Chapter 199: Overgod’s Pressure
The guards and judges did not take his words lightly, and the moment Cain’s voice cut through the air with that sharp command, their expressions twisted from admiration into anger, their loyalty to Pam rising like a tide that refused to be held back.
Soon enough, one of them stepped forward with a face filled with disbelief and outrage, his voice trembling not from fear but from the insult he believed had just been delivered.
"Do you even know who you are talking to?" the guard shouted, his fangs slightly revealed as his composure cracked under the weight of his pride.
"That is Her Highness, Princess Pam, the pride of this kingdom, the one whose voice has charmed nobles and elders alike, and yet you dare to silence her like she is nothing more than a servant?"
Another stepped forward, his armor clinking as his movements grew tense, his eyes locked on Cain as if trying to burn him alive with nothing but fury.
"You think just because you are favored by our beloved princess that you can act however you want here in presence? You think you can humiliate the princess in front of us and walk away?"
Their voices overlapped, one after another, a storm of anger rising as they tried to reassert order, as if their words alone could push Cain back into a place where he would bow his head and apologize.
Yet none of them truly understood that the vampire standing before them had long stepped beyond the need for such things, that titles and ranks had no meaning to someone who had once held entire universes in his palm.
Pam herself could no longer stay quiet, her chest rising and falling as her emotions broke free, her voice filled with a mixture of anger and desperation as she stepped closer to Cain.
Her eyes locked onto his as if trying to drag him back from whatever state he had fallen into.
"Wake up!" she shouted, her voice trembling in a way she tried to hide, yet failed to. "Cain, listen to me! You are not thinking clearly right now! That song, that feeling, it is not real! It is the blood pact, it is twisting your thoughts, making you believe things that are not true, making you feel things that do not belong to you!"
She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms as she continued, refusing to stop even as the air itself seemed to grow heavier with every passing second.
"You said it yourself!" she continued, her voice cracking slightly. "You told me you could not feel anything for me because of that contract! That means it is controlling you, it is deciding for you, it is making you act this way, and now you are chasing something that is not even real, something that only exists because of that curse!"
Cain did not even look at her.
That alone made her heart drop in a way she could not describe, because the man she had known, the one who would at least respond, who would at least acknowledge her presence, was now completely focused on something else, something far beyond her reach.
And then, Cain spoke again.
"Shut up."
This time, his voice was not loud, yet it carried a weight that felt like the sky itself pressing down on everything around him, and before anyone could react, before anyone could even process what was happening, something invisible descended upon them.
It was not something they could see.
It was not something they could touch.
But it was something they could feel.
Every single guard, every single judge, every single person in that room suddenly felt their bodies grow unbearably heavy, as if the ground itself had reached up and grabbed them, dragging them down with a force they could not resist, and in the next instant, their knees did not bend.
They did not kneel.
They were slammed.
Their bodies crashed into the ground with a sickening force, cracks spreading across the stone beneath them as if the floor itself could not withstand the pressure that had been placed upon them, their bones trembling, their lungs struggling to draw even the smallest breath.
"W what is this..." one of them gasped, his face pressed against the cold floor as his eyes widened in pure terror, the arrogance from before completely gone, replaced by something far more primal.
Fear.
Cain stood there, unmoving, his eyes still fixed on Faith, as if nothing else in the world mattered, as if the people around him were nothing more than dust in the wind, and the pressure that surrounded him continued to grow, pressing down harder, forcing even those who tried to resist to collapse completely.
Pam staggered slightly, her body trembling as she tried to remain standing, her eyes locked onto Cain with a mixture of shock and disbelief, her mind struggling to understand what she was witnessing.
"This... this is not..." she whispered, her voice barely audible.
She had seen powerful beings.
She had stood before elders and rulers.
She had even felt the presence of those who were considered monsters among vampires.
But this...
This was something else entirely.
And Cain did not even seem to be trying.
How is he this strong?
...
Outside, not far beyond the walls of that room, in a massive arena that resembled a grand colosseum covered by a roof that blocked the moonlight, the Moonshade Family had gathered, their figures spread across the vast space as they tried to make sense of what was happening.
Rivik stood with his arms crossed, his sharp eyes scanning the surroundings, his instincts screaming that something was wrong, while beside him, Ghurd, one of the nine ancestors, narrowed his gaze, his expression serious as he observed the figures seated around them.
The nine ancestors themselves remained silent, their presence alone enough to make the air feel heavy, while Zenaya stood slightly apart, her Blood Owl perched on her shoulder, its glowing eyes moving from one figure to another as if trying to see through them.
"What is this place..." one of the younger members whispered, his voice filled with unease.
"Why are we here..." another added, his hands clenching as he tried to remain calm.
Around them, the seats were filled with vampires.
Not ordinary ones.
Each of them radiated an aura that could crush lesser beings without effort, their presence overwhelming, their eyes watching the Moonshade Family like predators observing prey, and the realization slowly sank in.
These were Emperor level beings.
And there were many of them.
Rivik’s jaw tightened, his voice low as he spoke. "Stay alert. Something is not right."
Before anyone could respond, one of the seated individuals leaned forward slightly, a faint smile on his lips as he spoke in a calm, almost casual tone, as if what he was about to say was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Since all of you were tired from your travels yesterday, and since the Lord has not arrived yet, please..."
He paused for a moment, his smile widening.
"...feast."
The moment those words left his mouth, the atmosphere changed.
From the shadows, from the corridors that lined the arena, figures began to emerge.
Humans.
Dozens of them.
They were weak.
They were exhausted.
Their bodies were covered in dirt and wounds, their eyes filled with fear and hopelessness as they were pushed forward, forced into the center of the arena like livestock being presented to predators.
The younger members of the Moonshade Family felt their throats dry up, their instincts reacting before their minds could catch up, their hunger rising as the scent of blood filled the air, rich and intoxicating, calling to them in a way that was impossible to ignore.
Even the older ones felt it.
The urge.
The craving.
It was part of their nature.
One of them stepped forward, his fangs extending slightly as he looked at the humans, his body moving on instinct, his hand lifting as if to grab one of them, to sink his teeth into their flesh and drink until nothing remained.
But before he could move further, before he could even take another step, something descended upon them.
A presence.
Heavy.
Unyielding.
Terrifying.
It pressed down on them from above, from all directions, crushing their instincts, forcing their bodies to stop, their muscles locking as if they had been frozen in place, their eyes widening as they realized they could not move.
"What..." someone whispered, his voice shaking.
It was not just them.
The ones seated around them, the Emperor level vampires who had been watching with amusement, suddenly felt it as well.
Their expressions changed.
Their relaxed postures broke.
One of them tried to stand, his aura flaring as he attempted to resist whatever was pressing down on him, yet his body trembled, his knees bending against his will as he struggled to remain upright.
"This... this pressure..." he muttered, his voice no longer calm.
Another clenched his fists, his eyes narrowing as he looked around, trying to find the source, yet finding nothing.
"This is impossible..."
The entire arena fell into a tense silence.
The humans in the center stopped moving, their fear momentarily forgotten as they sensed something far more terrifying than the vampires around them.
The Moonshade Family stood frozen, their hunger completely suppressed, their instincts overridden by the overwhelming force that had taken hold of them.
And the worst part...
Even the ones seated above them, the supposed rulers of this place, the ones who had invited them here with confidence and control...
Were also being suppressed.
