Freya and Her Beast Husbands

Xavier had lost control before? Did he not have access to a guide? Or was it that there were no guides to help stabilize his power? Surely, the Guide Center would’ve provided one...

She hadn’t read much into it, but an educated guess had her believing the Guide Center offered guiding services to those that hadn’t found their partners yet. Why else would they try to recruit her to join them?

Still, his words made it all too grounding as to how important her job was at stabilizing his power with her guide ability. Because she wasn’t sure how strong of a barrier those gloves were.

They looked like ordinary fabric gloves to her and it would be a serious issue if they did little to stop his power.

"So... um what happened?" Freya finally asked, a little curious for details. Perhaps it could give her a clue on what to look out for if Xavier ever went crazy. "And how do the gloves work? They seem like normal gloves to me."

"When my power was first developing, I was very unstable because of it and accidentally touched someone when my power was activated. Thankfully, he only lost a limb and not anything else." Xavier mused.

Freya swallowed her nerves, trying to keep her face calm. This guy really said such things so calmly... Then again she watched him kill several beastmen at once, so this was probably nothing to him.

But to her this was villain talk. She really was going to have an interesting time in this world with the conflicting sense of morals here. Making her once again question how isekai protagonists made it look so easy.

Some of them didn’t even blink at this kind of stuff. Or would even do it themselves...

Xavier then added, "As for the gloves, they are mostly normal gloves. However, underneath the layer of cotton are two layers of my shedded skin. Apparently it’s the only thing resistant to my void ability."

Well that made her feel slightly better. Still, she was maybe going to need to get her hands on some of that shedded skin so she had some kind of protection too. Though that thought did sound weird to her.

But she decided to put it aside like everything else. Because looking too much into it was going to just overwhelm her mind.

"I see..." Freya pursed her lips. "So when did you awaken your powers?"

"Hmm... Around sixteen. The normal age as everyone else." Xavier shrugged. "Did you not awaken your abilities then too?"

"Oh... um y-yeah..." Freya chuckled sheepishly, hating that she had to act like she lived in this world her whole life. Stupid god couldn’t even give her a backstory or anything. "I was just curious about it, that’s all."

Xavier frowned at her strange reaction, but decided to not to ask any questions thankfully. Food soon arrived anyway, so they left the conversation in place for enjoying a late lunch.

Once they were done eating lunch and Xavier had settled the bill, the two headed out, deciding to go straight home for the day. However as they were walking back to the car, Xavier suddenly felt something vibrate in his inner coat pocket.

"Give me a second. I need to grab my phone." Xavier asked Freya and she immediately let go of his left arm.

The wave of calmness that had been flowing through him came to a sudden stop as she pulled away and he almost wanted to snatch her hand to put it back on his arm. It was crazy how addicting a guide’s ability was.

Especially one as powerful as an S-class guide. No wonder hunter type beastmen went crazy over them. He could enjoy this feeling all day and night. Which was scary considering they were only touching.

He didn’t want to imagine what it felt like with an actual bond in place...

Shaking the thoughts away, Xavier pulled his vibrating phone out of his inner coat pocket, wanting to see who was calling him. Few people had his personal number and it was only for emergencies.

Which was the only reason he was even looking at it right now instead of ignoring the call all together.

The moment he saw the caller ID, Xavier answered, "What’s up?"

"Check Star Network..." A soft voice responded through the phone. "You’re trending."

Xavier scowled at the words, his grip tightening on the phone. Of all the nonsense he needed to deal with, this was one thing he wished he wouldn’t have to deal with. He could already see the headache coming.

Star Network was a popular platform for gossip and whenever he landed up on there, it was never for anything good. After all, many beastmen hated the Snake Clan.

And were always looking for any excuse to hate on them even more.

"Is something the matter?" Freya glanced at him curiously.

"It’s nothing..." Xavier responded to Freya before he turned his attention back to the phone and asked Wilson, "Have you done damage control?"

"Yes..." Wilson answered. "But everyone knows you’re married now."

Xavier rubbed his forehead. He knew everyone was eventually going to find out, but he didn’t expect the whole city to basically know in less than a day. If he caught the fucker who started this...

"You should warn Freya..." Wilson added. "I got the photos down quick... But rumors are going around now..."

No wonder Wilson was calling him. His younger brother would normally just take care of it all and tell him later. He hated calling over the phone, only doing it for serious matters.

Guess he was worried about Freya.

They could handle rumors and the hate, but they couldn’t be sure about Freya. He was going to have to get her back to the mansion quickly before someone spotted them. And explain what was going on.

"I’ll handle it. Thanks." Xavier stated before hanging up. He then turned to look at a confused Freya and said, "We need to hurry back home before this place gets swarmed."

No one had come after them yet, so it meant this happened within the last few hours. Maybe within the last two. Of course, Xavier didn’t want to test his luck any further. Better to just get away from it all.

It was less of a headache that way.
