Chapter 326 - 322: Leng Yuan’s Paternal Aunt Has Arrived
There were sunflower seeds and wedding candy on every table.
Once you finished what was on your own table, you weren’t supposed to take from other tables. Otherwise, there would never be enough to go around!
These were just symbolic items for good luck, and Leng Yuan was already being quite generous. He had laid out entire plates of sunflower seeds and peanuts. At other weddings, you’d just get a handful and that was it.
Besides, no one had arrived to sit at the empty table next to them yet.
It would be too awkward if the guests came and found the sunflower seeds already gone.
Lu Yuanbin wasn’t a stingy person. Seeing the children wanted candy, he tossed out a big handful.
When his Brother Leng treated people, it had to be the best.
If it weren’t for the current rules against extravagance and waste, he would have ordered food directly from the state-run restaurant to save them the trouble of cooking.
After tossing the candy, Lu Yuanbin made one condition: when the bride came out later, everyone had to think of a compliment for her.
The children, having received their milk candies, huddled together and began to think long and hard.
It was a rare moment of peace.
His gesture made the adults feel a little bashful, and they started chatting with him with smiles on their faces.
This played right into Lu Yuanbin’s strong suit.
He knew a little bit about everything, from heaven to earth. And after so many years of running black market deals, he’d met countless people and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone.
When Chen JianShe came back out from Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang’s room with more sunflower seeds and peanuts, he saw that Lu Yuanbin was already talking with Xu Chongshan and getting along swimmingly with the others.
Chen JianShe: ...
’This guy,’ he thought. ’He never misses a chance to schmooze with people, no matter where he is.’
Even though he was the one from this village, he wasn’t as good at talking with everyone as Lu Yuanbin was.
He was suddenly so irritated.
He walked over, set down the sunflower seeds, and unwrapped a piece of candy, shoving it into Lu Yuanbin’s hand.
"You must be thirsty from all that talking! Have a piece of candy."
Lu Yuanbin: ...
’I really want to fight Chen JianShe,’ he thought.
Chen JianShe felt the same way.
The two glared at each other.
Nearby, Xu Chongshan leaned closer to Xu Chongfeng. "Those two are really close."
Xu Chongfeng nodded.
Chen JianShe and Lu Yuanbin: ...
’Is there something wrong with their eyes? How could we possibly be close? We want to beat each other to a pulp!’
They shot each other one last glare, then huffed coldly and turned away.
This only made Xu Chongshan more certain of his opinion.
’Look at that,’ he thought. ’If they weren’t such good friends, could they really be that in sync?’
「On the path outside Leng Yuan’s house.」
A couple was pushing two bicycles, followed by a young woman.
The man was dressed impressively, a briefcase tucked under his arm, and had the air of an official. The woman, around forty, had a relaxed expression and a capable aura about her. One look and you could tell they weren’t from the countryside.
Trailing behind them was a young lady of about twenty, her hair in two braids. She had a delicate and pretty face and had been sizing up her surroundings ever since they entered the village.
As she walked, she looked at the surrounding houses with a hint of disdain on her face.
’This village is so poor!’ she thought. ’There isn’t a single brick-and-tile house in the whole place. Some don’t even have proper yards, just simple wicker fences.’
However, she recalled what her maternal uncle had told her. Leng Yuan’s maternal uncle was a high-ranking official who was about to return. There was no harm in getting on good terms with Leng Yuan, so she held her tongue.
This couple walking down the path was none other than Leng Yuan’s paternal aunt and uncle-in-law.
His aunt’s name was Leng Shuyue, which was considered the prettiest name in the village. His grandfather himself had chosen it.
His uncle-in-law’s surname was Ding, and his given name was Jiangchuan.
Ding Jiangchuan walked in front, his brows knitted together and his expression displeased.
"When we get to the wedding, you need to give Leng Yuan a good talking-to. Getting married without saying a word to us."
If the Leng Family hadn’t told them, they would have had no idea that Leng Yuan was getting married.
And today was the day he was hosting the celebration, no less.
After the couple found out, they had hastily taken the day off work yesterday and set out first thing this morning.
