But just as she was relaxing, the dragon emperor asked her, saying, "What were you saying?"
In response, she shook her head and said, "I was just saying how much I loved being of service to you."
The dragon emperor narrowed his eyes in suspicion at her. He didn’t speak. He just stared at her as if he would eat her at any moment.
When the silence reached the point where the cries of the slaves working away down below, working for their masters, reached them at the summit, the dragon emperor finally spoke.

Sloan ran away as if she had been pardoned, which she had. Her four feet stamped the ground in a hurry as she tried her best to gain speed and put as much distance between her and the dragon emperor.
When she was of sufficiently respectable distance from the dragon emperor, she spread her wings and took off into the air. She ran away without once looking back for fear of being called back.
Watching her leave in fear of her life, the dragon emperor chuckled and said, "What an amusing bunch. Running away with a tail coiled away as if I would eat her."
"Young dragons are so dramatic. Their spines are weak, and they lack courage. At this rate, they won’t amount to anything worthwhile."
He knew why she was running away, and he knew why she was pleading for her life. At any other time, this was an offense worthy of death. But he was in a good mood, so he let her go.
