off, she didn’t look bothered in the slightest.

It wasn’t as if she were planning on escaping, though.

Frost began speeding down her blade as she suddenly bolted toward one of the snakes positioned in front of her.

Bringing her sword down in a smooth, clean arc, the beast was split in half before it could even hiss.

Twisting her body around fluidly, she thrust her weapon forward, impaling the head of another serpent.

Then, dragging the steel upward with practiced strength, she split the skull open entirely.

Reversing her grip on the hilt, she thrust the blade backward, driving it into the head of a third beast that had tried sneaking up on her from behind.

Twirling around in a blur of motion, she flung the dead snake off her sword with a sharp flick of her wrist.

Her light blue hair fluttered in the air as she quickly leaped backward in order to avoid any secondary ambush laying in wait for her.

Three beasts were down in a mere five seconds, while the remaining trio hissed at her angrily, their yellow eyes glowing with malice.

They rushed toward her simultaneously.

The girl just let out a soft breath of air, and a thin mist crept out from between her lips.

Lifting her sword up, she pointed the blade toward herself for a heartbeat before she swiftly sheathed it.

She then proceeded to cock her hand behind her body, frost rapidly forming around her fist, and delivered a powerful thrust forward.

An ice column the size of a fist shot through the air, turning the head of one of the three predators into a bloody pulp.

The remaining two beasts suddenly froze right in their tracks at this terrifying sight.

Ten monsters had challenged her, and the beautiful human had eviscerated eight of them with the precise, elegant skill of her sword and ability.

She hadn’t suffered a single scratch on her beautiful ivory skin.

The only expression that had been on her face from the start until now was one of pure coldness.

Her features looked as icy as the very ability she wielded.

Seeing this level of dominance, the vine snakes shuddered and slowly began slithering backward as they stared into those beautiful but frozen blue eyes.

The kind of primal fear they felt when in the presence of a much stronger predator gripped their hearts, making them retreat in haste.

In no time, they spun around, trying to get as far away from the female as humanly possible.

Trisha stared at this scene calmly, her gaze following their desperate flight.

Pointing her palm toward the retreating beasts, two ice shards burst forward and immediately struck the snakes’ tails, pinning them to the ground and not allowing them to actually move their bodies further.

Calmly walking toward the trapped creatures, she towered above them like an executioner.

In one fluid motion, her sword was drawn once again, and with a silver flash, the beasts lay motionless.

They were utterly eviscerated by the ice queen herself.

Staring at her sword, which dripped with black ichor, she waved it through the air to fling the liquid off, a look of deep disgust crossing her face.

She said nothing.

There was no victory speech and no gloating over her fallen foes.

There was only utter callousness as she proceeded to sheath the sword back in its scabbard and turned her attention back to the rest of the forest.

The vine snake was just an inch away from biting into Kai’s face when a loud, sharp whistle from behind it was heard.

An arrow darted through the air, smashing into the beast from behind.

With something forcefully crashing into the projectile’s shaft, it drove deeper until the tip emerged from the other end, with black blood spraying toward Kai.

Leaping aside, he narrowly avoided the ichor from tainting his clean face.

When the beast crashed into the dirt, he turned to see exactly who had saved him.

It was Chloe.

She panted heavily, and her fingers looked bruised from the strain.

Right from the beginning of the sudden ambush, she had been drawing her bow nonstop.

At the same time, she had been using her ability to further boost the arrows she let loose.

It wasn’t an easy feat, as she was constantly moving around the forest to get a clear shot while staying within range so she could use her ability properly.

She was saving her fellow Aspirants from the pinch of death.

She had been the one to send that arrow into the eye of the other beast that had bitten the Aspirant on the neck earlier.

When she saw the boy crumple to the ground, fear had clawed at her almost instantly as she stared at the boy’s motionless body.

But the scream of a girl about to meet the same fate jolted her back to reality.

From there, she tried everything in her absolute power to save as many people as she could.

Her fingers were peeling, but she still held on and continuously drew on the bow.

Since it was a beast weapon of the advanced rank, it took a great deal of strength to constantly draw on its string.

It wasn’t an easy task to perform.

In fact, she hadn’t been able to easily draw on it the first time she used it, but constant usage and her training with Kai helped increase her physical strength.

If earlier she couldn’t handle a grade 2.5 meta-human, now with this weapon, she could stand her ground with a grade 3 meta.

Whether she could win or not would depend entirely on her opponent.

Giving her a brief nod of his head, Kai sauntered over as he slipped the bandana back onto his forehead.

Standing before her, he said:

"Thank you for saving me."

Chloe blushed as she stared at the handsome boy before her.

Awkwardly rubbing her arm, she replied:

"I’m sure you didn’t need my help, but I couldn’t stand around, hence I had to."

Kai just nodded at her and then gave the forest a quick scan.

"Well, I guess you don’t need to help anymore." He added this as he could see that the vine beasts were being packed up by the remaining Aspirants.

Trish joined in to make things faster and also acquire more points for the squad.

The beasts they had been killing had been giving them points all along, which Kai actually noticed because his bracelet wouldn’t stop vibrating with every beast he took down.

He beamed as a thought flashed through his mind.

’Come to think of it, we have probably hunted more than thirty beasts between us five. I wonder how many points that is.’
