Chapter 581: Monster
Elion momentarily poured a huge chunk of his stats into his speed and agility, creating a violent explosion of air as he broke past the sound barrier, descending toward the dragon like a lightning bolt.
The people within the general area had already begun running and screaming in every direction after realizing that a great battle was about to ensue.
Those who had initially stayed behind to watch were now scrambling for cover as the pressure from the two combatants continued to climb.
By this point, Zenith had long since healed all six succubi to full health, Nadia included.
The succubi were beyond shocked by her capabilities.
Even Ophelia, who had spent more than a century cultivating her own strength, couldn’t help but stare at the woman who had healed injuries that should have taken days, perhaps even weeks, to recover from within an instant.
And it took her only a moment to realize that this incredibly beautiful woman their Champion had brought with him was more than just a beauty.
She had to be incredibly powerful as well.
Ophelia glanced toward the battle raging above them.
"Aren’t you going to help him?"
"Hmmm...?" Zenith looked at her. "And why would I do that?"
"You can’t possibly expect him to defeat a Grand Mage Dragon alone?"
There was genuine concern in Ophelia’s voice.
As much as she believed in Elion, the last time she had seen him, he had been even weaker than she was.
He possessed all the potential in the world to eventually reach the top, but in her eyes, he was still far too young to be fighting someone like Vel’dranor.
Zenith simply gave Ophelia a pleasant smile.
She didn’t answer. Instead, she raised one hand and pointed down toward Elion and his opponent.
"Look."
Ophelia’s eyes followed her finger.
BOOOOOOM!
A violent explosion erupted in the sky from Elion’s movement.
The shockwave spread outward in a massive ring, tearing through the surrounding clouds high above.
Elion collided with Vel’dranor just as the succubi were raising their arms to shield their faces.
Then the dust and scattering debrii slowly cleared.
Ophelia’s eyes widened.
"What...?"
Vel’dranor slowly lowered his gaze toward his left shoulder, and his expression froze.
There was nothing there.
His left arm was gone, completely severed at the shoulder.
Blood poured from the empty socket, spraying through the air as his severed hand continued tumbling toward the ground far below.
Vel’dranor simply stared for several long seconds. He hadn’t been able to perceive Elion’s movement at all, much less even see the attack!
He had barely managed to move on instinct.
And if he hadn’t...
His eyes slowly moved toward Elion.
The young man hovered several metres away, with a calm but blazing expression, his clean blade resting casually in his hand, without a single drop of blood on it.
Vel’dranor’s pupils contracted.
’That attack...’ His instincts had felt the sword approaching his neck, not his shoulder.
If his instincts hadn’t forced his body to move at the last possible moment, his head would have been rolling on the ground by now, instead of his arm.
The realization sent a chill through him.
’I would have died.’
Vel’dranor’s breathing became heavier.
At this point, you would have expected him to feel fear, but his expression slowly twisted with excitement.
"Hahahaha..." His remaining hand clenched into a fist. "You..."
His golden eyes burned with an almost manic intensity.
"You actually almost killed me!? Hahahahahahaha!"
Elion said nothing.
He simply raised Kurogoroshi again.
Meanwhile, down the street, a procession of around fifteen armed guards was running toward the scene, with a stoic figure following not too far behind.
Given the man’s oppressive presence and the shocked looks from those fleeing the area who happened to catch sight of him, he was clearly an important, recognizable figure.
He had to be the leader of the group, yet it was somewhat strange that he was following behind instead of taking the lead.
The guards moved with disciplined urgency, their weapons already drawn as they navigated the chaos unfolding throughout the street.
"Make way!"
"Get everyone away from the area!"
"Don’t stop! Keep moving!"
Their shouts echoed through the streets as they pushed forward.
The stoic man said nothing. His sharp gaze remained fixed on the pair who had just clashed above.
One of the guards glanced back at him.
"Sir, should we really be approaching any closer?"
Jammud didn’t answer immediately.
His eyes narrowed as Vel’dranor’s laughter echoed through the sky.
The surrounding buildings were still trembling from the first collision.
Jammud was the ruler of this region, and he had been notified of Vel’dranor’s presence not long ago, as well as who he had come hunting for.
He had come as quickly as he could, intending to find out what conflict the Greater Dragon had with the famous Crimson House owned by the succubi.
After all, Jammud himself had been a frequent visitor there, constantly trying to gain the succubi’s favour.
He had expected to arrive at the scene and find Vel’dranor in the middle of a confrontation with them.
What he was seeing, however, was nothing like what he had imagined. The Greater Dragon was not fighting the succubi.
At least, not right now.
Instead, Vel’dranor was simply hovering in the sky with a stunned expression on his face, blood still dripping from the freshly severed wound where his arm was supposed to be.
Jammud’s gaze shifted toward the other figure standing opposite him.
A young human male.
The boy held an eerily black blade in one hand, its dark-red edge seeming to shimmer ominously beneath the sunlight.
Jammud’s eyes narrowed further as he examined the young man.
"Wait..."
His perception swept over Elion’s body.
The boy’s cultivation was...
Jammud’s brow twitched.
"He’s only a High Mage?" The words escaped him before he could stop himself.
The guards behind him fell silent.
They had sensed it as well.
The young man fighting a Greater Dragon was only at the High Mage realm.
Quite impressive for someone of his age, but he had no business facing a greater dragon who was at the grand mage level!
Jammud stared upward in disbelief.
This wasn’t merely a difference of a single minor stage.
There was an entire two realms between them, and yet, somehow, the human had severed Vel’dranor’s arm.
More importantly, judging from the stunned expression still lingering on the Greater Dragon’s face even as he laughed, he hadn’t expected this turn of events either.
Jammud’s eyes narrowed.
’What kind of monster is this?’
