The Milf's Dragon

Chapter 238. The New Normal

Life in Drak’thar settled into a rhythm that would have seemed impossible just weeks earlier.

The Palace was no longer a place of crisis management and cosmic negotiation. It was home. Owen moved through the corridors with Yuki, checking on Lord in the morning, meeting with Gorvax about the child’s education in the afternoon, and sitting in the courtyard in the evening watching the hatchlings play.

It was ordinary. Domestic. Profoundly strange given what Lord was.

But it was also necessary.

Three weeks after the accord was finalized, Odessa approached Owen with a proposal.

"The hatchery is empty," she said simply. "We built it years ago when we first arrived on Drak’thar, but we never fully activated it. With the five hatchlings preparing to enter the Tower of Royals, we have the capacity to develop new eggs."

Owen considered this.

"You want to breed more dragons," he said.

"I want to establish Drak’thar as a true dragon kingdom," Odessa said. "Right now, we have one adult — you. We have five juvenile dragons entering the Tower. We have a child who will eventually become something beyond classification. But we do not have a functional population. If we want Drak’thar to be more than a sanctuary, we need to build its foundation."

Owen looked at Gorvax, who was nearby.

The ancient Sower nodded slightly.

"She is correct," Gorvax said. "The hatchery should be operational. Drak’thar should develop its own dragon lineage separate from the wild populations. This serves multiple purposes. It establishes legitimate claim to dragon kingdom status. It provides structure and purpose to the society we are building. And it ensures that when the five-year accord ends, we have the strength to defend what we have created."

"How many eggs," Owen asked.

"We can gestate up to fifteen simultaneously," Odessa said. "I suggest we start with five. Five new hatchlings to develop alongside Lord’s growth. By the time he reaches true maturity, Drak’thar will have fifteen young dragons of various developmental stages. A real population. A real kingdom."

Owen thought about what it meant to establish a dragon kingdom. What it meant to birth new dragons deliberately rather than have them emerge from wild populations. What responsibility that carried.

"Alright," he said. "Activate the hatchery. Begin with five eggs."

---

The hatchery was located in the deepest level of Drak’thar’s central spire.

It was a vast chamber lined with crystalline pools. Each pool maintained a specific temperature, a specific magical frequency, a specific environmental condition. The pools were designed to gestate dragon eggs in accelerated development — not as accelerated as Lord’s birth, but significantly faster than natural progression.

Odessa selected the first five eggs carefully.

They came from carefully maintained genetic stores — dragon eggs that had been preserved in stasis before Owen left for the cosmos. The eggs were color-coded to indicate their expected affinities.

A deep purple egg that would develop lightning affinity.

A silver egg that would develop water affinity.

A deep green egg that would develop nature affinity similar to the emerald hatchling.

A black egg with crimson veins that would develop destruction affinity.

A blue egg with white striations that would develop wind affinity.

Each egg was placed into its corresponding pool with ceremony. Odessa, Alfred, and several of the human hunters from Nexus Prime performed the ritual activation. Magical energy flowed through the chamber, awakening the gestation protocols.

Within hours, the eggs began to glow faintly.

"Three weeks," Odessa said, monitoring the progression. "That is our estimate for the first hatchlings to emerge. By the time the five original hatchlings exit the Tower of Royals, the new generation will be ready for basic training."

---

The five original hatchlings prepared to enter the Tower of Royals with far less fanfare than Lord had experienced.

They understood what was coming. They had been designed by the Tower itself to eventually undergo their own evolution. The time had simply come.

The emerald green hatchling was the first to enter. She moved with excitement, ready to develop her nature affinity further, to learn what it meant to be fully draconic rather than simply a manifestation of dragon essence.

The polished black hatchling followed, quiet and patient, its shadow affinity already developed to a degree that allowed it to slip between darkness with ease. It would refine that ability. Would learn to exist in shadow in ways that transcended simple physics.

The brilliant gold hatchling practically vibrated with energy as it entered, its lightning affinity sparking in controlled bursts. It would emerge from the Tower as something genuinely formidable — a juvenile dragon capable of directing cosmic energy rather than simply releasing it chaotically.

The pale silver-blue hatchling moved with calm deliberation, understanding exactly what awaited. Its ice affinity would be transformed into something far more sophisticated. The ability to manipulate temperature at fundamental levels. To create stasis fields. To understand the thermodynamic nature of existence itself.

And finally, the black hatchling with gold veins entered last.

It paused at the threshold and looked back at Lord.

The two exchanged something unspoken. Understanding. Recognition. A communication that had no words but carried absolute certainty.

Then the black hatchling entered the Tower, and the doors sealed behind it.

Lord watched them go without apparent emotion, but Owen could feel the shift in his son’s cosmic signature. A sense of... loss, perhaps. Or completion. The teaching phase was ending. The black hatchling had guided him as far as it could. Now both would develop separately.

"They will return different," Gorvax said to Owen as they watched the Tower process the five dragons.

"Different how," Owen asked.

