So she got to thinking how she could establish a connection with the Ye Family, how she could legitly enter the Ye Family’s household, to bask in some of that sky-high wealth. Alright, Ms. Liu Junior’s family was poor, and Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law was also frightened by poverty, always looking to ingratiate herself with anyone who seemed slightly attainable.
But after pondering for two days, she couldn’t come up with any schemes, and she became utterly obsessed like a person possessed by a demon.
She even neglected the nursing child at home, infuriating Ms. Liu Junior’s mother to the point of cursing.
But she didn’t care about that. Let her curse if that’s what she wanted.
One morning, Ms. Liu Junior’s mother said she was going back to her parental home and asked Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law to look after the child for a while.
Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law couldn’t help but ask, "What are you going back home for?" Ms. Liu Junior’s mother just curled her lip and said a nephew back home was going to be betrothed.
At that moment, Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law was flabbergasted, wondering how old her mother-in-law’s grandnephew could be that year; wasn’t he just three years old? How was he already getting betrothed? Only after more probing did she learn it was a child betrothal.
Initially, Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law didn’t think much of it, until the evening when her daughter, wailing from hunger, made her suddenly realize and understand.
Excited, she ran to warm up the cooled rice soup in some hot water. Without even adding sugar, she fed it to the child as it was.
Her little girl was even two months older than Lele and Yangyang, yet she was only feeding her that bit of rice soup.
Seeing the child had had nearly enough, she brought her back to the kang bed, gently patting and lulling her to sleep.
But now that the child was asleep, she couldn’t sleep at all. She was too excited to sleep after finally figuring out how to ingratiate herself with the Ye Family.
She glanced at her husband next to her, sleeping like a pig and snoring away. After thinking it over, she started poking her own man. One poke didn’t stir him, so she poked again, and after several pokes finally roused the deeply sleeping man.
"It’s the middle of the night, why aren’t you sleeping? Why do you keep poking me?" Ms. Liu Junior’s brother grumbled, rubbing his eyes, deeply dissatisfied.
"You’re really a dead weight, only good for sleeping." Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law couldn’t help but say, seeing his clueless face, and thought to herself how she had managed to marry such a useless man.
"Why aren’t you sleeping in the middle of the night?" Ms. Liu Junior’s brother yawned, noticing his wife was still clothed and not planning to sleep, his thoughts drifted off-track, and he wrapped his arms around her with a lewd smile, "I’d forgotten, besides sleeping, we can also make love in the dark of night. Are you itching for it, unable to sleep, and wanting me to scratch that itch for you?"
"Bah, you think that little hoe of yours is any good? Useless." Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law glared at him, unimpressed, and seeing that he was about to try and go back to sleep, she quickly tugged at him, "Get up, I have something serious to discuss with you!"
Ms. Liu Junior’s brother mumbled discontentedly, "Oh, what could be so serious in the middle of the night? In my book, besides sleeping and making love on the kang at this hour, nothing else is serious."
Listening to his earnestly lewd talk, Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law couldn’t help but laugh.
"You dead weight, I really do have something serious to talk about, sit up now."
Seeing that she seemed to actually have something to say, Ms. Liu Junior’s brother opened his feigning eyes.
"Spill it, what’s it about? If it’s not serious, just wait and see how I’ll deal with you afterward."
Ms. Liu Junior’s sister-in-law thought over her words, then said, "You’re aware of the Yangshu Village’s Ye Family, the one with the second place scholar?"
"Nonsense, aren’t they from the same village as my younger sister? Heard he’s even my sister’s husband’s nephew by marriage, how could I not know?" She really doesn’t have a brain, asking such a question.
