Chapter 629: Self Righteous Bastard
Xavier had been flooded with words of condolence the moment he reached the academy group, but he had kept his posture poised and taken every word with a calm but empty gaze.
Eventually, they had all finished, professors and students alike, and he had gone right back to standing with Ezra and Julian while they waited.
What he would never have expected was for Elion to show up like this, looking completely unbothered.
There had to be a limit to how thick one’s skin could be, after all, but now he knew he was wrong.
You would have expected Xavier to lash out, or at least rush over to stand among those waiting to ambush Elion and ask him the question ringing in his mind.
Had he done it?
But Xavier had done neither.
He was still standing frozen near the edge of the docking area overlooking the ocean, unable to move. Not because he was too afraid to approach Elion, but simply because he was too shocked.
His eyes had to be playing tricks on him, or maybe his senses were failing him.
While everyone else was so enthralled by Elion’s outward appearance and his brazen return, the first thing Xavier had done, as he usually did with troublesome people, was to check Elion’s mana core cultivation rank.
It had been quite easy, in fact, and it was clear that Elion was flaunting his strength, since he made no effort to suppress the chaotic energy clinging to his body. Each time he breathed, a massive amount of mana seemed to vanish into his body.
What Xavier was sensing was Elion’s High Mage rank!
How is such a thing even possible?
He found himself frowning, unable to make sense of what was right in front of him. Even the death of his father seemed to take a back seat at this point.
He could not conceive it!
Evander and Halbrecht, the latter of whom was among the professors escorting the students, had reactions similar to Xavier’s own.
They could all feel the oppressive aura clinging to Elion, but only those with sufficiently sharp senses could notice it. To everyone else, everything around Elion seemed completely normal, apart from the obvious fact that he felt much stronger than before.
Almost everyone gathered here had been Elion’s senior, apart from the first years, and they had all seen and heard plenty about him recently.
Once they got a proper look at him, many of them unconsciously turned toward Xavier.
They wanted to see what he would do now that his family’s nemesis and his father’s suspected killer had suddenly appeared before him.
To their disappointment, Xavier remained calm.
Apart from his narrowed eyes, there was barely any reaction at all.
Halbrecht was among those who had been troubled by the possibility of Xavier attacking Elion or, at the very least, storming over and bombarding him with questions, so he quietly breathed a sigh of relief when he realised Xavier had no intention of doing anything for now.
’Perhaps he’s waiting for the right opportunity, inside the Legacy World.’
After all, it would be unbecoming of him to attack someone with so many people watching.
Still...
’It is strange. What is Xavier even doing here? I don’t see his younger brother anywhere.’
Not to say he didn’t understand the importance people placed on this opportunity, but the Dawncrest house must have been in turmoil right now.
Leaving at such a time was one sure-fire way to have your greedy, distant relatives use this opportunity to snatch control of the duchy.
After all, even King Alexander himself would not be able to do anything if one of Xavier’s Uncles decided to rally the people in the Dukedom while Xavier was away and turn them against him.
It would have made much more sense if William was here instead.
Meanwhile, Elion had already been surrounded by a number of curious students, though he paid most of them little attention.
Instead, his focus settled on the people he actually knew.
Like Selene, though he did spot the seniors from the DC further back, especially Brunna, who was much closer among the few people throwing questions his way.
The dwarf girl was waving at him enthusiastically, and of course, her massive hammer was right beside her, despite the fact that he could see a storage ring on one of her fingers.
He couldn’t really say he knew these people; he had barely spent that much time in the DC before leaving the academy, but it would be nice to say hello.
Selene, the beastwoman, was grinning broadly, unconcealed joy and relief shining in her eyes.
"I see you’ve somehow become even stronger than your poor teacher, you little bastard!" Her booming voice easily cut through the noise of the surrounding students.
Stepping forward, Selene placed a strong hand on Elion’s broad shoulder.
The upper sides of her arms were covered in soft fur, while the claws extending from her fingers were as sharp as ever, matching the row of pointed teeth revealed by her wolfish grin.
Her body was just as ripped as he remembered, and just as sexy. Now that he was taller than she was, she didn’t look as menacing as he remembered.
Though Elion did his absolute best to keep his eyes from wandering toward the straining, half-exposed mounds on her chest.
His lip twitched.
"Good to see you’re doing well too, Professor Selene." He smiled. "And I suppose I should thank you for taking care of me while I was at the academy."
Selene’s grin widened.
"It hasn’t even been that long," Elion continued, "but I’m still having nightmares about your combat training classes to this very day."
"Hahahahahahaha!"
Selene withdrew her hand and planted both fists against her waist before bursting into uproarious laughter.
Her broad shoulders trembled with every booming laugh, producing a rather enticing jiggle from the generous mounds straining against her clothing.
"It was a pleasure contributing to your growth as a mage, Elion Nova!" she declared loudly and proudly.
It was then that Elion noticed a pair of powerful professors approaching them, and naturally, the surrounding students wasted no time making way for Halbrecht and the beautiful Professor Lolanthe.
Lolanthe was floating leisurely a short distance above the ground, dressed in a revealing gown whose thin straps looked as though they were only moments away from slipping from her pale shoulders.
The neckline offered a generous view of her pale cleavage, while a high slit ran along one side of the dress, exposing her leg almost all the way to her thigh.
Professor Halbrecht was the first to speak.
His voice was impossibly deep and resonant.
"I’m assuming your presence here means you’ve changed your mind and decided to return and reclaim your place."
He paused briefly.
"I’m sorry to say, however, that we’ve already been informed that you rejected the opportunity to return. So even if you’ve changed your mind now, that door was closed by your own hand."
Halbrecht spoke calmly, despite the turmoil raging beneath the surface.
Elion glanced between the two professors standing only a few steps away, while students watched curiously from either side.
Selene immediately frowned, her lips pulling back slightly to reveal her sharp teeth, but Elion raised a hand to stop her.
What Halbrecht was saying was technically true, and Elion could already guess what the man was trying to do.
He probably wanted to send Elion away as quickly as possible and restore some semblance of calm among the students.
But how could Elion forget?
That image of Halbrecht floating above the Coliseum alongside all the others, looking down at him as though he were some sinful creature that needed to be judged.
How could he forget that this very same hypocrite had attempted to kill him simply because of Elion’s words and killing intent that forced him back and humiliated him in front of thousands?
It was self-righteous bastards like Halbrecht that Elion hated most!