"Juvenile dragons are not simply larger hatchlings," Gorvax said. "They are fundamentally different beings. More aware. More powerful. More capable of complex thought and decision-making. The five that entered will emerge as something far more sophisticated."

"How long," Owen asked.

"Unknown," Gorvax said. "The Tower adapts its timeline based on the being being transformed. It could be weeks. It could be months. But they will emerge when they are ready."

---

Lord’s education began in earnest after the five hatchlings entered the Tower.

Gorvax established a formal curriculum in one of the Palace’s research chambers. Hours spent reviewing crystalline tablets that contained knowledge of the ancient cosmic order. Hours learning to perceive the tier system itself as a structure that could be understood and eventually modified.

But it was not all abstract knowledge.

Owen took Lord to the training chambers and taught him the practical applications of his power. How to heal with precision. How to manipulate his signature without losing control. How to exist as a bridge between states without fragmenting into contradictory aspects.

Yuki provided grounding. She insisted that Lord spend time learning human things. How to cook. How to tend gardens. How to understand why beings with limited lifespans found meaning in small things. The lessons seemed simple, but Owen understood that Yuki was teaching their son something vital: compassion for those who were not gods.

"A being with infinite power and infinite perspective can easily dismiss the significance of limited beings," Yuki explained to Owen one afternoon. "I am teaching him to understand that limitation does not equal insignificance. That a human life, though brief, contains as much meaning as an eternal being chooses to perceive in it."

Leah worked with Lord on physical discipline. Even though he could heal any injury and solve most physical problems through his bridge tier nature, Leah insisted on teaching him martial structure. How to move with intention. How to understand that physical form carried its own wisdom.

Yalira taught him scouting. How to move through the world without making unnecessary impact. How to observe without being observed. How to understand that power without stealth was simply noise.

And Solhart taught him human politics and compromise. How the hunter guilds operated. How negotiation worked when beings did not have perfect information. How to function in a world where not everyone could be convinced through pure logic.

---

By the second week, a new rhythm had established itself.

Mornings: Gorvax’s cosmic history lessons and ancient knowledge.

Midday: Owen’s practical power training.

Afternoon: Yuki’s grounding lessons.

Early evening: Physical discipline with Leah.

Late evening: Observation and stealth training with Yalira.

Night: Politics and human society with Solhart.

Lord absorbed all of it with the eager certainty of a being that understood, on some fundamental level, that this education was preparation for reshaping reality itself.

He did not rebel against the structure. He did not resent the constant teaching. Instead, he engaged with everything as though it was all essential knowledge that he genuinely needed.

Owen found himself watching his son constantly, trying to understand what was happening in the mind of a being who was simultaneously a child and something far older and more aware.

"He is preparing himself," Gorvax said one evening, noticing Owen’s observation. "He understands that when the five-year accord expires, the real work begins. The teaching we are providing now is foundation. When he is ready to reshape the cosmic order, he will need to understand both the structure he is reshaping and the beings affected by that reshaping."

"Will five years be enough," Owen asked.

"No," Gorvax said. "But five years is what we have been granted. And a being like Lord learns faster than any creature the cosmos has encountered. We will teach him as much as we can. When the five years expire, the true education will begin."

---

In the hatchery, the five new eggs continued their gestation.

Odessa monitored them constantly, adjusting temperatures and magical frequencies as needed. The purple egg was developing strongest — the lightning affinity causing visible electrical discharges within the pool. The black egg with crimson veins was developing next, dark energy coalescing within its shell.

By week two, the eggs had begun to show faint coloration changes. By week three, they were beginning to move.

The first crack appeared on day twenty-one.

The silver egg — water affinity — was the first to hatch.

The hatchling that emerged was small and wet, barely the size of Owen’s hand. It had translucent silver scales and eyes that were still cloudy with newborn development. It made a sound that was not quite speech, not quite animal.

Water dripped from its body, but not from moisture on its scales. From the hatchling itself. It was producing water — the affinity expressing itself before the hatchling had even fully emerged from the egg.

By day twenty-three, all five eggs had hatched.

The purple lightning hatchling was already sparking dangerously, requiring careful containment.

The black-crimson destruction affinity hatchling was demonstrating an almost violent temperament, attacking anything that moved near it.

The green nature affinity hatchling was causing plants to grow in chaotic patterns around its pool.

The blue-white wind affinity hatchling was creating localized air currents that disrupted everything nearby.

And the silver water affinity hatchling was learning to move through its pool with graceful precision.

"A new generation," Odessa said, watching the five hatchlings explore their environment. "The foundation of a real dragon kingdom."

She sent a message to Owen: "The hatchery is producing. When the original five return from the Tower as juvenile dragons, we will have five new hatchlings to guide. Drak’thar will have the beginnings of a true population."

Owen received the message and understood what it meant.

The sanctuary was becoming a kingdom. The refuge was becoming a civilization. His son would not be raising a god alone. He would be raising a god surrounded by a population of dragons, humans, and beings from across the cosmos. All drawn to Drak’thar to witness and participate in what was being created.
