Chapter 900 - 901 Returning_1
By the time they reached the village entrance, they could faintly hear the sound of firecrackers and some folk tunes.
Especially when they arrived at the family’s front door, what came into view were three quaint storied buildings staggered in layout. The original grey bricks had been painted with apricot wall surfaces and sapphire-blue edges, dazzling to see. Even the yard had been expanded to encompass the entire buildings.
Of course, that wasn’t the main point; the main point was, why were there so many people at home? They all seemed to be laughing and playing as if there was something joyous happening?
"Brother An is back!" Finally, someone spotted him standing dazed outside the door.
Then one of the girls hurried towards the back building.
Chen Sheng was busy speaking with the troupe he had invited to play the tunes when he heard the commotion and looked over—wasn’t that Brother An?
He hurried forward, "Brother An, you’ve returned! You say, having gone for more than half a year, you’ve come back to find your son already born."
"What? My son?" Ye Zi’an looked at Chen Sheng in disbelief. Wasn’t he calculating the time? Did his wife give birth prematurely? Impossible! Instantly, his face turned a shade paler.
"Yes, you didn’t know, did you? Suddenly, you’ve got two sons." Chen Sheng didn’t notice his complexion and continued smiling, "I’m envious of you, having two sons at once. I saw them when they were carried in, all chubby and white, looking so healthy."
Ye Zi’an couldn’t listen to his chatter any longer; he pushed past him and rushed towards the back building, only to run face-to-face into Yang Chuxia, who had been alerted of the news.
"Brother An?" Yang Chuxia exclaimed with surprise as she looked at the person before her, who had thinned down somewhat but seemed even more spirited.
His complexion was still fair, almost transparent, and his features as delicate as ever, a sight she could never tire of.
"Xiaxia!" Seeing Xiaxia looking somewhat plumper than before he left, a huge weight lifted from his heart.
So, without care for the maidservants around, nor minding that Ms.Wang and the others were present, he embraced Yang Chuxia tightly. Their passionate embrace made Ms.Wang and the others turn away in embarrassment.
Ms.Wang had to wave her hand and take the few maidservants to the front of the house.
"My wife, I’ve missed you so much." Ye Zi’an’s face nestled against Yang Chuxia’s neck, he murmured softly.
Yang Chuxia, hearing these words, began to act a little coy and pushed Ye Zi’an slightly away, twisting his ear with one hand, "You say you’ve missed me, so why did you return so late? Madame here has already given birth to your son, the child has reached a month old, and only now do you come back, are you asking for a beating?"
"My wife, I was wrong, I was truly wrong!" he quickly admitted his fault, as Ye Zi’an was always so sensible. However, hearing that the child had already reached a month old, he couldn’t help but feel some resentment towards Baili Yan, towards the Emperor as well; it was all because of these people. Otherwise, he would have returned just in time for the birth. "But my wife, how is your health? I heard that giving birth prematurely is very harmful to the body."
He calculated the time—if the child was just nine months along now, how could his wife have given birth already? Had something happened that he was unaware of?
"Who said I gave birth prematurely?" Yang Chuxia looked at him annoyed and cast him a sidelong glance, "Twins are always born early, around seven to nearly eight months, that’s considered normal."
Seeing that she wasn’t really angry, Ye Zi’an seized the opportunity to pull her hand down and embrace her again, "My wife, you’ve worked hard."
"Do you really think I’ve suffered?" Yang Chuxia pondered and then asked.
"Yes, my wife has suffered greatly. I’ve heard that pregnant women swell in their legs and feet in the later stages, have trouble walking, struggle with clothes, can’t bend over, and need others to put their shoes on. The pain of childbirth is a thousand times greater than ordinary pain, and yet, I haven’t been by my wife’s side, my wife, I am sorry."
