Chapter 1615 - 1617: This Is a Deposit
"Why do you care if we’re hired or not? Just tell me if what you said earlier is true." The young man grumbled unhappily.
He was originally just a beggar, worried about not having anything to eat these past few days. Then someone came to give them money and asked for their help.
Initially, they were hesitant to cause trouble at Lord Prefect’s house because he’s such a high-ranking official. One wrong move, and they could end up in jail.
But who would’ve thought that the visitor said Lord Prefect ordered the desecration of many families’ ancestral graves? The situation has blown up, and even the court knows about it now. Lord Prefect is barely keeping himself safe. Upon hearing this, his dormant spirit was stirred. Although he was a beggar, he knew it was wrong to dig up ancestral graves. Moreover, doing this would earn him some silver, so he came.
However, hearing these two kids speak now seems like there’s more to the story. Kids wouldn’t lie, so it seems the person who invited them might be the problem.
But he didn’t care who was right or wrong, as long as he got his silver.
"It’s true, it’s true." Yangyang impatiently untied the pouch at his waist, looked inside; there were just a few silver coins, and he tossed it down, "Catch it!"
The young man opened it and shouted, "This isn’t enough!"
"What’s the rush? That’s the advance payment. I’ll give you the rest later once it’s done." Yangyang recalled how his mother would discuss deals with people, thought for a moment, and said.
"Alright then." The young man nodded, waved his hand to lead his brothers away. After they left, Lele looked and was shocked, "Wow, this guy actually brought over dozens of people? Once they leave, only a few are left."
Lele looked at the remaining people and knocked on the gong, "Why aren’t you leaving yet?"
"We don’t believe what a kid says!" One burly man spoke up, "My grandfather’s grave was dug up, even the tomb cap was gone."
"Then go to the authorities! Go to the county you’re from!" Lele said impatiently, "Didn’t you hear what I said earlier? It’s not my dad who had it dug up; it was the grave robbers who learned about it and dug on their own, then sold the goods. Get it?"
"I, I am from the prefecture. I want to report to the Prefect!"
"Go to the governmental office in three days; Lord Prefect will be there to receive you." Lele responded, "Is everything settled now? If you’re done, leave; this isn’t the governmental office, it’s my home. If you want to block, go block the governmental office next time."
"Exactly, exactly, you’re all blocking here, making it impossible for me to go out and play; if you don’t leave, I’m going to pour poop on you."
Some of them, already drenched in sour water, backed off upon hearing this threat.
The burly man in the middle thought for a moment and said, "Fine, we’ll go to the governmental office in three days. We have to get someone to fight for our rights in this matter."
"Yeah, we can’t let people dig our family graves at will."
A group of people chattered as they walked away.
Yangyang looked at their departing figures, breathed a sigh of relief, and swiftly climbed down the ladder. But when he turned, he saw Lele still standing there motionless.
"Brother? Why aren’t you coming down? Everyone’s gone."
Lele heard him, puckered his lips, opened his mouth, blinked several times, and finally reddened his face to say, "I, I can’t get down."
"Huh?" Yangyang was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter, "Haha... Brother, you’re amazing."
